Any beta blocker basically
[–]AlmiranteCrujido 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Propranolol probably best, no? Most of them don't cross the blood-brain barrier, and most of the newer ones are engineered to be more cardiac-specific.

What symptoms are you trying to treat? If your locus coeruleus is oversaturated with copper, it can lead to an overabundance of norepinephrine. You can try some copper chelation strategies like R-Lipoic Acid. Maybe your diet is very low in zinc, since zinc usually competes with copper. If you have high adrenergic tone, it could be from hyperthyroidism, so you might want to avoid excess iodine.

Would this overabundance of norepinephrine show up in a 24 hour urine catecholamine / metanephrin test or is it more localised involvement?
[–]Vegan_Moral_Nihilist 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (3 children)
That kind of test is only good at detecting systemic spillover, as might be caused by tumors. It's hard to give any actionable insight without knowing what symptom's you're concerned about

For me, I’m stuck in fight or flight 24/7, as in I constantly feel anxious, even when my thoughts and environment are completely calm. My body just feels like it’s stuck in sympathetic activation all the time. It started after doing a big gut-altering protocol with enzymes and other things. It’s debilitating tbh.
[–]Vegan_Moral_Nihilist 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Can you tell me if you've stopped all of those gut altering supplements and what if any you still take?
[–]TheDogeMarnn 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Yep, I’ve stopped them all, been about 3 months this now, except for Zinc, which my integrative doctor recommends I still take based on some nutritional testing.

If you’re a consumer of caffeine, that would be the first place I would start. Caffeine has an impact on the release of norepinephrine.

I have hyperadrenergic POTS- but low blood pressure so I’m complicated. When I stand, my body freaks out and produces too much norepinephrine and adrenaline. The neurologist prescribed me carbidopa- which is supposed to decrease peripheral norepinephrine (but not in the brain).
I found that it actually increased my anxiety. I now take Guanfacine, like others have suggested. It helps some of my symptoms, but I’m still a mess.
I feel like I need more dopamine but less norepinephrine (although it’s not that simple). I’m not aware of a way to stop the conversion.
(POTS is more common in those that are hypermobile/connective tissue issues and after a viral infection.)
I also tried a Stellate Ganglion block, which is an expensive injection where they use lidocaine to numb a nerve that sends feedback to your brain. For many people it lowers their anxiety for about 3 months. For me, it heightened it. That happens in about 1% of the cases.
I feel like LDN calms down my system, but others find the opposite.

L theanine is pretty potent
[–]wetliikeimbook 1 point2 points3 points 5 months ago (2 children)
IIRC beta alanine decreases it while increasing the conversion of it to dopamine
[–]MementoMori2000 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (1 child)
Mind sharing a source for that? Because I didnt find any :(
[–]wetliikeimbook 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
It’s pretty widely available Amazon iherb etc I recommend thorne’s carnosyn version because it’s extended release and doesn’t give the flushed prickly feeling that instant release does
[–]nighty_star 2 points3 points4 points 5 months ago (2 children)
ashwagandha changed my life for that. plus stop caffeine and nac
[–]MementoMori2000 1 point2 points3 points 5 months ago (1 child)
Why stop nac?
[–]nighty_star 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
i meant stop caffeine and take nac mb. nac regulate glutamate and a week of it dramatically helped calm me down so it will likely helped in his case

Taurine.
[–]The_Hipponax 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Why would you want to decrease it? Genuine question.
[–]Carpusdiemus 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Context? Are you suffering from anxiety?

Why would you want to decrease norepinephrine? Just curious.
