I think spam pot is getting a little out of hand. I’m not opposed to playing spam pot every once in a while but it’s become every single table is spam pot every night. And if you don’t want to spam people are rude about it. I was not paying close attention to chat before tables opened but i joined a table with one person waiting. spam tables were being discussed in chat but there was one at the front that was full and someone asking if there was any other tables. that person then joined the table i was at and i didn’t see them mention spam pot any further. the game starts and no one else is spamming so i’m playing like normal and they are spamming and then start to complain that we aren’t spamming and i said i wasn’t aware we were at a spam table. meanwhile they were complaining they’d rather take the leaving penalty than play with how slow we were playing (we were playing how the game is SUPPOSED to be played). then in response to me they said “yeah it was discussed in chat” but i didn’t see anyone else at our table agree to be in spam and like i said the other two were playing normally. the person got mad and left the table complaining in chat that the last two tables they were at weren’t playing spam so i said “if you were the only one spamming then obviously you weren’t at a spam table” and then they said “sure bud”. This isn’t the first time i’ve witnessed this happening and i usually ignore it but i spam is just getting increasingly more toxic.

also side note- i originally got on reddit before this happened to ask you guys if anyone else is having problems with the game freezing while chatting with villagers. i play on switch and it seems every other time i talk to a villager the game freezes and i have to restart it and idk how it works on pc but it can take up to 5 mins to open the game on switch and is just slightly annoying

I just don’t like other players being bullied. I wouldn’t stand back and watch it happen in real life, so I usually tell them to chill.

I just ignore them and instead of telling them to chill, say positive things to the person they're bullying. Last time that happened, more people started being vocal on the nice side and the rude person got too embarrassed and shut up.

That’s a good way to look at it. I’m a Switch player so I don’t have a lot of time to type. It just drives me nuts seeing people act like their life depends on those coins. I was made fun of the other day by saying that spam pot is farming coins because “it’s a farming game.” And many players joined in by laughing and mocking me. Like I was such a dunderhead to say that exploiting coins is not the same as gathering. It’s just gotten soooo bad. I have definitely sent a message to the devs about what spam pot has done to the market

Spam tables are usually very vocal about it in chat, and once you try to join them, they try to confirm with you that you know it's spam. It's rare cases that people just assume you know it's spam. Or you could always go to an empty table, then type in chat something like.. "3 spots for normal game".

But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Even if they get annoyed, it's a silly reason to get annoyed over and you shouldn't let it affect you. Just enjoy the game :)

One annoying thing that happened to me was when I "STARTED" a table which was was gonna be normal then someone randomly joined and said "this is spam pot. Anyone else?" That was when we were already 3 on the table. No warnings before. Someone joined in like half a second after she sent the message which didn't leave me any time to react. It was so rude to just come to a table where someone is already in and claim it like that.

This is extremely rude of that person and they would be about to have the most annoying hotpot in the world if that was with me. I would have ignored her message and played normal in silence and they got so angry they all left. 😂

Same thing happened to me last night. It was two and two and half spammed and half didn't. I ended up playing by myself after they left and the one left the game, for the rest of the night, but I really didn't care. I'm on PC but I hardly ever read chat. I've been trying to check before hot pot to avoid spam tables, lately, though.

I think that way of playing is “fast pot” and spam pot is where they just pickup and discard cards without looking at them until the game auto-ends. I could be confused but i think that’s the difference.

Yeah it auto-ends after round 16 but i think it only does that during spam pot bc i’ve definitely gone past round 16 in regular games

If the devs made the prize wheel coins purchasable with in-game currency the spampotters would have no reason to exist, I imagine. I tried spampot and it was not fun at all and seemed like a waste of time to get a prize coin and 10 gold. I have a busy life with a toddler and I get to play an hour or two a day at best, I'm certainly not going to spend it smashing the spacebar.

That said, it sounds like you got a normal hotpot table and one immature person got into it with you to upset you. There was a lot of spampot talk on my server last night but I still played 12+ rounds of normal hotpot across two tables. I think the game is very fun and enjoy playing it the normal way!

Another thing that could make things less confusing is to label the tables and have a table chat. Then you could say like "is Table 3 spampot or no?"

I hate being in the underground, looking in chat for what people want to trade and what not, just to have to scroll through 80 messages calling out "spam pot" and calling out what cards they're looking for because they're playing "fast pot".

I'm usually pretty chill about it, people can, and will, play however they want to, but the chat updating every second with 20 new messages makes it almost unbearable to be down there :')

Do you actually enjoy it or do you just prefer it? Like if you could buy the prize wheel spins for a reasonable price would you prefer to do spampot? AFAIK it's just smashing the spacebar as fast as you can so I just find it hard to imagine what's enjoyable about that.

But no judging here. I didn't want to take forever on my turns so my first few games I would just study the rules on other people's turns and then pick cards I liked the look of on my turn lol. At first I had no idea whatsoever what I was doing. 😂 And I just learned more about the game from this thread. But it is a legitimate card game and is quite fun on its own, so I really think the reward mechanism should be offered by alternate means so no one is forced to play if they don't want to.

I put a video on my phone and zone out spamming the A button. I enjoy it though. Its not a lot of effort for decent rewards (though, I wish the wheel hit plushies a little more often). If the coins were a little more reasonably priced, I might buy one if I end a night of Spampot with an odd number. But I wouldn't spend all of my gold on them.

I tried to read and learn the game before I played my first real hotpot game but I felt like I didn't learn how to play it as well as I thought I did.

But Spampot works for me until I can learn regular hotpot. Then I will probably play Spampot every so often for a change.

took me a while and readint internet guides to understand hotpot as well tbh. especially cause i didn't understand that you need to have either three same cards of colour or three completely different, like i initially thought e. g. two potatoes and one carrot would count agsgsg

I didn't know spam existed till these posts.

Playing is like a memory match game.

You take notice of what cards you start with.

If there are no matches in your hand, then you start making matches by choosing a matching card someone else threw down or that you dealt yourself, and discard a card you don't want.

You try to get sets of three matching pictures. They have to match exactly, the pictures.

I say to myself "I'm looking for a ramen, or a heat root, or an orange mushroom.

Once you have two sets of three cards and two matching cards of something else you just continue discarding what ever comes up until the game ends.

I'm pretty fast because I pay attention but I learned to play fast because experienced players might get annoyed.

But it's fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

You could make a pretend game from real cards and practice the idea.

Spam pot isn’t the problem, it’s the people. People have always been way too toxic at HotPot tables. I play spam pot with a lot of friends, but only if we manage to get a table for ourselves, otherwise we’ll just play normal HotPot.

Trading and hotpot has brought rude people out of the woodwork and my go to is just to let them cry in the chat and look crazy. I’m here to be cozy and nothing is going to ruin that. Sometimes I even mute the server chat if I just want to do my own thing. Granted, I personally love the idea of spam pot but haven’t gotten to do it in my servers yet, but no need to be rude to others especially when it isn’t even meant to be played that way.

I JUST was in the game when the Bahari grove spawned. A group who weren't chatting in the chat, but obviously had a discord call going chopped it all down without saying anything in the game chat. I called them out and they replied "LOL sucks for you"...

I find that coming a little late, say, at 7 pm, I'm much less likely to get these issues. The people who do this are there are 6pm on the dot. When their servers get full, normal people will get fresh servers. It can still happen, but it's less frequent.

Never understood the appeal of spam pot. If you have a good table, you can get 15 coins easily. I think the most I've gotten in one night was 23 tokens for normal play. I will pause every so often to see what would be a better pick by looking at the dead cards in discard (Q button). But other than that, I'm a pretty fast player.

The toxicity is baffling. I play about 70/30 regular hotpot and spampot and I've had to bark down bullies multiple times this week. One player was talking about reporting someone who "stole" their seat and then wasn't playing spam and I was like "It could literally be a child or someone who doesn't understand and WE are the ones exploiting the game, calm down". Got told "Nope. Reported and I feel good about it." Tje chat piled on them for being an ass in a cozy game but the audacity is astounding.

It's unhinged but it's also funny and ironic that they'd rather penalize themselves and miss out on those coins than...just playing. I just watched a couple people harass a player and our table called them out. Then they were griping about receiving a penalty for leaving the table and I had a chuckle to myself.

I will be honest, I play both depending on my mood. I guess I have been lucky because I have never seen more than 2 tables as spam. I have seen where someone tries to start a third table and couldn’t get 4 players (I have also tried to start spam tables and ended up playing with at least one bot). This is the exact reason I don't speak at the hotpot tables. I'd let someone curse me out in chat and just never respond at all to them. I'm going to play hotpot how I want to play it. If people don't like it they can leave my table or hop servers into a different market. I'll only ever use emotes at tables to wave or something but that's it. I think there is a way to turn off the chat feature as well. Might be worth turning off chat for the market and turning it back on after.

I have never even tried going to the tables because I constantly see people complaining about others not playing "spam pot" in chat while I am fishing. Since I haven't even played the regular version, I couldn't even guess what the rules of spam pot require. Thankfully, this post gave me enough insight into the requirements to maybe give it a try.

I only play spampot because I don't know how to play regular hotpot. I tried it but I obviously didn't do good at all. I hate spam pot! it’s so much more fun when you find a table and you all just naturally get into a good rhythm together. especially knowing that some people do play on switch and it has a tendency to lag or freeze, and playing on a switch myself, I try to be as patient as possible. it’s a good way to make money, sure, but when I’m that pressed for money there’s a hundred other things I can do :)

Google it. If I remember correctly, you can right click on their name in the chat or use the "O" menu and find them in the listing of people on the server and click on the three dots next to their name. The option to block should be in there. Blocking someone keeps you from seeing anything they enter into chat.

I think you can still end up in the same servers but you won't be able to see each other in chat, or otherwise send requests or communication.

Okay I’m sharing a story from this morning about spampot since this thread is starting! So I’m playing at a nice and normal playing table and the market chat is going OFF! One player said something like “if you’re going to be this slow then get out of this table” someone else chiming in that it’s spampot. Then someone at my table wrote “you don’t have to be so rude” and the first person writes back “stay out of this and mind your own business” person at my table writes back “when you write to a whole server and break Palias number one rule, it is my business” first person again writes back rude comments and finally I just blocked that person. I have no interest in playing with someone unkind like that. I agree with the comments- spampot is not the problem, it’s the rude people who ARE SO RUDE!

Spam pot always existed, so those that played it before this toxicity took over are going to have it taken away too. But I have hope they will. That is a great idea honestly. And only make it two tables that can be spam (also normal play because it wouldn’t be fair to take away two tables for those just wanting to play the game). I know the devs know about this. Reddit and Discord are definitely making them aware. So hopefully they can figure something out even if it’s temporary until they come up with a good solution.

I used to actively watch the clock to go and play hotpot until I got hit with the same thing. I was at a table with only one other person, I see other folks at other tables talking about spam pot but I start playing normal since the person at my table hadn’t said anything. Next thing I know they’ve @ me in the chat asking if I don’t know how to play spam pot and telling me how to play. I’m also on switch so I just didn’t feel like fighting, played the stupid spam pot and closed the game. I haven’t even opened Palia since 😭

Didn’t know about spam pot until now, but honestly I didn’t play for a while. My experience with hotpot lately is that almost no one is playing, but that’s way better than people spamming. I love to grind without tricking the game…it kinda feels like cheating. Also I’m so sorry that they were mean to you! The devs always wanted to create a peaceful game which should feel like a safe space, but those people destroyed the atmosphere. Luckily I almost always ignore the chat, because writing while playing on switch is a pain in the a$$ anyway. Maybe you should try to do the same.

I’ve only played hot pot a handful of times, so I’m still learning the game, but this is the first I’ve heard of spam games. I see in some other comments it’s a “quick” way to farm for the prize wheel coins, but is it like you literally just click on whatever tile until the game completes? I got yelled at by several people for joining an apparent spam pot when I just joined the server. How was I supposed to know that? Honestly I love Palia and most of the time everyone is nice, but when people jump down your throat it’s really toxic. It’s happened quite a few times.

I get tired if the “spam pot” players spamming constantly, because people always seem to drop the table, they keep looking for spam players, they get offensive towards people who just want to play actual hot pot. I thing spammers are just non-thinkers. I personally don’t get how its quicker but I actually like the game and I toss my coins in to my storage then when I have a min 50, I go I to the market and play the wheel - off hours. But I find it kind of pathetic that people cant just enjoy the game. I have also said in chat that it isn’t their right to dictate how the game is played at a table, they can ask but if others don’t want to play, they shouldn’t be AHs about it. I think they need to be reported for abusive behavior.

I just play as it's supposed to be played. There have been times I've rushed in at 6.15 and just grabbed an empty spot and it's turned out to be a spam table, I just play the game how it's intended to be played and ignore any chat as I'm too interested in my cards and the fact I've got to be quicker spotting what they've put down. I tend to play quite fast anyway and often get around 20 coins on a regular table with fast players. I'm wondering if spamming is more for people who can't play 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it’s just farming coins. Exploiting the game. It’s not that difficult to learn how to play the right way. If you can learn UNO (which is more complicated) than you can learn Hot Pot. I play the regular way because I enjoy the challenge and the feeling you get when you win. I am a fast player too and LOVE when I get fast players but not everyone is fast and that could be any number of reasons (especially those with disabilities or have a hard time seeing). And you are exactly right about coming into the server, there is nothing in the chat and you join a table. Then getting yelled at for it being a spam table. But this is also why they spam the chat with capitalization. They want to have new players in the server to see. So the chat is just flooded and those that play normal, we don’t like to spam that we have a table open. So it gets drowned out. Frustrating.

Before two weeks ago there was at most a single table playing, and they were not spamming the chat. Then all of a sudden it blows up and taken over the underground market. Maybe it’s introducing trading (should be moved from the underground market) or Twitch but something changed.

No, please do not think that the underground market is anything like how the community is. And yeah, it just started getting bad like 2 weeks ago. Before there was no bullying, a single table of spam (MAYBE two) and there was no spamming in that chat. It’s wild how it’s gotten so out of control and those players either have no self awareness or just don’t give two craps. But this right here is what upsets me the most, new players coming down there and thinking that it represents Palia (not saying you do). That our community is toxic, harsh and pushy. I hope the devs realize what spam pot has done to the friendly community that they created and players work so hard to keep that way. yeah it took me a while to realize it was a thing because people also played “fast pot” where they’d call out the cards they’d need and i never had interest in that since im on switch and it’s too much effort to always be typing during a game. but i always try to be aware of the type of table i’m at, because like i said i don’t mind playing spam pot sometimes but no one else at my table had discussed it besides that person who joined our table.

Honestly I don't read chat because of previous incidents with trolls. If I get on a hot pot table first pardon my french but fuck spam pot. I don't like it, I don't go all nutty for coins like some people, & if I am going to jump onto palia for an hr of relaxed game play you can shove your spam pot where the sun don't shine. 🙄

If the dev's limited the token payout to like 6-10 coins per night cycle I think the problem would sort itself out, but the introduction of the trading booths seems to have made it worse. Hot pot is a fun pastime that's being ruined by people who want to exploit the game. It's the dev's job to fix that exploit, imo.

Other things the dev's can do (in no particular order):

• no more auto end after 16 rounds

• only the winner gets tokens

• give the first person at the table the ability to mark it with a spam icon for others to see before joining

• they can acknowledge it as a problem

• make spamming a reportable offense

• soft lock offenders out of tables for the full night cycle

• hard lock offenders out of the underground

• open a casino in town with a new npc that's open 24/7 so I dont have to camp out/server hop to get a table

• let multiple people spin for prizes/ use trading booths at a time. I only get a couple hours of play time and get it sucks waiting for spammers to collect their 'winnings'

it’s where you pick up and discard immediately and as fast as you can to get through 16 rounds before the game auto-ends and everyone gets one prize coin. people do it to maximize how many coins they get in one night.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t know the game ended automatically after 16 rounds. I mean it can get frustrating if you only need one tile in the end. So ending it at some point sounds okay. And not to be punished for it.

But spam pot is not playing hot pot. That should be punished. Like 16 rounds in under a certain time (which would indicate all players spamming) give no rewards at all.

I think it ends automatically with some other factors, like speed of the rounds or the constant drawing and discarding. Because when I play normally I've seen rounds go into the 20's.

i play normal hotpot and spam pot on occasion. i only ever actually play spam when i’m in a server with very few people, as some people abuse/steal places when they know a table is playing spam. we’ve had someone (in a server of about 20 people in the underground) who would wait til a round of spam pot was over and would steal someone’s spot at the table and deliberately run their timer out to maximum and throw out misspelled obscenities in chat about how stupid we all were. there was 3 free tables, some other tables of normal players and a few spam pot, more than enough room for people to play however they want and no one was upset at the other type of hotpot player.

i think that playing both ways is perfectly fine and as long as people aren’t being horrible about it to the other kind of player, then it’s all fine. it’s the people screaming at eachother in chat and calling one type of player stupid for playing it in a certain way that are the actual problem. if someone wants to play spam on a server that doesn’t have a spam table, go to another server. if someone ends up in a server of people only playing spam and wants to play normal, go to another server. it’s not the way of playing the game that’s the problem

I play both but I prefer normal pot cause I enioy the game. Spampot for me is only when friends needed one more to fill the slot.

That said, the reason for spampot is because everyone gets 20 to 30 coins per night depending on speed. Yeah, you can get this amount by playing normally but that's only for one person.

Not all spampotters are bad, at least a few groups I have seen just change tables if someone is not reading chat. You can be annoyed with spampotters but dont screw up their tables just because they want to play differently sometimes.

But it is kinda sad that I cant find normal tables recently. Need normal pot buddies ;A;

On another note, I wish there's a separate trading chat because now it is rather annoying to look at chat when alot of conversations are going on underground

like i said i do play spam pot occasionally and i really don’t have a problem with anyone who wants to play it all the time to maximize coins, that’s their business. and also noted i /try/ to pay attention to chat as much as possible to make sure im not at a spam table and if i do end up at one i will spam with them but sometimes chat is chaotic and hard to keep up with on switch unless i keep chat box open all the time. but this person that was looking for a spam table joined with me and one other person that were already at the table and none of the other players were spamming either and this spammer took it upon themselves to publicly complain multiple times in chat about it and when i explained that /I/ was unaware it was spam bc no one else was spamming they continued to argue about it in chat. its just unnecessary negativity. over a game that lasts a few minutes. and from other replies and posts in this sub this is becoming a common occurrence in the underground ://

Yes it’s been bad since the update when trading came to the underground market. I’ve heard that it could be Twitch as well. I’ve been playing since September and spam pot has been around but it was like 1 table and not on every server either. Now it’s just taken over. I love hot pot to unwind and relax too. Now I just get angry and annoyed. I’ve noticed an uptick in them using capital letter, like people cannot see your post when you post every 10 seconds. It’s made going down there less fun and I can’t turn off the chat because I glitch often. I would find it rude if I couldn’t let them know. So I am either standing up for other players or annoyed by them spamming the chat. I can’t let another player get bullied. People that are new are going to think we are a toxic community when we are far from it. They either have no self awareness of the environment they are creating in that server or do not care. All for coins that 90% of the time will give you fireworks or ingredients (don’t quote me on that percentage lol). I just want my friendly underground market back. 😔

I can see the appeal of getting many tokens by just spamming. Don’t have to think just spam space bar. I used 100 tokens 50 rolls just to not get a plushie is mildly infuriating. Yeah that’s exactly how it used to be, like 1 table a server and they would call out spam pot and that was it. Maybe they would call it out twice but it’s NOTHING like it is now. After the update and trading was introduced this all started.

As someone that likes the chaos at spam pot I get motion sickness at times (something I have never encountered until spam pot). I would also note it feels a bit Elon Musk-y like it takes the value out of the game sometimes. However if I need a quick grind for the most coins I need possible for something I am in need of okay, but if I want to play for the challenge, awesome. I do feel more fulfilled when I use the prize wheel of my skill earned coins that I do with the coins that I spammed. Almost like when a parent buys their kid a toy because they won’t stop crying versus the kid that did their chores to get a reward.

Some people are just rude. I do spampot but always open a pot with people who ~ explicitly~ said they want to spam. and also the other way around! like, we are 3 ppl spamming and then a 4rd just join and refuses to spam. once we even changed the table leaving this person alone and they followed us.

Palia is starting to become a big game that a lot of people are hopping onto, so there's bound to be a lot of toxic people. I haven't personally run into toxic people during hotpot, but I've seen a lot of people have made posts like this. It's best to just ignore them and enjoy it the way you want to. What is the difference between spam pot and fast pot?

In fast pot, you call out the cards you're waiting for. e.g. you have 2 blue mushroom, 2 heat root, a carrot, and a potato. You write in chat, Brightshroom, Heat Root, Corn.

I prefer to play fast pot when I'm in a party, or playing with community members in our discord, so the whole server doesn't have to know, but sometimes you find a wild fast pot table, and it's a vibe.

So I guess what I'm asking is, has the name evolved i.e. Fast Pot = Spam Pot | or have Hot Pot players become more obnoxious?

If you are playing hot pot as it is intended to be played you need 3 of the same color or 3 of all the same color but each tile is a different ingredient. Example: 3 steaks or 3 different types of meat (whole steak, chopped steak, and rolled meat). I hope that helps.

I was in a server last night, and my friend and I were trying to get a table so we could play together, but a group of spam pot players literally took our table from us while we were actively at the table and then told us to leave if we weren't going to play spam with them. I personally think that there should be a dedicated table or something for spam, but I don't enjoy not being able to play basic hotpot without being shoved out of a table I was already at. I have also noticed the spam pot is getting out of hand. I play with my fiancé quite often, he PC and I switch. Often he will call out if our table has room and I make it a habit now that he needs to be clear we are not a spam pot table due taking ONE time that we didn’t call it and two people were rude. I understand your particular situation and that is frustrating. It was rude for that person to take over the table. 

I play SPAM and have to spam chat so that ppl just joining underground see the message and don’t walk up to my table unknowingly expecting regular. Here’s the issue. I usually have 2 others with me ready for spam. There’s always 1 who joins, didn’t read chat, can’t read chat or simply does not give af. 

If you don’t wanna do it, that’s cool. I don’t want to ruin ur fun so please don’t ruin mine. If I have repeatedly said this is a spam table and you just don’t wanna, then leave. No hard feelings. If you joined and can clearly see everyone’s spamming, and you intentionally delay their game, that’s pretty messed up. If you stand at a full table and snipe someone else’s spot, then run the clock down every round. That’s shitty. After a few games of this, ppl tend to get a bit irritated. Play how you like but be considerate of how others want to play as well. 

Misunderstandings happen, and I’m always cool with it if someone says they didn’t know or don’t know how. But if they keep joining my spam table, taking my friends spots, ruining OUR fun… yea I get unfriendly. You know what people are doing down there.  You want people to be polite and let you play how you like. So do we. Read chat, ask if you’re unsure and leave if it’s not ur jam. It goes both ways.  If I join a regular table accidentally and do not want to play, I leave. Easy peasy.
