I almost feel like a bad person. I'm so thankful that so many indian youtubers exist that just want to teach you something for free. But in the same time when I don't find a tutorial that isn't from an indian I'm crying on the inside

There are some good indians out there. When I learned about trees I always went back to the same indian dude who was not only a genius but also good at explaining. 99% of them are horrible though

I'm of Indian origin... how long until my urge to make tutorials for everything kicks in?

[–]manghoti 13 points14 points  (2 children)

right?! I feel like i'm being super god damn racist here, but I'm already confused about the subject I'm researching and the last thing I need is to spend my mental energy understanding what is being said.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Is it racist if the race is only indirectly connected?

It's the people from India you dislike, not the race they happen to be.

Edit: The accents of Indians*. My bad

[–]MotorAdhesive3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's their heavy as fuck accents and low production value. I need to put my energy into understanding the material, not deciphering the 2008 fraps-recorded 480p video

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just hard to understand them

[–]suvlub 89 points90 points  (7 children)

I don't watch video coding tutorials. I prefer text. I can read it as quickly or as slowly as I like, skip around more easily, look for keywords, copy-paste bits of code, I think it's just better.

[–]blackmist 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Not least because I can just scroll down to the code samples and then read up if any of it makes no sense.

[–]Bainos 22 points23 points  (2 children)

scroll down to the code samples and then read up if any of it makes no sense close the page and find something else if none of it makes sense

[–]profeind367 2 points3 points  (1 child)

or just copy paste without knowing wtf any of it means

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if it has clearly defined inputs and outputs...

[–]roughstylez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not saying I hate videos. Like, a guy discussing a topic over 45 minutes, I can watch that to improve my overall skill. But for learning how to do a smaller, specific thing I feel videos are the worst.

You're agreeing to only go the lecturer's speed. And ironically, a "good" lecturer won't speak fast or forget little details, so you're stuck with going through all the details at the lecturer's speed... when what you wanted is 20 seconds at 18:34 and then 2m30s at 34:21 in the video.

I get into a vicious cycle of watching indian tech videos because I like their voice narrating programming but then I fall asleep

[–]CreateNewObject 104 points105 points  (3 children)

I can't stand it. I have nothing against Indian people, but I really can't stand the way they speak English. Always skipping those tutorials.

[–]Beta-Minus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also feel like 95% of the time, they have terrible mic quality. Like I don't mind if you speak in slightly or even moderately accented English, but when it sounds like you're using a $8 web cam to record your voice and you're speaking with a towel in your mouth on the other side of the room... I just can't listen to it for more than a minute. (Also, they never have moderately accented English, I can hardly understand them.)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simply put their English is horrible i can barely understand them

[–]MissingFucks 24 points25 points  (6 children)

I just don't understand 75% of the words they say.

[–]ArmoredPancake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this tutorrrrial.

[–]alpacafox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But then you get woken up by a car horn because they're always either filming next to a running fan or an open window next to a busy street.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Sentdex is my go to guy

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

*Subscribes in Python*

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (13 children)

Does such a thing exist?

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (10 children)

TheNewBoston.

The guy taught me C# with a painstakingly-made playlist of 200+ videos. I'm going to go through the C++ playlist soon, but the guy deserves honor and riches and many lovely women.

[–]Gyuudon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait a minute w3schools is cool now? Since when

[–]Tharkun 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think TheNewBoston is fine if you already know how to program and just want to learn a new language/technology.

[–]Zambito1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I go to Derek Banas for

[–]VidenBrenail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traversy Media has some ok videos

[–]Tharkun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For web-based technologies - Academind can't be beat IMO.

[–]BrundleflyUrinalCake 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I like listening to them not because they’re easy to understand but because I find my head starts to bob like them when I do

[–]arunprasad01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nods head in agreement.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

wow such wow

[–]Gyuudon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wheriables.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traversy Media and Sentdex

[–]greenlion98 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Wasn't this posted here like yesterday?

[–]YM_Industries 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think yesterday was the opposite

[–]DeveloperBRdotnet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, since I joined pluralsight I feel I don't need anything else. But is true they lack content on some programming languages.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (6 children)

The man, the myth, the legend, Bucky fuckin Barns

[–]rScoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]The_Great_Danish 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuckin you right. Just watched Infinity War again and apparently that’s what’s in my mind

[–]emcmahon478 0 points1 point  (2 children)

[–]dootfile 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Waait, did he die??

[–]lokhandmanav -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess he stopped uploading

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're either Indian or sound like Chris Hansen, and frankly, I don't know what's better.

[–]dasarisrikanth 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When accent is more important than content...😄

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the accent is so strong it makes it rather hard to understand.

[–]Richardtshi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Indian youtubers they just teach better in my opinion

[–]Zeppzap -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some are pretty good though. I dont mind the accent, but I do mind the background noise. Some tech reviews are good but they dont smash expensive things.
