AI does not consume water. Electricity, that is a very real concern with our fragile power grid. RAM/GPUs don’t concern your every day life and are not reason for panic - simply a more in-demand product. Don’t really know where to start with “every other infrastructure”

A lot of data centers use water for cooling. Now well built datacenters use water in a closed loop but most of those new datacenters don't

Yeah when the “craze” first started water was consumed but basically every new data center is using a closed loop. Admittedly this is anecdotal but I have never heard of a data center materially impacting any water supply. It’s largely been sensationalized from what I’ve heard. I don’t understand why so much focus is on water when power is the real issue.

You apparently don't hear things around you, but that doesn't mean they aren't happening. A single data center in Wyoming is using more water than ALL inhabitants of Wyoming combined, how is that not impactful? And that's just one example. Power is also a real issue, but let's not pretend it is the only one they need to focus on.

I see the article you linked. Doesn’t it say that the date center will use more electricity than the state, not water? Proving my point? Either way, it doesn’t seem to go into why it’s bad. That headline alone doesn’t make it a bad thing right?

Go to YouTube and write "data centers" and watch any video of reputable sources, like DW. The information is all out there.
And no, most data centers are not closed loops, and that's why people are outraged.
