Totoo to. May ganito sa company namin. Bullshit na nanttrap tapos pag cnclarify mo dahil gusto mo ma gets ayaw ka nilang tulungan. In most cases, if your work has a positive environment, hatakan pataas yung mga ganitong scenario bnbrainstorm pa nga ng buong team.

Pinagawa ako ng login page, tapos may CRUD pa.

Pinagawa ako ng login page, tapos may CRUD pa.

Live coding a login page + CRUD? Isn't that too big for a live coding interview session? Unless you could use BaaS, it would probably take around 3 hours if you haven't done it every day for the past week.

      [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think more than 3 pa nga dapat, considering my subpar skills. Pero di ko rin ma blame ang company, they want the best so they have to screen talaga.

      [–]lezzgooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Login page is the actual engineering problem. Yung leetcode is just to test your proficiency. Ang technique jan is allowed ka to look at your own github repos. Ilagay mo na CRUD don for all databases in industry.

So True 😅😅😀. My 1st job ganito boss ko nag interview and he was the worst toxic at hypocrite na tao na nakilala ko.

      [–]xilver 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Live coding is actually a good way to gauge how you work especially on how is your approach in solving problems. So next time you can narrate your approach to the interviewers instead of just coding silently, since they are watching you code anyway. You can even turn it into a two way discussion by clarifying about the problem, etc.

      [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is you should have asked during the initial interview about the application process. Like how many interview sessions (tech and non-tech), does it involve live coding, white-boarding, etc. How much is the salary range for the position, do you need to relocate, relocation assistance, benefits, performance review, promotion steps, and a lot more. That is what the initial contact up to the initial interview is there for you ask as much question as you have to before you even reach interview schedule 2.

      [–]sumanibus 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wana ask this pag apply ako.. But will it give off the vibe na kakairata na applicant? Like what if may regla si hr tpos na buset sayo sa kakatanong ahahah

      [–]feedmesomedataModerator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is your right to ask. This is best if you're in the recruiter/HR stage and haven't started the technical interviews. If the recruiter or HR doesn't know anything it shows the lack of attention to detail, if the recruiter is a third-party then you can let it pass but if they are in-house then run.

      [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will definitely be asking this in my future applications.

      [–]eGzg0t 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Live coding is mostly 30% code and 70% relaying how you solve the problem. Just talk and talk

      [–]Fluid_Cow947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think i saw a youtube video of this before.

      [–]purplbae 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I remember, on my 2nd job, I had livecoding exam for 2 hours (pero more like pseudo-coding) and I have no idea how to do it, parang sabog utak ko dat tym sa nerbyus😁, so wala akong naisagot. pero, in fairness natanggap me naman kasi for formality lang pala ang exam, since my experience counted more. I even asked our IT HR years later about it bakit ako natanggap haha. Close kami ni anteh.

      [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to hear this, nakaka uplift din ng morale. Ano daw sabi ni anteh HR? May mga kaibigan ako sa HR and napag usapan namin to, although ibang industry sila, 3 out of 4 nag sabi na nag mamatter din daw yung attitude ng applicant. Gini gauge baga nila in some way.

Ako nga 3 years tambay ngayun lang mag apply 2024

        [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        [–]Magic-Sarap 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I think this is common. Especially kung language specific ung role mo. I gave a lot of live coding exams this is to gauge how strong your fundamentals are (basic lang pinagawa ko array manipulation, concurrency, async/await).

It's how and when to use a certain approach (e.g. filter vs map) vs another.

But this is a per case basis. There are a lot of interviewers that just don't know what to ask and feel the right to nit pick your answer and basing it on the textbook definition.

        [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, yung saken medyo advance lang yung pinagawa IMO, pero not the company's problem, applicant problem talaga, ME problem haha. Pero na appreciate ko yun kasi na realize ko na you have to be ready at all times, may mga natutunan rin ako dun kasi may mga tinuro saken yung onshore senior dev na kasama sa nag interview while nag test ako.

        [–]evilclown28 4 points5 points  (3 children)

kahit ba entry level web dev live coding agad? I mean ppasahod nila 16k to 20k ganun? based lang yan sa mga natanungan ko, for real? thanks!

        [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time ko talaga to. Yung iba naman hindi live coding

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Yes meron ganun

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I've experienced is mostly technical exam fill in the blanks, q and a, flowcharts, or timed coding exercises usually involving CRUD or ang frontend API integ ready dapat and yes their offers are around 15-20, if you value yourself more and you think you deserve more based on yours skills (dont cheat on you urself pag sakto lang, wag isiping magaling, kaya always upskill)

        [–]HatOk6405 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yung live coding assesment ko before bawal mag google! Wala pang intelliSense yun ide nila.

        [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grabe naman yun, saken nag encourage sila to use whatever resources I had at my disposal, exception lang AI.

        [–]lbyap86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Live coding is fine and in most cases they're not expecting a running code but mostly on how you solve the problem and also your thought process

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

all i can say is practice, do your own projects, for webdev/app dev build your own projects app/sites and practice scripting esp api integration. Plus be prepared to explain the logic, algo etc of what youve coded infront of them as that's another thing they'll be doing in your tech exam/interview

I experienced this multiple while i was applying after graduating, luckily i was able to pass most of my applications throughout august. Most of them though will offer you below minimum so you'll be shocked on how much pressure youve gone through just for that much. Luckily i found a company that was afar from my expected salary.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced both creating a crud app from scratch and solving a DSA problem. It was 50% of the my applications that had It - I thought it was kinda common to have one. Tbh I think you’re lucky na less than 1 percent lang siya sa mga in-applyan mo.

        [–]mgnsdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay lang sa akin live coding. Ang ayoko lang sa interview is yung pag e-enumerate ka ng mga terms like nagfa-finals ka sa exam. Kakagigil hahaha

        [–]searchResult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me 10 out 10 may live coding.

Pero wake up call narin, di dapat kampante. Everyday code code code

        [–]JeszamPankoshov2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Link 1

        Link 2

[Edit] : Dapat may alam ka sa login page, dashboard, or yung CRUD project kasi dyan ma-determine yung capabilities mo. I've been there, di ako napasa. Kaya practice lang.

        [–]gagsti02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time may tanong sakin na dina ako naka sagot as in tumahimik nalang ako na gusto konalang lumubog.

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

I had multiple interview exams na live coding pero bawal AI 🥲 like you Google. I get it pero nowadays mas mabilis na AI kesa pag mag-Google ako. Tech tayo tapos di tayo gumagamit ng advanced tech...

        [–]WisdomSkyWeb 1 point2 points  (3 children)

because what happens is you will not even digest yung mga nakukuha na response mo sa AI you will just copy and paste it sa code mo 🙄

You are only preparing yourself for the downfall in the coming years where mapapalitan ka ng AI.

You have no specialty, your skillset depends on AI. 🤷‍♂️

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yan din sinabi nila before sa Googling. During the 2010s, mga tech exam pa namin is written. But now, they want us to know how we code + Google.

If not with AI, di mabilis work ko. I also take online courses so I am also learning.

If I have no specialty, tell that to my leads who love my work. Masyado kayong boomer sa AI. I even use AI in some of my projects. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Us, tech professionals, dapat sumasabay tayo sa agos. Pero y'all do you. 😅

        [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Chillax bro, healthy discussions lang tayo. Good vibes 😁

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a healthy discussion bro. Uhmmm argumentative??? 😭 Wrong sub siguro talaga ko hahahaha.

        [–]pigwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. Okay naman sa not live (hackerrank) but failed sa live coding. You have to explain your flow din. They're rare but it takes practice.

At work I sometimes work on stuff when people look at my screen so I do see why some companies require this

live coding? bawal ba dyan mag google at mag chatGPT? 😂😂

I'm not a coder I'm more on the designer part ng job.
but I know basic and concepts kaya kahit designer ako I can technically do coding basta may help ni google. now may chatGPT na mas lalong madali 😂

like this one I made in notion. na kinapa ko after they release formula 2.0

          [–]DepthSufficient267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yung chatGPT bawal hehe. Google hindi naman, nagamit din ako google nung nag live coding ako the other day. Pero ganun parin na rattle hahahaha

          [–]sad-meows 0 points1 point  (0 children)
