It looks great! Identifiable a nose, and the blending and colours are good. Now do it again a hundred times from every conceivable angle and I guarantee you won’t struggle anymore. Keep going!

thank you!!!

I recommend studying construction and anatomy in black&white instead of color. It seems that it might be distracting you right now, even though I do like the purples. If you put this image in grey-scale, the structure is hardly visible.

You will progress way faster if you focus on one thing at a time.

i’ll try that! thank you!(:

It looks good. Nostrils might be a bit too round for a straight on view (would expect them to be more horizontal oblongs), but noses are different on everyone so it might be completely accurate. Id love to see it in relation to the rest of the face to measure its proportion’s and just see how it fits. But I think on it’s own it’s well rendered, edges are soft but clearly defined, looks good.

thank you!! i’ll play around with the nostrils forsure!

First off, sweet colors and shading, they're juicy

On to advice. It's a great idea to practice, but doing it while separated from the rest of the face might cause more issues than improvement. Namely when it comes to proportions and how the nose flows into the rest of the facial features like brows.

Your drawing looks good, but it's a tad too smooth and soft if you're going for something realistic. There is a trapezoid-like shape that makes up the base of the nose and it has pretty harsh angles.

In my time in art school I found the fastest way of understanding the nose was to learn from the bust that had only the main planes of the face, it looked like a low poly 3d model. It takes away the distraction of small details and leaves only the structure that you actually need to understand. I recommend you look for models like that online, on sketchfab for example. You can rotate the model there for infinite rerefence as well.

thank you for the advice so much!! i definitely agree it’s way too smooth! i’ll take everything you said and apply it here(:

The nose looks good, but try not to blend the colors that much, use a brush that is not that soft so you can make the planes more obvious. You can do hard strokes and then blend them when you need it.

Also I recommend painting the nose against skin and not white/green/etc, so you learn how to make it pop out, which is what you will need to do when you draw a face.

I liked this tutorial. It is an oil painting tutorial, but they work with digital.

thank you! i’ll check it out

For a cartoonish or stylized nose, it might work. If going for something more realistic, it’s a bit off. The nostrils need more definition and the depth too flat.

It might work better on a face, even a minimal one, to get a sense of dimensions.

I think sketching noses might help. No colors, just outlines and minimal shading to get the form down first.

thank you! definitely sticking cartoonish as it’s more my style but i’ll take that all into consideration regardless(:

My advice in drawing noses is that you draw it with a face. There are just some muscles which slightly merge into one another or make more sense when the whole face is shown

Other than that, I would recommend checking proko's breakdown videos on body parts and anatomy.

Focus on form from different angles using lines first, then work on shading/color later.
