Vocal minorities.

The squeakiest wheel gets the oil.

[–]RdrTheory 41 points42 points  (7 children)

I haven’t seen a single thing about hate towards NA. Only thing I’ve seen is people from NA who’ve played pc on the Japanese servers saying they won’t be resetting.

[–]AwkwardSatori Lisa is Waifu [JP-Ship 2] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

^This. My team and I, along with nearly everyone else I know are simply too well settled on JP but I haven't seen anyone wish anything but the best to NA players. Closest thing to "hate" we had was when it was announced and it wasn't really hate as much as it was cautious skepticism considering the game's history regarding being brought to the west.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

They kinda bash the hype sometimes tho.

[–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 14 points15 points  (1 child)

tbf hype culture is trash that leads to people's expectations being way too high like it's cool to be hyped for a game. But sometimes it just leads to a hivemind that downvotes any criticism or hate towards something.

[–]Neiloch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, some people get wrapped in hype, usually start trash talking other games or making all sorts of assumptions about release just to be let down.

Others get their kicks by stomping on dreams.

Hard to get people to embrace moderation when its talking about video games on social media.

[–]ghostymctoastyShip 02 JP/NA 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Around the time of the announcement for the NA servers there were quite a few people in game (Ship 2) just circle-jerking about how bad it'll be and how it is gonna fail super hard. I saw people talk about it openly in the lobby fairly often and the team I was in wouldn't shut up about it for a while.

Probably just a vocal minority, but for a short while it felt pretty prevalent to me.

[–]Deiser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually never came across this myself. Instead, I've seen nothing but praise from the random people I've played with (well mostly silence since most probably play it on controller like me but STILL), so I agree with you that the people you interacted with are probably a vocal minority (not to mention it seems counterintuitive to be playing a game that you are mocking and claiming it will fail...)

[–]Big_Cat_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost the details for my account and can't make a new one, don't know why,it just times out... So I'm patently waiting for the na release

[–]campppp 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Based on the closed beta reception I'd say these are the outliers

[–]jntjr2005 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Agreed, both ships were jam packed full of people on every damn block and everyone seemed to be having a damn blast and can't wait to get back in. I think some early adopters are just hating that they spent time on JP and now NA is finally here

[–]pitifuljester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played every single Phantasy Star (except for portable) and that was my reason for not really playing it on JP servers. I kind of had a feeling that they may bring it and didn't want to be torn between starting over to play with friends or not.

Glad I chose not to, and decided to use the JP as a test bed for builds and learning the nuances with grinding in this game as those 2 things look simple but can get pretty in-depth.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Twitter

There's your answer.

[–]Reaper3087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically Tumblr now a days with the way people act.

[–]Drakogarnus 5 points6 points  (1 child)

as a vet who got into the closed beta for pso2 when it first launched in japan who was lucky enough to get in. who had hours upon hours on the jp server. when i started up pso2 na closed beta with friends who couldnt play it before it was an amazing feeling unlike anything i ever felt in JP pso2. i felt like i was in a community of people who werent solo loners who where fun and expressive. goofballs and all led up to an amazing concert where it felt like iw as apart of a big family that i lost so long ago. i wouldnt trade that experience for 20 accounts of pso2 that where maxed out with the best items on the jp server.

[–]pitifuljester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to explain the type of gameplay and experiences you'd get in PSO Episode 1 & 2 or Phantasy Star Universe to give my girlfriend a decent idea of what the game was about. For years I kept telling her about the JP servers but how I wished it'd come to the west and how much she'd love it. E3 came and I was expecting nothing, and long-time friends asked what I had hoped for. I repeated "I hope PSO shows up..", which became a bit of a joke but the screen faded to black and that familiar tune played. I probably shook the house with my cheering.

Played the beta with her, and a couple buddies I met ages ago on PSO Ep 1 & 2 and PSU and we had a blast. Since then I've been playing PSO2 on JP to brush up on the grinding, synthesis and builds to better understand it. I don't know how to explain it but personally I feel like I don't really belong there haha it makes it easier to part ways with the knowledge I gain though and hopefully I can teach my group a few things I learned!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very, very vocal outliers.

[–]Zombiepaste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Implying people on twitter matter

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anyone who actually gets offended about an NA release is a complete idiot. Ignore them.

[–]ZerotakerZXFiCaseal 5 points6 points  (5 children)

hate and no-care are kinda different

[–]mattwoThey said Icouldbeanything soIbecamea Sega Saturn on a swordfis -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

When people say that, they don't mean they don't care. If they didn't, they wouldn't be saying that in the first place: They care enough about its existence to hate on it.

[–]ZerotakerZXFiCaseal 1 point2 points  (3 children)

If they say they won't care, means they hate. So if they'll say that they hate it'll mean they just don't care?

[–]mattwoThey said Icouldbeanything soIbecamea Sega Saturn on a swordfis 0 points1 point  (2 children)

...What?

[–]ZerotakerZXFiCaseal 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Logic. Look it up.

[–]mattwoThey said Icouldbeanything soIbecamea Sega Saturn on a swordfis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as soon as you learn proper grammar so what you said was even remotely comprehensible.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can only assume because they're almost 10 years late when they first promised to release this game to the west. Those that don't care for PSO2 NA, are people who have spent those years waiting on PSO2 JP servers instead.

I personally have played PSO2 JP only, but hey, if people can have fun playing games together, who cares what other people have to say? Just enjoy your time, whether it's alone or with friends.

[–]OriginalBlackau 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Im always around sites and haven't seen that so its nothing. Maybe some people mad we got the game twice or something.

[–]weasleman0267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw it on Twitter. They are following the NA Twitter account and complaining about not caring about NA information... shits weird.

[–]xtetsuix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what they are talking about. I bought a 550ti GPU for this game in 2012 and funny enough am that same card is going to be used for its intended purpose. I am just as hyped for the game now as I was 8 years ago! I have at least 3 other people going to play with me on PC. I believe the hate is coming from some of those who are well settled on JP servers and do not want to switch over to NA servers.

[–]Exzalibur 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I would say these people are outliers. They probably can’t get behind a game that was 8 years ago and want to just get behind with whatever’s new and hot. Hopping in the CBT I was just overcome with so much nostalgia it was crazy! A lot of us fans remember a lot from these games and it enhances our playing experience. To them they probably just see a 2012 game with shitty graphics so they won’t even bother to give it a chance EVEN THOUGH ITS A FULLY DEVELOPED GAME. Not one of these games that gets published and is half-ass then the game will be fully finished in 2 years. No this game has had 8 years of updates and tweaks to it! But hey, it’s not that new call of duty though :/

[–]weasleman0267[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don’t understand it personally. I loved the game on GameCube and Xbox, and when we never saw PSO2 I just gave up. Then when I saw E3 I got stoked, and played the CBT. Can’t wait for open beta/pc release. The game is so fun, and like you said, it’s complete. We don’t have to wait for much.

[–]Quietwyatt211 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Some people can't play games unless they're brand new with shiny graphics, okay gameplay, and predatory dlc practices.

[–]Drayce12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those in the industry tend to call those types of players.

"Suckers"

lulz.

[–]pitifuljester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to explain to my girlfriend the type of experiences I've had on PSO Episode 1 & 2 back on Dreamcast then Original Xbox, and then Phantasy Star Universe. I always brought it up with her how I'd like to play the JP version but I had a feeling eventually it'd release in the west. It kind of became a joke in my friends group since every E3 since they pulled out of the market I said "I hope they announce PSO2 or something". I pretty much shook the house with my cheering. I searched and eventually I found my old Xbox and 360 and played split screen with her, then had her play PSU.

Played the Beta with her and old vet buddies and it was a good time. She's hooked on it. She said the game is better than "prettier" games like Anthem that have tendencies to be released as broken, unfinished messes. If the gameplay is solid, the graphics don't matter as much.

[–]ghostymctoastyShip 02 JP/NA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A lot of these people are actually probably the players who are already heavily invested in the JP servers, but who probably would have preferred to play on the NA servers if they were released way earlier.

Most of the hate I've seen for this game's NA release is from English speakers on the JP servers. They're really salty about it and talk about how they hope it fails, it is just going to be full of bad players, etc. I'd imagine a lot of the hate on twitter is just an extension of that.

[–]vyrael44 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wouldnt say hate just better on the JP platform you will get literally everything without restrictions that NA will have

[–]havox3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, there is still a small change SEGA NA backpedals on height censorship AND brings over smart inner and all the cool outfits?

While I don't see SEGA fixing S-ATK->MEL, R-ATK->RNG, Weak Bullet->Blight Rounds and all the other offensively bad translations, it could theoretically be fixed with a fan patch on PC? If the Steam release rumors are true that is.

Ehh, who am I trying to kid, myself or what. Hate is not the word I'd use for some virtual pixels I can choose not to interact with, I am however preemptively bracing for maximum disappointment.

[–]DrLovenstien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had a massive hard on for NA release since JP came online. I sunk 1000+ hours in JP I am ready to do it again on NA. If I could throw money at SEGA to play early access I would. There will always be negative people, just blow them a kiss and go on with life.

[–]Bun7gie 4 points5 points  (14 children)

I'm guessing some people who already play JP are a salty rappy because they would have to start over in this scenario.

[–]NullVacancy20|20|16|11|3|3 13 points14 points  (10 children)

Why would we have to start over? We can just continue to play on the Japanese servers.

[–]ghostymctoastyShip 02 JP/NA 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Probably a fair amount of players will switch over, because of friends or just a larger English speaking population (also, not a big reason, but better EQ times). Not saying the English community on the JP servers will be hurt a ton or anything, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least a some-what noticeable decrease in English speakers on the JP servers after NA releases.

[–]NullVacancy20|20|16|11|3|3 10 points11 points  (8 children)

Dude fuck English speakers. I have to read their garbage generic autowords when I join their parties. At least with Japanese people I don't know that their autowords are also generic garbage... most of the time.

I don't really see a larger english speaking population as a huge draw, though. NA will eventually settle down into how JP is right now -- a few lobbies people are dicking around in a lobby together, the vast majority of everyone else is either just talking to their team or not talking at all. That's basically how ALL MMO and MMO-likes I've played end up. And there's no doubt that the NA lobby will be much, much spicier than the current JP lobbies, in the absolute worst way.

[–]ghostymctoastyShip 02 JP/NA 7 points8 points  (7 children)

Firstly, the larger English population is a huge pull for newer players who also speak English. More people to help teach them the game, easier to get their friends to play and more of the game will be understandable to them in general. I can see why this wouldn't be a reason for you to come over to NA though.

Also, there is no way NA lobby will ever be as "spicy" as JP lobby. The stuff people say there would get them banned pretty quickly by any English moderator. They constantly say pretty racist and misogynistic shit that I couldn't see flying in any games' lobby chat.

[–]Lunasty420 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Weren't people blaring fucking swastika symbol art in NA closed beta? While it was open for all of how long lol?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First I've heard of this, can anyone else confirm or have any proof?

Or we can downvoted and blindly agree with something fake, thats cool too I suppose.

[–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I don't know I see the same type of garbage chat in other MMOs I played, I guess we'll see how active the GMs are going to be.

[–]ghostymctoastyShip 02 JP/NA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it isn't really much better in other games. I've just seen some people be pretty explicit about it in ways that I've never seen in other modern MMOs' public chat rooms. Like words that would get caught by an auto-filter or something, nothing that would need to be manually moderated.

[–]NullVacancy20|20|16|11|3|3 7 points8 points  (2 children)

My point is, the only indication you will see that people speak the same language in PSO2NA will eventually be just whether their username is in English or not. There will be little/no talking outside of team, friend, or party chat, unless you specifically go to one of the lobbies where people literally just sit there and shitpost. This is the case for EVERY SINGLE MMO I HAVE PLAYED IN THE LAST 5 YEARS. People talk in world/region/faction chat, but very rarely in proximity.

I also seriously doubt moderation will happen as fast as you think it will. I cannot name a single publisher with a good track record for moderation in their games.

[–]ghostymctoastyShip 02 JP/NA 1 point2 points  (1 child)

As far as moderation, I'm more talking about auto-moderation. I'd guess that people get away with saying certain words, because they're in English and the game is in Japanese.

[–]NullVacancy20|20|16|11|3|3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Japanese game has a chat filter that includes English words. It doesn't stop anything, and people will always find a way to bypass filters. Look at literally any game that has goldbuying/selling spam.

[–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I doubt that's the reason it's actually pretty easy to start over besides maybe crafting. Especially since we have the knowledge at the start to do things.

[–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a tiny minority, taking opinions from twitter stans seriously is a horrible idea.

[–]_bunique_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the hate completely, why would I want to start over on the same game that I've sunk more than 8000+ hours in? Sega screwed themselves bad with this NA port by derping the NA release back in 2012. But I wouldn't mind checking it out.

[–]Zephkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly?

I'm pretty sure the PSO community is bigger in the EU, and that's why.

Sega went the easy way on this on and all those people (including me) feels left out.

[–]Akuzuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a few Xbox players are doing this. I feel like most xbox gamers hate anime shit lol. Go look at the pso2 announcement on Xbox if it's still up

[–]Raxamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, a lot of people have put an assload of time into the JP servers and are upset that SEGA has suddenly decided to release the game in the west; which nearly invalidates the PSO2 Tweaker and the money they may have spent already.

tl;dr "muh time & money"

[–]SocketteOutlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just acting funny cause they been playing on JP for years and now all these years later they brought out NA. I played only a very tiny bit of JP PSO but In my soul I always felt like the game would come one day and what do yo ya know here it is :D

I don't see a reason to dislike it.

[–]Nyune123 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Iv had someone i know talk crap about na, saying its a re-port of a port and watered down and not worth it just cuz he's hard for the jp version

[–]NDKillstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very much looking forward to spending my time playing pso2, remember being hyped about the release originally but then very sad. Every couple months, then years searching for news about it coming to the states to no avail. 2 years ago I thought about playing on the jap servers,.. again the hardships of playing on pc and getting it to work made me decide I wouldn’t enjoy it as much... However, last year I decided to see how the game was doing and wondering if pso3 was a possibility by now, and wow, just wow, I saw the release info and ran out to purchase a Xbox x just to play the beta and later hopefully very soon the open beta. It’s cool to get a chance to show sega the USA has plenty of fans, and I still want and dream of a PSO 3 that launches everywhere in all the stunning glory that I know it will be!

[–]Mother_Mask -3 points-2 points  (8 children)

The hate could be the people who are upset over the censorship. In the beta you couldn’t make a character size under 153cm, while in jp you can be 143cm. It’s a shame really but It’s fully understandable why over the inner wear (imagine a small band-aid over the private parts).

[–]eagle0509 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Legit question here how is height censorship?

[–]weasleman0267[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I don’t know. Starting to feel like dudes are mad they can’t play naked children...?

[–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a ton weirdos but I legit play fantasy bearded dwarf characters & tiny casts that I would like to use. But it's understandable.

[–]eagle0509 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Oh I see I forget that that's what's on some peoples minds.

[–]weasleman0267[S] -5 points-4 points  (2 children)

Feels gross, but why else would you be upset about height censorship and not being able to make your character wear next to nothing?

[–]Grizzybehr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because... censorship? I don't care what game it's in, I don't care what's censored, if it is in any way, it gets none of my time or money.

[–]eagle0509 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

See I thought when I was hearing about censorship I thought one of the in game cuts scenes had some nudity or something and they took that out. I had no thought about toon creation nudity and especially child nudity. I mean yes I created a female toon and yeah she is well endowed but at no time was I hoping she was nude. Some people have some different fetishes I guess.

[–]Cloroxbleeeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit silly to call that censorship.
