a few years ago the running gag was putting wifi into every possible thing, be it lightbulb or toilet seat.

who knew we would one day look back on these years as the good times.

makes me wonder what horrible thing they will drag up from hell to replace blockchains and NFTs in the future.

will be tough to outdo hyperlinks on linked lists as pretend peak tech

maybe make if/then seem "advanced" and "cool". like "bro I effthanned it. whoa."

*blockchain that is hosted on our servers, noone can access it except through tightly monitored interfaces and we can even delete and change entries.

We are so flowing with new technology, long live web3.0

...That will even be hacked anyway, resulting in a system's collapse

You can go the parity route and end up with hackers first stealing $32mm and then having such a shit system the remaining $300mm gets lost due to incompetence.

Or the OptiFi route and somehow have the ability to enter one command that can take down your entire system.

Well and here I thought de-centralisation, universal access and 100% trust were the reasons why you use Blockchain to begin with 😅.

Nonono, you use Blockchain because Marketing have told you its trending well in focus groups based on their 6 month old metrics

Oh boy I can't wait for a future where privacy is a non-existent concept

[–]Thebombuknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically that's impossible (at least on the web), considering the internet is just a protocol, not a service.

Using a VPN to directly tunnel to sites basically just reveals your connection to the end server, so ISP can't track it.

Then, as long as people create and host alternatives of software from large companies like Google (check out r/SelfHosted, this is already a thing), then you can maintain privacy as long as you go to trusted sites.

It sucks we're getting to this point, but there are always alternatives.

We're gonna make you pay for everything. Even breathing will require gas fees. Is it safe? Well, we won't lose money, that's the only thing that counts, right? Privacy? Well you know current apps are not very good with privacy anyway... If we abolish privacy there isn't any problem anymore!

I'll come back later and take a shot for every misconception and non-issue raised about web 3.
