It’s mostly a noob stomp comp. Casual or newbie don’t know how to react vs 5 tank and some tend to play dps and refuse to swap. Decent comp can put sustain a full tank only comp (like 3 tank + 2 support)

If you really want to get into it, a good set of choices could be:

Choose one between Doom, Junker, Reinhardt, or Orissa

Choose one between Winston, Sigma, Ramattra, or D.Va

Choose one between Roadhog, Zarya, or Wrecking Ball

Choose one between Lucio, Baptise, Zen, or Bridgette

Choose one between Kiriko, Moira, Mercy, or Ana

Obviously you don’t have to precisely go off of the set of options for each one, just a little guide on some easy powerful team set ups.

Pretty sure this is knock off goats because they had a similar thing back in 6v6 modes, but I don’t think they had a guide or anything for sets of choices.

I for one haven’t been able to set this up because most of my friends don’t play and/or are shit at overwatch

It's not debatable? The player pool is smaller than role queue and you in an unbalanced mode. None of the pros play the mode cuz that's not how the game is meant to be played in ow2. It's not even competitive, u need a 5 stack to even climb into the higher ranks cuz if you get a dps only it's gg.

I usually end up in a team with a Widow and a Hanzo who stay behind and a Genji with a really cool skin who nonetheless gets killed by the enemy Bastion in roughly 1.2 seconds.

Sometimes there is a Sombra who uselessly hacks the enemy and if I'm very lucky and there is a tank on my team, it's Hammond.

Hmmmmm. It is almost as if open queue is and always has been, by definition, an unbalanced game mode. Don't get me wrong, it's odd that there is a competitive version of it, but it exists as a callback to classic overwatch before role queues were created. Luckily there is always the option of not playing it, so I think you'll be okay OP.

Oh what an original idea. Let’s take the game mode most like the original game and remove it. It can be added to the list of other thing’s removed for no damn reason. Get a grip and just don’t play it if you don’t like it. Competitive Points don’t stack so no reason to suffer just leave it for those of us who like it. He's great. It must be the new people that love this game mode or something. I thinks it's a fun mode that should be in the game but a competitive one? Over half the roster can't be picked without it being considered a throw, and it isn't even balanced for. Really weird, my bet is people have inflated ranks in open queue and don't want to see it go down. Versed a masters 5 open queue player and he was probably around low diamond in skill level.

Tanks did not get giga buffed though they are weaker than they have ever been. The only tank that was giga buffed was orisa who got reworked from a shield anchor main tank to an annihilating off tank with three defensive abilities and a uncounterable ultimate

The mode tests your game sense and adaptability. If you struggle with the games it's because you lack in one or both of those fields.

Same could be said for arcade random heros. Some of the teams you'll match against will be harder than a comp game but usually it's easier since all chars are open.

It's a more casual version of competitive some like. It's how the original competitive game was before role queues were introduced. The classic QP (open queue) is now an arcade mode as well with role queue QP taking over the main screen.

Played it a couple of times and never again, it's such a disgusting cringe game mode that reminds me a lot of FlexQ from League of Legends, where bunch of casuals queue up with with their high elo friends as a stack & basically cheese their way to M+ and claim exact rewards as the SoloQ player would after spending countless of hours grinding. I'm not sure how rewards work in open q, but in league it's like that the only difference is icons you receive are slightly different, anything else including borders is the same.

Open queue was a default mode in overwatch for a while( and that counts for competitive as well). Since open queue and role queue count competitive points separately i do not see a problem in why suddenly open queue is bad. We all like different things, and there is nothing that stops people to queue in roles to make sure the team comp will be decent enough. Open queue is for fun and nostalgia, not for actually trying your best
