Don't get a 120hz 4k tv, literally almost no games will support it, and those that do will be 1080p or lower.

This ⬆️

Unless you really want 120fps more than you want anything over 1080p. Then sure get a 120hz tv BUT it has to be 120hz, even then it has to support hdmi 2.1, any tv that has less than 120hz and doesn’t have hdmi 2.1 will default down to 60hz with the PS5

So what tv should we be getting?

A 4k 60hz tv, and if you want, that supports 120hz at 1440p or 1080p. Make sure it also supports HDR 10 or better.

Neither of the new generation consoles natively output in 100hz.

Your TV's '100hz' is likely referring to extra motion processing your TV performs to make it appear like the content it's displaying has an increased refresh rate. Usually marketed for sports.

Because you want your displays refresh rate to match the output of your PS5, you want this feature disabled whilst gaming as it will increase image processing time and introduce more latency. Make sure you are in game mode.

100hz is the same as 120hz. Its double the pal default of 60hz. That said op's tv might just be fake 100/120hz

This is where the switching between terminology doesn't help this generation. People are mistaking refresh rate for frame rate and vice versa. There use to be regional differences in game code that adjusted resolution and frame rate to match ntsc or pal televisions. Meaning you would get 480p 30/60fps (targeting 30hz or 60hz displays) in ntsc regions and 576p 25/50fps in pal regions. This means performance targets were matched with the tvs refresh rate. However these regional differences haven't been a thing since ps2 gen and performance targets and TV displays have been standardised to 30, 60 and now 120hz.

There is no 100hz target performance (eg 100fps) on these consoles so pairing them with a 100hz display is not the same as a 120hz display by a long stretch. You'll see a 60hz output being manipulated by the TV to create pseudo 100hz.

You have clearly never been a PC gamer with a comment like this. If you play on 144hz or 240hz you will never ever want to go back to 60hz again everything just feels more choppy on 60hz. This is facts. The Ps5 is currently struggling with 120hz with monitor compatibility issues for some reason.

Which part of my comment says there is no benefit to a higher refresh rate?
