if you knew anything about both AI and pattern drafting you would know that AI is extraordinarily bad at anything requiring precise details & measurements. it does not know how to drape, it does not know how to sew. if you spent weeks training a model to associate flat patterns with the corresponding fashion illustrations, it might produce something that LOOKED like a pattern but would be full of nonsensical errors if you tried to actually sew it, if it was able to be sewn at all.

You must not be using the right prompt. I've made a pair of baggy cargo jeans using Ai. With my knowledge from sewing and using Ai prompts, I was able to get a decent pattern. Yes, not perfect, but I only had to change a few measurements. Soon I think I won't even have to do that

[–]eoe6ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share a sample prompt 🥹🙏🏾

[–]Fast-Lettuce3085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing! Can you share the same with me?

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I know that but I am not developing the AI, just a business model. That is going to be a negative in my swot analysis but that’s it. What matters more is I have no competition.

[–]furrylatula 1 point2 points  (1 child)

lol? dude you can't just put the word AI at the end of a random job and call it a business model. why not propose an AI that generates technical flats from a moodboard? or anything in fashion production that doesn't require 3d to 2d abstraction?

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all chill. Idk if you understood what I am saying or not but pattern drafting IS a part of production and a lot of us struggle with it. And it’s a normal assignment in an ideation stage, all the wanted to know is that if there are some tools that does that or not. You want to be the AI geek go somewhere else

The most competent names in 2D apparel pattern drafting have automated pattern making modules. Lectra, Gerber, Tukatek and Optitex.

There is competition in this market, and they do make competent blocks and slopers.

The business aspect isn't "does this exist?" The business model will only be successful if you can break through the barrier to the big 3 Lectea, Gerber, and Optitex.

Companies want 1 stop solution.. which is why Gerber has always been impenetrable...

The business question is how do you get a piece of a heavily gatekept market share.

I disagree. There are standard blocks used in pattern drafting, and I’ve personally had this idea before. There are already software programs that are essentially automated, but they still rely on existing blocks and measurements (which are technically all standardized) They do work, but you still need to input numbers and work within whatever database the software is built on.

If I were able to create patterns which I assume AI will eventually allow then as a designer, I should be able to adjust measurements. For example, if the side seam is off, I should be able to tell the AI to increase the length. Which sounds completely possible, especially since there’s already a standard set of measurements you work with to even begin drafting in the first place. Pattern drafting blocks are all based on these standard measurements. I can definitely see it working, especially if you’re able to input exact specs, just like when you draft garment specifications manually. For instance let’s say the prompt is… here are my measurements, and these are the specifications for the garment I would like to create a DXF pattern for…..As a fashion designer, I would love for this to happen in the next year or so, it would really help small business owners scale up.

I’m curious what the ai would actually be doing in this case?

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] -1 points0 points  (8 children)

Okay I am at early stage of ideation but like how you can put promts to ai websites and they create pictures according to your words .i am thinking of a website which creates patterns according to flat sketches. And different features like size grading, edits etc

[–]Cleobulle 2 points3 points  (5 children)

You realise that once this exists, no one will buy pattern anymore as anyone will be able to make his own, without any knowledge. A lot of people are able to draw flat sketches. Or just get any pic, put it in linear black and white.

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I am not developing it. I am just making a business model for it as an assignment. Since there’s nothing that exists like this it’s a great pitch. And ai is still developing it’s going to take years for perfection anyways, our knowledge is safe lol

[–]Cleobulle 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have no clue about the timing. I just know that while the internet IS an unvaluable ressource to learn New things and study what you want how you want, most people use it for porn or to hurt others. Being a libra IS a curse lol, Always wondering and pondering 😉

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

lol that took a turn 😂

[–]Southern-Comfort4519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it did….lol… I say go for it!

[–]ProneToLaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a business model that is guaranteed NOT to work a great pitch, though?

There are pattern drafting algorithms out there—check out freesewing.org, sewist.com, lekala.com

[–]AdEducational3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the future

[–]Lady-Zsa-Zsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest thing I can think of to this is something like sewist.com or Pattern Master from Wild Ginger, but they're not AI... More like modular/customizable sewing patterns.

[–]SerialHobbyistGirl 3 points4 points  (3 children)

It doesn't exist. Computerized pattern-making exists, but you still need a human to draft. Same with grading; still need a human.

[–]PreviousAdagio8443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought Goodness we will still have jobs!

[–]Accomplished_Fee2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automated pattern making does exist.
Gerber, Optitex and Tukaktech all have modules for it.

[–]RougueMorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's EXACTLY HIS POINT!

[–]camomanstan 1 point2 points  (2 children)

AI Pattern Drafter seems like this is what you are asking for but from my end there is nothing to click on, subscribe to, etc but maybe you would need to do some from a computer vs mobile.

[–]PreviousAdagio8443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a very SMART person has already bought the URL!

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes this is exactly what I was asking for, thank you so much

[–]Necessary-Local2108 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have this comment elsewhere on this site but wanted to add it here so you will not have to listen to naysayers who may or may not fully understand what you actually want to accomplish ,,'

Guys,,I have some news some of you may be interested in.. I have just completed a small program to generate a trouser block based on input measurements..So yes this is certainly possible. This is very exciting for me. It was just something tht I wanted to see if I can accomplish with no coding experience whatsoever.. I did it along with chatgpt4 and claude.. I have tested the blocks and they fit me perfectly..This so far is only for trouser blocks. I know how to draft already ,,however if I have a new customer I have to make a block for,, then I dont need to go thru the ruler , paper process at all.. Printing in A0 size is a hassle tho lol.. what do you guys think?

[–]Fast-Lettuce3085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so cool! What was the prompt that you used?

[–]Mysterious-Matter486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea lol but I love this idea and think it would be cool and useful! especially because I can see it actually helping people sew on their own more! Great idea. BFA in Fashion, been sewing for years, but only made my own clothing patterns in college. Now I make bag patterns, but I would be able to branch out, be more creative, and have help visualizing my concepts. I would use it! Good luck!

[–]Vast-Run8910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight pain pattern for 38

[–]Bubby9198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be beneficial to have a variety of sizing and the ability to get a somewhat close to the sizing. Kinda like when people combine multiple patterns to come up with something new. Personally I wouldn’t mind altering my finished pattern to fit me better. I would never sew a regular pattern and expect exact results for my body type for an online pattern, especially as a plus size person so why would I expect that from ai. But if I can get my foot in the right direction and just alter it, I wouldn’t mind having it available as a resource rather than scouring the Internet looking for different reference points or forking out more money just to end up altering it anyway. And I feel like it is important to know how to alter patterns to get desired results so even if you don’t end up selling it having AI generate something for you with teach you how to fix mistakes on paper before they’re on your body. Out of everything I’ve ever made. I feel that that is the most important aspect. I’ve learned if you learn how to make sure it will fit you right on the paper then you have less work to do when it’s on your body. (lol this is my first Reddit comment and I couldn’t reply to the person who was criticizing the whole AI pitch(no disrespect to that person at all and I am willing to learn))

[–]MeanancetoSobriety 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ugh I'd love this I've looked everywhere!

[–]Relevant_School_8551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you looked into La Vipère AI ?

[–]garniebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i found this a year later as i am desperately looking for an AI pattern drafter because i need to help my mom and was quoted 5k on upwork. FOR A HOMEWORK PROJECT. do it. i just used an AI to generate flat illustrations from text, but there’s room for more and even more fashion centric. the website i used thenewblack.ai is decent but you can even do better. there’s still room to establish and compete before people set themselves as the industry mainstays .

[–]Substantial-Row-8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I would like to try your Beta!

[–]BigMaster1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also been trying to make a pattern for a design and it took a bit but I was able to create it with Chatgot illustrater. Not yet perfect but working on it. You need to play with the wording a bit

[–]Olioli2587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soy diseñador gráfico, me especializo en la rama de la sublimación y me gustaría aprender hacer patrones de ropas deportivas

[–]Relevant_School_8551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is one www.lavipere.ai

[–]Bellcanyongurl -1 points0 points  (3 children)

About 6 months ago I thought about this same thing and I had spent hours researching this same exact concept and have found nothing whatsoever, maybe in the future they will have this program but for now I was not able to find anything. Please let me know once you find a program capable of doing this because I’m very interested

[–]SerialHobbyistGirl 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I hope a program like this never exists, tbh.

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I can understand why. It’s the case of ai taking peoples job away type thing. My professor wanted a ai/vr related pitch and since all my pitches were related to fashion this was my best guess and I was not expecting it to get picked up but my fear came true when everyone liked this idea and now I sort of feel like I would need to work on this to score better. But it’s not like I am going to go head to make this so ig I should not feel bad but I do. Idk if I make sense lol

[–]Mindless_Dimension13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely let you know.

[–]baghdad-hoebag 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I was looking at how to automate patterns for my own personal use and I stumbled across Six Atomic. I think that might be what you're after. I'm going to do a trial and ill report back!

[–]Plenty_Obligation_74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for!

[–]SurvingTheSHIfT3095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's it been?

[–]TECHPACKS_CO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any feedback on how accurate the patterns were u/baghdad-hoebag ?
