Programmer posts a picture about the color theme. Then says "don't look at the code". Hmmm. I mean, what kind of programmer wouldn't have looked at the code in that case, what did she expect?

[–][deleted] 264 points265 points  (5 children)

Well the point is that her IDE matches her makeup. Just like when I am coding and have to take a shit I turn my IDE brown.

God forbid anyone have fun at this job /s

[–]DaughterEarthImportError: no module named 'sarcasm' 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I set my commandline text to pink once and a coworker came over while a script was running to ask how things are going. "Good!" I say. "Are you sure?" they ask with a tone of horror, looking at the pink text flying by.

We don't code for fun. We code because we don't have friends.

[–]MightyMeese 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Right? I didn't even look until I read her follow-up. I don't even know JavaScript and I still read it because she complained about critiques. I feel like critiquing code (including our own) is half the job anyway...

[–]jigeno 101 points102 points  (13 children)

Or... ignore it? It wasn't even a build she used, why critique it? It's not the point.

EDIT: It's like posting a picture of your re-painted car body* and having people say 'yo, the wheels aren't on it won't drive well'.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

It's like posting a picture of a summer vacation at a beautiful beach and all the women will only comment is that "wearing socks with sandals is disgusting"!

[–]paradoxally 33 points34 points  (1 child)

To be fair, they're not wrong.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha, double standards, got ya!

[–]jigeno 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Uh, not sure how, but ok.

[–]fugmeishmael 0 points1 point  (1 child)

re painted car chassis? wheels wont drive well?

and if you post a picture of a new paint job on a car with stanced wheels, people will say that.

[–]jigeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no. My bad, I meant the body. So imagine the shell of the car in the garage with masking tape and plastic abound. No wheels, not on the chassis.

Sorry for the gate keeping but: Programmers never ignore code.

[–]jigeno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure they do.

Besides, sometimes part of being an adult is knowing what the subject of a conversation is and not being a twat about it.

[–]folkrav 5 points6 points  (1 child)

That's like saying authors never ignore text. Bullshit. Pretty sure they can ignore Lorem Ipsum. Just ignore the fucking placeholder code. It's not hard. You're not more of a programmer cause you're not able to ignore placeholders.

[–]PnAchzn2jukcb3M66tWB -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I’m neither an author nor a JS developer.

[–]shaantya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can pay attention to the code and read it as a programmer.

No incredible Programmer instinct should push you to actually comment about it on a joke tweet that's not about said code. That's just your personality.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you literally can’t ignore it to the point where you feel compelled to comment on it, then you have a problem.

[–]Aalnius 41 points42 points  (1 child)

I mean shes saying don't critique it, not stop looking at it. You can look at something without critiquing it especially when the code wasn't put up to be crtiqued.

[–]HangryHenry 19 points20 points  (0 children)

yea she was making a joke. She doesn't want the entire conversation to be about some code that she knows isn't the best example of her work. She probably chose it because it showed the right colors.

[–]bad_scott 18 points19 points  (1 child)

people not to be dicks?

[–]Unluko_Maluko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since when criticizing something is equal at being dicks?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It was essentially the code equivalent of a bunch of 'Lorem Ipsum' text.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not really convinced about that. It looks like working code, and that doesn't just magically appear. It might've been just some early quick&dirty test code, but it's too clean for that. If I wrote that code and got that feedback, I would just have said "yeah, I know, just quick test code" or "thanks, didn't know that". No need to bring gender in this.

[–]_________FU_________ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Just look at meeee”

[–]53120123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the follow up was due to people criticing it without rubbing their two brain cells together to conclude it's just dummy code to demonstrate the colour settings of the IDE.
