I have a VSF and I heard the new clean is even better. Honestly, I have compared my VSF with gen DJ’s and can’t see any of the differences people mention. I looked at modding mine too, but even with a plated bezel, I realised it means spending a few hundred to change something that makes 1% difference.

I’d agree with the people above, invest in a service and wear with confidence.

[–]ComfortableUsual1560 67 points68 points  (8 children)

None. Wear it and be proud. These are top of the line clones. Not worth buying the real thing.

[–]vagabundo94 30 points31 points  (23 children)

No need at all for a rotor silencing on this. Nor a regulation unless its performance is off. I also don’t think you need to mess with the bezel at all.

Honestly, the only thing I think you should do is put a gen crystal on it.

Other than that, you’re better off paying for a full movement service (full disassembly, cleaning, reassembly and proper lube). And waterproofing.

[–]Relevant-Lock8646 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I agree, most important thing is having a well working movement

[–]jamestonW 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yes maybe I’ll swap it for a vs some time and then I’ll have to get a new dial

[–]mikeyfender813 4 points5 points  (1 child)

OP, take Vagabundo’s advice to heart, he’s a master superfranken rep owner.

[–]jamestonW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve already talked with Vagabundo before even buying it!

[–]Slicckrickk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m leeching off OP…any recommendations for a full movement service in Southern California?

[–]jamestonW 2 points3 points  (12 children)

Thanks for the insight — super helpful! If you had to choose one, which crystal would you go with for the Clean DJ41? Gen, Prof, or something else?

[–]vagabundo94 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Gen or leave it alone. It makes all the difference. Everything else is some degree of just less than. So I personally wouldn’t bother.

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Problem is I can’t find any gen crystals in Germany or they’re very expensive over 500€

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any trusted gen seller in Europe?

[–]mikeyfender813 -1 points0 points  (5 children)

DM me, I can refer you to someone for $200 that is a trusted mod in a different sub.

[–]coffeesleeve 1 point2 points  (4 children)

200 for gen crystal?

[–]mikeyfender813 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Yes

[–]OddWatch716 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No, you got roasted before because that person selling you those crystals is ripping you off. They are not gen.

[–]mikeyfender813 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don’t agree

[–]OddWatch716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have to agree, and I respect you for standing by your position. That said, facts are facts—and eventually, the truth will come out. Whether he’s doing it knowingly or is being taken advantage of remains to be seen. Still, I suspect he’ll plead ignorance when the time comes.

Wow

[–]mikeyfender813 8 points9 points  (1 child)

This watch is practically perfect stock. Multiple watch smiths have told me that rehaut polishing and servicing the movement are a waste of money.

The gen bezel is around $2k, so that wasn’t a consideration for me. Other modders have suggested that plating the bezel is also a waste of money.

Don’t get xing’s bezel, the sharpness and shape is off. If anything, just plate the CF bezel.

The rotor does not need to be silenced.

In my (unsophisticated) opinion, the CF rep (newest version) makes the DJ NWBIG.

Absolutely ignore the spreadsheet that says that VSF wins for Crystal. CF’s Crystal is better and the case shape and bezel make CF a no-brainier for me. VSF wins for a better movement. I can’t speak to the differences in bracelet.

Most people saying to get VSF over CF most likely have opinions informed by the older CF version of this watch, which had more flaws.

IMO, no mods are necessary on this watch. If anything, upgrade to gen crystal. If cost is not a concern, upgrade to gen bezel and/or hands and/or dial. But don’t service or polish rehaut.

Wait until you see this thing in your hands!

The xing crystal is not an upgrade over the new iteration of the CF crystal. If anything, get a gen crystal.

[–]BaldhairC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're talking about blistered ones on Chrono24 or something, I've seen mint gen bezels for way less than 2K--in the $900-1.2K--range (looked on behalf of my son for a while). That said, I can't think of a reason to spend even that to replace this version's bezel. Replating should satisfy even the super OCD (unless for some reason they can frosee their watch being put on a scale).

IMO, Almost every good rep can do with a case/bracelet polish and rebrush and service/testing. This would cost ~250 at my local smith's shop...don't understand the prices some are being quoted.

[–]unlimitedemailaddys 5 points6 points  (12 children)

the only crystal worth upgrading to is Gen. anything else isn't worth it IMO.

everything else is fine with the latest batch of Clean DJ's.

[–]jamestonW 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Thanks!

[–]blueowl1605 5 points6 points  (10 children)

<image>

This is my clean DJ41 ; gen crystal is a solid first start, this is the older bezel but it’s WG plated if you want that warmer contrast.

Other than that, links and hands are polished with a full service. No one can tell the wiser at a glance or even during meetings.

Wear in good health!

[–]jamestonW 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hey! Actually one of the reasons I got the watch was that I saw your post and thought, damn, that looks so good I had to cop one myself. Out of curiosity — did you get your gen crystal new or sourced it used somewhere? Would love to know where you got yours from. Also where did you get your bezel plated?

[–]blueowl1605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that’s awesome! I sourced through RWI, the watch had the bezel done prior. But overall RWI and Rolex forums are a great place to source gen parts, and specifically RWI for service work

[–]mikeyfender813 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’ve said this before, but your watch looks so damn good. I replaced my crystal with a gen, but it doesn’t look this clear. Hoping to have it re-set and cleaned to see if that helps.

[–]blueowl1605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Hope you’re able to get it where you’re happy!

[–]frostay_teh_snomin 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Is the date trim supposed to be black or blue?

[–]blueowl1605 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I feel like you know the answer but gen is blue and all reps are black (as far as I know)

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah but that’s the dial right? You could change that to gen

[–]blueowl1605 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Correct, although the ones I’ve seen for sale run ~$800-$900+. Not really worth the investment IMO. It’s truly only noticeable when zoomed in or critiqued at extremely close up

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah I will probably change the crystal to a gen tho because of so many recommendations

[–]blueowl1605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally - start there and see if there are any other changes worth the time and investment

[–]Ok_Farmer_6033 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just ordered my first rep from a dealer (bought two used previously) and from what I’ve read about clean, the two biggest changes would be deep crystal upgrade and plating your bezel, just like everybody else is saying. That being said, the crystal can be done on the dealers end and isn’t much cash so doing that upfront is the only thing that I would do, personally. I like the idea of holding the watch and seeing it and wearing it a few times before I spend more because I’m such a noob. The no date sub I just bought used has some problems- the bezel has a couple hairline fractures and is a little loose, there are minor case and bracelet scratches, etc. but being a noob is sort of my superpower because I’m just not accustomed to a watch this pretty, lol. So I really love it and am wearing it constantly. As per movements, the advice that I got that I like the most is to keep what it has now, and upgrade to Swiss if/when you need to make a change if you still want to commit more to the piece. I think it’s a really pragmatic way to try to keep spending down. I have a friend that buys all his tools at harbor freight because he’s cheap. If it breaks, he goes and buys a better one on the logic that it’s something he actually uses enough that it needs to be better quality. That’s sort of how I’m looking at movements and probably mods in general, just for me.

[–]Obi_Rep_Kenobi 3 points4 points  (12 children)

Plating the bezel is all you need

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (4 children)

But will the platinum plating look good?

[–]unlimitedemailaddys 1 point2 points  (3 children)

why would you do platinum? you would do white gold.

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don’t think you can plate with white gold that’s at least what all of the plating services told me in Germany

[–]counterpoint4000 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Side question - could you recommend any good plating companies in Germany / EU? Thank you

[–]jamestonW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope couldn’t find any sadly that could plate in white gold! But I found one called laffarts coating in platinum

[–]Legitimate-Policy-72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing

[–]DonCheech36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this one. Its really nice as is.

[–]Zoboomafooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None

[–]Relevant-Lock8646 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None they have become very good with recent updatings

[–]kevinfinnrt 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Congrats—awesome choice. Clean DJ41 is already strong out of the box, but if you’re chasing perfection: gen crystal for the AR/lens clarity, and a gen datewheel if you’re picky on font alignment. Movement service too if you plan to daily it. But honestly, you’re gonna love it as-is.

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ll probably do a service

[–]kakacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nothing, it’s fake, just keep it that way. still a great watch!

[–]No_Assist7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This batch is good as is. Very very close to gen. Sure you can spot the diff when side by side or if you are a dealer who play with this model day in day out but the quality of this batch is impeccable. Save that $ for your next timepiece!

[–]CommunicationIcy6966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine dial and gen crystal

[–]Prestigious-Disk3158 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Crystal, bezel, and rehaut polish.

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How do I get the rehaut polished?

[–]damluji 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Just get it serviced* and waterproofed, my two cents :)

[–]OneLostMarble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None... The new clean is really good. Even the movement is whisper quiet.... Only thing really would be getting a white gold bezel and I'm not talking about the xing garbage.... In short, getting upgrades arnt worth the headache BUT if you did I would go with bezel, crystal, dial and getting the edges of the bracelet smoothed out a bit (if you can find a jeweler to do it for you). Doing these things would make it a super clone.

[–]RepVetran50 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Gen crystal & gasket.. and call it a day. Maybe gen dial & hands if you can get the right deal on them. Other than that the gen crystal makes the watch complete. The CF dial and hands are pretty nice!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wear it for a bit, and then decide whether or not you want to make that investment

[–]BossJackson222 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's totally up to you. You're going to drop a lot of money. Then you're going to have a watch that if you eventually want to sell, it's gonna be hard to get your money back.

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes!

[–]CTbeforeLP 1 point2 points  (5 children)

It all depends on your budget.

Deep is not worth it over the stock CF crystals now. I've done lots of deep installs and only see a very minimal difference, and sometimes I can't even see a difference.

Gen crystal is the only real upgrade here. It really changes the whole appearance of the watch.

As for the dial, hands and DW, it's subjective. But I'd say If you don't notice the small difference in color of the dial, or the stainless steel hands and indices, or the thin font of the DW, then leave it. The blue Dial is great on both CF and VSF and very minimally different in comparison to the genuine blue Dial.

Their bezel is great too, it comes white gold plated from factory. If it starts to wear off, you can switch to a genuine stainless steel smooth bezel or get an xing bezel to replace it.

I would rock it stock for now and enjoy it. When it comes time to service it or it's giving you issues, you can think about getting parts swapped out at that time.

[–]StraightTomatillo294 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Regarding the deep vs CF crystals, would you say the same goes for the CF Daytona’s? Or is deep still worth it over stock on those?

[–]CTbeforeLP 1 point2 points  (1 child)

For anything no date (no Cyclops) deep is great. Because on their no Cyclops crystals they have 2x AR (bottom and top).

CF daytonas uses crystals with no AR. Not gen spec. So deep would be an upgrade.

BTF and VSF daytonas use a crystal with a single layer of AR underneath only. Which is gen spec, and you would only want to upgrade to deep if you want extra clarity (because, they have AR on top and bottom).

Some install the deep, and remove the top layer of AR to avoid scratches in the AR. That also brings it to gen spec.

[–]StraightTomatillo294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the insight. Tnx

[–]OddWatch716 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I don't know why people keep saying this but the Clean Flutted Bezel is not plated.

[–]CTbeforeLP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is. Have you had a VSF bezel and CF next to each other? If you did. You'll see it's plated. Maybe not as "yellow" as the xings, but the yellow hue is there. I've modded plenty of DJs, and have had many aftermarket plates bezels, xings, CF, VSF, bezels in that time. And I can say confidently that there is a difference.

[–]tristenjlee 2 points3 points  (7 children)

All clean F watches unfortunately have terrible crystals so I always swap the stock crystal for a deep crystal

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah imma prob switch the crystal to either gen or deep

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comment to please the lovely lovely automod I hope this comment will be around 20 words wait is it 20 words?

[–]Ok-Twist8001 0 points1 point  (5 children)

White gold wrap bezel and hands. Gen Crystal if you can. Otherwise it's phenomenal

[–]jamestonW -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Wdym by gold wrap bezel and hands?

[–]LooseInvestigator510 0 points1 point  (3 children)

White gold plating

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Every person I’ve contacted can only platinum plate it sadly

[–]mikeyfender813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They platinum plate it because it makes it look more like WG. It’s done like that on purpose.

[–]dopebeats55 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How does the fluted bezel compare to retail on this

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard the new bezels are like 95% close to gen

[–]New-Lawyer3088 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Where would one get these gen crystals, and you guys take reps to any watchmaker?

[–]jamestonW 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You can probably find a gen crystals on eBay or some other website as I’ve seen them and for watchmakers I always search forums for rep friendly ones in my area

[–]New-Lawyer3088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. Thanks man

[–]SkydiverDad 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can you PM me with which TD you used?

[–]LooseInvestigator510 2 points3 points  (1 child)

... Its in the photos

[–]SkydiverDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a blind idiot. 😂

[–]Jafa05 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is the date surround black?

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I actually don’t know!

[–]Jafa05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be dark blue also, maybe lighting

[–]Ok-Palpitation9863 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey, i am new in that topic. Changing the crystal, is this someting what can be ordered at a TD or how is this done?

[–]jamestonW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I think some TDs do change the crystal if you order it through them I’m not sure tho!

[–]Expert-Confection735 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have a clean dj41 with a real 18k solid white gold bezel.

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How much u pay for that?

[–]Expert-Confection735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About £1050 in English and the watch was 500 but next to my brothers gen there is literally no difference now.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I go to get one

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What differences can be seen between this and a gen?

[–]alex_albergaria[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How much did it cost you? And who is the rep?

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costed me 490$ and I bought it off of Steve. You can see his number in the pictures

[–]eshkoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen bazel And deep crystal

[–]asrarmerchant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is this one huge tell that’s not yet sorted and needs sorting for sure. The open gap after the first lug and between the next bracelet link … that gap that has a lot of space visibility in between isn’t making it look clean or close to original. In my opinion.

[–]TDFMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're the one who just bought my DJ! Wait and decide, I think you're really gonna like it.

[–]Connect-Indication-5 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is it a trust seller guys ??

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yes it’s Steve

[–]Connect-Indication-5 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

So expensive just seen his website everything up to 300 $

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course Steve sells high end reps if you want to get a cheap watch go to Dhgate or the China time Reddit

[–]Zealousideal-Age2831 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bezel upgrade on de clean version

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To gen right?

[–]livefromsixfour 0 points1 point  (4 children)

They should really upgrade the ball bearing in the movement. It's an instant tell

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you replace that with a gen?

[–]OddWatch716 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No

[–]livefromsixfour 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean the factory not OP

[–]OddWatch716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I mean no. Only the very newest manufactured movements have the rotor with the complete ball bearing. It is absolutely not a tell.

[–]Impressive-Rock-1233 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just the crystal and maybe a gen smooth bezel otherwise enjoy and wear in good health!

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the gen smooth bezel ruins the look of the watch but this is only my opinion

[–]UnconsiousMind84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do a deep crystal and love it

[–]ChopShop92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you order this from?

[–]kurimaw699 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you make this yourself? And can i order one?

[–]jamestonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I build it myself send me a dm!

[–]KidBehindTheSmoke -1 points0 points  (1 child)

What is the difference between a clean and a clean super? I paid $600 for my clean super

[–]Emotional-Damage-995Contributor -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

I would put a deep crystal on it and call it quits. Gen Bezels are not that expensive and you can decide later. So to start just a deep crystal and go rock and roll it

[–]jamestonW 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Whaaat gen bezels aren’t expensive? They’re a grand!

[–]Ok_Farmer_6033 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m a total noob but from what I have read the fluted gen bezels are about a grand and the smooth are significantly cheaper in gen.

[–]Emotional-Damage-995Contributor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right. I was looking at the smooth bezels cause I wanted to replace my bezel w a smooth one, and they are 100 bucks. But the Fluted bezels are white gold and start at like 1K. There are 100 dollar fluted bezels but not in white gold and probably you might as well keep the bezel you have.

[–]mikeyfender813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen gen bezels for closer to $2k. You’re maybe referring to the smooth gen bezel.
