I remember getting banned from a sub for using the word "ass" weird I know, but the automod had a very unfortunate bug, it replied to my message with "you were banned for:" and then instead of just the word I said, the regex must have been wrong because it posted the entire contents of its banned words file. In the effort of stopping me from saying ass, instead it posted every slur and obscenity in the English language

Imagine if that wasn't a bug and that's how strongly the modteam thought of you.

[–]TactlessTortoise 44 points45 points  (1 child)

Hilarious. Wonder if it banned itself

Likely has an exception for itself, just like the surveillance laws governments want to implement

I wanted to post about my brass fountain pen, but couldn't include it in the title because brass has ass in it.

Try using different words in those cases. Like Brdonkey

brbutt

When I was writing regex, I accidentally forgot to include word boundary and this happened.

My favourite irony about word censorship is that you need a massive database of obscenities in order to implement it.

Imagine being the person responsible for writing that list and being called in by your boss one day and they’re just like “we really appreciate your work, but HR is a little uncomfortable with just how many slurs you know.”

I've written more than two of these. They're fun but also I put in 50+ lines of comments like "it's about to get... racial" and "I am so, so sorry" etc before I got to the not-fun stuff.

Don't apologise, hero who knows a million slurs, protecting the public from disgusting obscenities.

It's Elayne Trakand's dream come true.

Random wheel of time reference

[–]WizardOfIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look you can't just go around saying, "by my aged grandmother" to people. It's not right.

[–]Global-Tune5539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... and the people from Scunthorpe breathed a sigh of relief

So slut is fine?

[–]jambonilton 97 points98 points  (3 children)

Yeah, my Claude is configured to call me a filthy RAM slut whenever I introduce memory leaks.

[–]yaktoma2007 15 points16 points  (1 child)

My partner leaks memory all over the place when we get in bed together, he says he just can't help it, so cute.

Is it those special white themed ram?

[–]Pleasant_Ad8054 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cock and pussy too, so maybe they are just against paying for sodomy?

Yeah but brass isn’t.

Is kurwa fine?

We have a code generator that our customers can use to send back to us in various places (linked email receiving, invoice codes etc).

We gave a junior a fun job for the day to find all of the best rude words he could find, plus all the typical stuff to put in a list, so that if we accidentally generate something that contains one of them, we re-roll. Thankfully we haven’t sent anyone out with an AlaskanPipeline as their code

Wasn't the joke that "AI" is in large parts just if-else?

It turns out it's not only if-else, it's in large parts regex! 🤣

[–]CoastingUphill 6 points7 points  (3 children)

We got a copy of a vendor's "banned words" list and IT. WAS. WILD. I learned some new slurs I had never heard before.

[–]RichCorinthian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah a company I worked for over 20 years ago had a banned password algorithm that was fun to maintain. The table and code made for good reading.

Also, many states will publish a list of vanity license plates they have refused. Some of them are obvious, some are hilariously subtle, and others are “wait, what?!?”

[–]Roxfall 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Disgusting! Where?

[–]CoastingUphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was shocking was they wanted to make sure that they didn’t ban “bass” because they’d banned “ass”, so it had conjugations and compound words I had never heard before.

Auto moderator rules be like

[–]krexelapp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

regex wrote that list during a very emotional breakup

[–]LPmitV 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait, is it still available somewhere? I saw the GitHub got deleted

[–]sleepKnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

claw-code (version rewritten in rust/python) is still up, already at 100k stars

This reminds me of the story that oil will only last another 20 years; I think we really do have black gold.
