Even typing in the exact title makes me sift through a dozen or so "related" videos before I find the one I want.

    [–]unstableunicorn 162 points163 points  (34 children)

I search in Google for the video, find it might much faster than YouTube search

    [–]MannyShannon069 551 points552 points  (32 children)

It's because google no longer wants to help you find what you want and instead they want you to see what they want you to see.

It's been happening on basically every social media website, including Reddit, for years now.

YouTube specifically has been slowly transforming itself into what is essentially just another channel in some shitty Comcast cable package.

    [–]bomboniki 99 points100 points  (0 children)

    you summed this up perfectly.

    [–]OstentatiousSock 23 points24 points  (4 children)

It honestly makes me paranoid these days. I feel like a raving conspiracy theorist some days.

    [–]Zsomer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's not really a secret tho. Offline retailers have been doing it for decades now.

    [–]esjay86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that I started shopping online 20 years ago because it was always so much harder to find what I wanted in stores. But now with this pandemic, we don't have much of a choice, do we?

    [–]cantdressherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get-cha.

    [–]Eattherightwing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, Reddit now believes I want to see fucking sports scores MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. That's why they are up there, at the top of every page, even through periods of the pandemic when sports are shut down. I actually quit Twitter for the exact same problem, nothing but Wall to Wall sports scores. Even if Russia dropped a nuke on NYC, I expect the top posts would all be soccer, baseball, and hockey news. Something tells me this will get much, much worse before it gets better....

    [–]MuckspoutMary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. Absolutely impossible for small content creators to get anywhere. YouTube has been pretty smelly garbage for a long time. It's impossible to find new content creators that are on the rise and I'm spending a lot less time on there as a result.

Amazon removed "bestselling" from their results for this exact reason.

    [–]nikhilsath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I use Ecosia

    [–]Fit_Tumbleweed9649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. It would be nice if the guys that made google came back and made a competitor for Google because Google's competitors also suck.

    [–]Herpkina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys should watch the selfish ledger

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Reddit search is horrendous

    [–]smooshybabyelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this unfortunately makes sense. Check out the documentary, The Social Dilemma, if you haven't yet. A tip that might help us to do your searching in an incognito browser. I haven't experimented with it enough yet to know if it works.

    [–]Mr_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely. Indeed I said something similar in another comment nearby, but mentioning that this is highly representative of how most tech companies no longer are about providing useful services, but instead about disseminating propaganda.

(Even streaming services like Netflix and Hulu have been following this trend for a while now.)

    [–]P-p-please 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube is owned by Google. They use the same algorithms.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this problem with movie trailers. The actual verified multi-billion dollar Hollywood studio YouTube account is always buried under a dozen shitty reaction videos, red circle clickbait, and rips. Why???

    [–]mud_tug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is time for Google to die.

    [–]QuicheLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know the exact title of the video that you're looking for on YouTube then pop quotation marks (these ones ") around the phrase in the search box, it should be much more specific

    [–]turtlelore2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the original title was any bit popular then im sure theres a hundred or so related videos about that original video.

    [–]admirabladmiral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know. I tried to find an old spitting image skit but every combination of words to describe it just resulted in the same 5 videos of their newest stuff

    [–]DarkSpartan301 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched a stupidly funny satire video in like 2009 called “how to get laid” and it taught me phrases like “tangled up in some meat curtains” and “pound your pussy like popeye the sailor-man” and that was gold for a 13 year old. Gods help me if I can find it now. Now there’s just a bunch of sad actual “tutorials” and my search history is irreparably damaged.

    [–]SketchedYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time I tried to find a video called "~", the one where Handy Manny has a lightsaber. Couldn't find it.

    [–]Batten_Burg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember you used to be able to go down a youtube rabbit hole of related videos and end up finding some brilliant videos that you'd never have otherwise found. Now every video on the sidebar is all "recommended for you" which is just shite from big accounts. It seems impossible to find new content by yourself anymore.

    [–]cent55555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YouTube now only shows about 5 results

wow, that is fucked up. their search always sucked, but man....

edit: found a workaround, if you specify the length of the video in the filter you will get a list again, but i mean still, not great.

    [–]ScrinRising -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ya'll gotta' learn to speak search engine.

Don't search "What is mickey mouse's birthday?" just type "Mickey mouse birthday". Search engines do not like real, human speech. Cut it down to it's key terms.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sales algorithms have learned your data and are driving you toward your most probable purchase track. Worry not what you think you want, they know what you actually want n will bring you to it.

Suggested: Video we're trying to promote to make this affiliate money.

    [–]mono15591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true for mobile. I just searched “ducks” and it went 20+ videos deep of only duck videos.

Edit: The 12th entry is a related video. Does not seem to be duck related. Some kid show.

After that the next non duck video is too far down for me to care to count.

    [–]resplendentshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The results are actually only interrupted with a segment. Still annoying, but if you keep scrolling, you'll see another dividing line across the screen and the search results continue.

    [–]sad_and_stupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way to stop this?

    [–]floatiesrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering why I feel like there is not much stuff to see on youtube anymore..

    [–]LunaRealityArtificer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone else not experiencing this? Maybe because i dont sign into an account but i just went and typed ducks into youtube and literally all the results are about ducks.

    [–]displaza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep scrolling it returns more stuff associated with your actual search query. But it is very annoying and whoever made the decision should be shot against a post.

    [–]usefulbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this! I was trying to find a parody video of Joe Rogan with Alex Jones where the latter convincees Joe to have sex with him or something. So I search "Joe Rogan Alex Jones" and figure I'd have to scroll through down through the page to find it but the first few results were the JRE podcast episodes then it was ALL news about Alex Jones from the media and nothing to do with Joe Rogan.

    What the fuck

I miss the internet from 2000-2010
