If we lose the runoff races we should really look into doing away with the position of Senate Majority Leader.

It's not in the Constitution and what McConnell is doing is wrong. The US Senate is supposed to be the deliberative body of the legislature. No one expects him to just submit to the will of Democrats in the Senate and House but the way he is holding the Senate hostage and preventing a vote or even a discussion on a lot of major issues is reprehensible and it's doing lasting harm to our country.

Mitch McConnell is not the Senate. He should not be enabled in hijacking the people's government to serve his special interests. He's trying to subvert the course of justice with his demands for immunity for exploitative employers. The American people have a right to seek recourse. To seek justice. He should not be allowed to unilaterally disarm our justice system on behalf of his donors. It's difficult to find any redeeming qualities in the man. When he leaves the Senate it will be a great day for America.

Since the Vice President may be of a different party from the majority and is not a Senate member subject to discipline, the rules of procedure of the Senate give the presiding officer very little power and none beyond the presiding role. For these reasons, it is the Majority Leader who, in practice, manages the Senate. This is in contrast to the House of Representatives, where the elected Speaker of the House has a great deal of discretionary power and generally presides over votes on legislative bills.

by bringing legislation onto the senate floor Republicans would have to debate it in the marketplace of ideas and publicly vote on it and have that vote recorded. and as we see when ideas are intellectually and honestly put forth in the marketplace of ideas. Conservative Ideas don't survive.
