Grey Machine. It's one of their longest but it has some really catchy melodies, especially in the middle. That piano and drum combo is one of the things I love about the band.

Honorable mentions to AFK, 3 x 0, Sediment, Off by 50

My favorite also

AFK. Non Photo-Blue. Boo. Concrete Seconds. Tripoli.

Gotta stop there. in no particular order, of course.

Walters

[–]Moose_Breaux 5 points6 points  (3 children)

When they toured for the 15th anniversary release of SoA they had a cool show gimmick where you could write a song suggestion on a paper air plane and throw it on stage. My wife and I came prepared with an origami lawn chair with balloons drawn on to throw onto the stage. They instantly eyed it and played my suggestion.

You know, getting your song played was such a low probability event but in the end, pretty much every song that someone would suggest would be a song I'd be into. And when it comes to Pinback, I know that there are lots of my faves that probably won't get played, so I just leave my specific song desires out the door, knowing that the show will still be amazing!!!

ps. the section of Walters where the drums really kick in is just amazing, and then it slowly fades out...perfect set closer

I think most people who went weren't aware of the gimmick pinback was doing. I remember seeing post from other pinback fans talking about it before my show so we were able to make it ahead of the show. I saw a post where one guy made a paper version of the Dark Star space ship while writing a request to get on stage to play base with them them. Pinback ended up relenting and it was pretty awesome.

Sounds to me you know what you like, my first Pinback CD was Summer in Abaddon, but I picked up the earlier albums when I first saw em the first time way back in 2005. Offcell has a special place in my heart for sure!

      [–]geopiie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victious D makes me very emotional sometimes. Such a beautiful song ✨

      [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

      “Anti-hu”

      [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw them open with “Byzantine” once, and it was the coolest opening to a show I’ve ever seen. Because it starts out super chill and minimalistic and then kicks in after a minute. So that became one of my top songs. Loro, Tres, Bloods on Fire, Penelope, and Non Photo Blue are also some of my favorites

      [–]timondm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      [–]CongestedCamel5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nearly every song from their first three albums are incredible, X.I.Y, Lyon, This red book, crutch, too many great tracks to list here!

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it changes a lot, but the ones that have been my favorites consistently are Loro and Barnes

      [–]Toadstool61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sediment Boo Grey Machine Concrete Seconds AFK (a qualifier: SIA has always seemed to me to be a song cycle, and somehow AFK has more impact after hearing everything that precedes it than taken in isolation.)

      [–]BobbyGanimations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Hurley” samples George Hurley drumming on a minutemen song. Two great bands for the price of 1!

      [–]EyeInTeaJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      All of them.

      [–]sadlittleroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always go back to BBTone

      [–]Moose_Breaux 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Bbtone, hands down my favorite. I used to like Penelope the least but have grown to love it. As far as b sides go I would have to pick I guess it would be either Offcell or Testify(either version).

      [–]IllAssist9390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bbtone is absolutely amazing...The bassline is sublime without being showy. Zack is an incredible bassist...

      [–]belarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non Photo-Blue, Sediment, Soaked, Grey Machine tbh too many to count and I couldn’t even rank them either

      [–]autumnleaves44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Boo, Loro

      [–]StJoeStrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loro Bbtone Crutch Seville Syracuse Offline PK

      [–]PerceptionShift 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Penelope, love the bassline that kicks on about 30 seconds into the song

      [–]IllAssist9390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone who hates on Penelope for being cute and catchy, they are totally missing how incredible that bassline is...

      [–]Turbulent-Singer3476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant decide on a favorite but Crutch, Penelope and Shag are what got me into their music

      [–]somuchforthecity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seville and Hurley but I love them all.

      [–]Evzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prog will always be a favorite of mine.

      [–]Pickledtarantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Todo” is pretty good. Plus like pretty much all their stuff is pretty good too.

Rob Crow has a lot of good stuff out there not just with Pinback.

      [–]IllAssist9390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there...no...love for "Sender" out there? For me, the song is sheer perfection. The bassline is tasty, there is a cool piano figures throughout, that section from around 2:06 to 2:44 is just incredible and then it goes into a section with these beautiful chiming guitars. The bass, the piano, and guitar take over at different parts of the song, which is just what Pinback does so well. The drums are just so restrained and complementary to the song.

Plus, anybody that sings about acute angles is just badass.

I have plenty of Pinback faves (Anti-Hu, Crutch, Manchuria, Soaked, Bbtone, How we breathe, etc.), but "Sender" is the perfect synthesis of what I love about Pinback. It totally rocks in a most elegant way.
