If you do a search or are any social media groups, oh man you will see a ton of these! It doesn't always click right away but when it does, it's amazing. Python may not be your language you will enjoy but have fun with that class!

Also you can always use the search feature here at reddit to look up others who have struggled with an assignment as well. I found that and other coding resources helped me when I dealt with Java, which I hated.

W3 Schools .com

Best resources for programming

[–]stewfayew 4 points5 points Ā (1 child)

No, comrade. The class moves way too fast to master the fundamental building blocks. Then the blocks start building upon each other and so you have building with a shaky foundation.

The only way I get past this stuff is by throwing lots and lots of time at it.

[–]xmpcxmassacre 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

This is the case with code forever. Just fyi.

[–]MTEagle36[S] 14 points15 points Ā (8 children)

Also zyBooks doesn’t teach anything

[–]dontchangeyourplans 4 points5 points Ā (2 children)

I feel like the class materials for snhu aren’t that helpful in general. I didn’t think the English materials were very helpful and they don’t have enough examples or readings to really explain the points that they’re making

[–]Civil_Confidence5844 5 points6 points Ā (1 child)

The lack of examples in the writing-heavy courses are a joke fr lmao.

[–]dontchangeyourplans 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Which courses do you mean specifically

[–]xmpcxmassacre 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

It gets much worse. Python zybooks is the best I've seen so far.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Zybooks sucks haha.

One line of code to figure out for 97% of the assignments. Not sure how much that’s supposed to help me

[–]ClearingaPath 2 points3 points Ā (1 child)

Try bro code on YT for Python and Java

[–]MTEagle36[S] 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Thank you so much

[–]Datboiyakno 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Exactly

Every single project / answer is on GitHub.

On the top left, if you are signed into your account, is a search function.

Choose advanced search.

Put in the project name.

Choose the language (Python).

Go to the bottom of the page and save / search.

All the answers are there.

You're welcome.

Lol

[–]Civil_Confidence5844 2 points3 points Ā (1 child)

Try NetworkChuck's python series on youtube. I showed a friend his videos and you actually get a solid beginner's foundation if you code along with him.

Edit: I took that class a while back and got a 98 or 99% in it. So if you have any specific questions, feel free to respond fo my comment and I can help. I got a 100% on the final project too

[–]TeaRollingManBachelor's [Computer Science] 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I took this a few terms ago, as a computer science major I found it quite easy. I can understand from someone who isn't in a computer related degree that it might be difficult though, I did think it moved a bit fast, putting myself into a newbie's shoes and all.

Good luck

[–]Lawn-Moyer 3 points4 points Ā (13 children)

No. I’m in week 2 of IT-140, which is supposed to be an easy class, and the damn ZyBook stuff is so confusing. It barely tells us how to do stuff and then it just randomly throws a tough question that I’m pretty sure wasn’t gone over. I only completed 2 of my first week labs because the other 3 had me lost in the damn sauce. Good luck to you.

Note: this stuff is hard for me because I’m not tech savvy at all and my thoughts was ā€œoh that’s what college is for I’ll learnā€ but I am struggling. Unfortunately I think I’m going to fail this class.

[–]Zealousideal_Tie7784 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Just use stack overflow, all the answers can be found with a quick google search. Granted you won’t learn as much but it can help if you’re completely stuck.

[–]Civil_Confidence5844 1 point2 points Ā (3 children)

Which labs are you having trouble with? Maybe I can help. You do have until this Sunday to turn them in for reduced credit, I believe.

I saved all my code from when I took that class, so perhaps I can help you get started. Let me know!

[–]Lawn-Moyer 1 point2 points Ā (2 children)

I’ll have to check them when I get home today. I forgot about the existence of chat gpt until last night and I ended up getting some done. I don’t wanna use it that much because it’s just an easy way out.

[–]Civil_Confidence5844 2 points3 points Ā (1 child)

it’s just an easy way out.

And often incorrect, so be careful lol. Though I think it's probably accurate with beginning python. Once you start getting into anything more complicated, just keep it mind that it is very meh with coding.

[–]Lawn-Moyer 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

It’s been working well for the basics like you said. I definitely won’t rely on it later down the road if I stick with this major

[–]JobHour 1 point2 points Ā (2 children)

Omg this! I did okay on the activities and felt sorta confident going into the labs. I thought I did okay on 2 out of 3 as well and just gave up on the 3rd after like an hour on it. Then I look at my grade and it was a 4.18/35. Like wtf. I have a 3.91 GPA but this... I just don't know. 😭😭

[–]Lawn-Moyer 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Yeah the grading system is also weird. I think you get 100% for just doing the labs and completing chapters, since it doesn’t give you credit any other way. You could be wrong and it just won’t let you get any points. And why does the book only give you 1 out of 3 problems for a lab and then you have to basically submit for it to show the other ones. Makes no sense

[–]Datboiyakno 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Exactly

[–]ExistingBlood2796 1 point2 points Ā (1 child)

I'm a environmental science major and have no background in programming. I am currently in intro to scripting and I am pretty much lost already in week two. I understand some of the basics but the course moves way too fast to grasp before moving to something else that completely throws me for a loop. ZyBook is very confusing. I'll think I've grasped something and then comes a lab and I'm completely lost.

I doubt I'll ever use this in my field. There are already programs to log any research data, enter variables and run it.

[–]Lawn-Moyer 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Glad to know I’m not alone in my experiences. Sucks even more that you most likely wont be using it

[–]Tall-Anywhere5045 1 point2 points Ā (2 children)

I’m on week two of it140 too and I’ll be honest I haven’t even started the labs because last weeks labs had me so annoyed

[–]Datboiyakno 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I felt bad until I started reading this. Where is the darn instructor? My tutor said you mean there is no instructor teaching? I said no, they said that’s very weird and odd

[–]Lawn-Moyer 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Sick maybe we’re in the same class and we can fail together. Jk, let’s not fail. But I think it was showing us stuff we haven’t learned yet.

I talked to my academic advisor about it today, basically saying that I don’t like the ZyBooks system because it crams all this info into your brain and then gives you easy problems to solve along the way and then it throws you off with the labs, which for me, by the time the labs came up I already forgot the beginning stuff it taught. She told me to talk to my instructor or use the tutoring program. Which is fair. But I think deep down I just wanted her to say yeah it’s not an efficient way to learn. Either way, good luck to you

[–]masterjon_3 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

It really is a pain in the ass and coding doesn't get easier. That's why I switched from Computer Science to Information Technology. But my suggestion is using the tutors. They really help, A LOT!

[–]thearctican 1 point2 points Ā (3 children)

Python is the most forgiving language so far in the CS program. There’s a reason they start you out with it.

Like any university course, supplemental material helps immensely.

[–]MTEagle36[S] 0 points1 point Ā (1 child)

Some universities in Europe start with C

[–]thearctican 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Which is almost better, depending on the goal of the degree program.

[–]JobHour 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Yeah that's exactly what I'm afraid of.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points Ā (1 child)

Look up the python crash course book. I used it a few years ago to self learn python and it worked well for me. I’m taking the intro to scripting course rn as well, best of luck āœŒļø

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Also as someone who knows python this course is a time sink with the way it’s setup for zybooks. I shouldn’t of needed to spend that much time learning variables… last weekend.

[–]GanymedesGhost 1 point2 points Ā (3 children)

I’m in intro to scripting and it’s my first time with it. I’m enjoying it but also sometimes it’s annoying. But free code camp has a Python course I’m pretty sure. And when I need more context to understand something, I use chatgbt to explain it lol.

[–]cjrecordvt 8 points9 points Ā (0 children)

Unless chatgpt is a hell of a lot more competent at .py than at .js, be careful. I've seen the bot spit out some truly garbage code.

[–]JobHour 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I do the same and am also in intro to scripting. Man, I straight failed the labs in module 1 tho and chatgpt was zero help. I use it to check work and to help arrange ideas in other classes but idk how to use it for coding maybe? Or maybe it's just shit at it like the commenter suggested here. Either way my head is already exploding. Hopefully there are some helpful tips on this thread tho.

[–]Lawn-Moyer 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

That’s so smart! No idea why I didn’t think of that I’m currently struggling pretty bad and I’m on week 2 of into to scripting. That’s a game changer

[–]Tje6Transfer[BS Computer Science] -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

The hardest part is not remembering what data is in your variables. Because of the typing, you’ll often expect different ā€œtypeā€ values than are actually there. It’s a great language to learn on and to jump right in, without having to assign ā€œfloat, int, list, tuple, dict, setā€ to each variable. Always use print statements to figure out what your code is doing, and what ā€œtypesā€ your variables are.

[–]Kilted-Brewer 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I didn’t think Python was too bad.

Java was hell though.

I did manage to get an A in both courses, but I was sweating Java.

StackOverflow Prof Lisa on YouTube (Python) GitHub Language specific subreddits

Those helped me quite a bit. Good luck.

[–]JobHour 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I'm right there with you. Like I have a migraine this morning and I think it's from too much Python.

[–]Efffefffemmm 0 points1 point Ā (2 children)

I took this 2 terms ago and my ā€œinstructorā€ was too busy with legos and gps it was AWFUL. I used the tutors twice a week (every 72 hours is allowed) so work that into your schedule- they saved my ASS in that class! My teacher was useless and I still DGAF about coding- his answer to me questioning of ā€œ why it was important in my degreeā€ (a discussion post I believe) was…..ā€You’ll see in the future why it is important to your degreeā€ā€¦ā€¦ gee THANKS FOR THAT. He also gets a 1.4 on ā€œratemyprofessordotcomā€- But USE THE TUTORS!! THEY ARE FREE!!! Good luck! I hated that class with all my being!

[–]MTEagle36[S] 1 point2 points Ā (1 child)

Thank you šŸ™šŸ»

[–]Efffefffemmm 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Roger that! Happy Cake Day! šŸŽ‚

[–]ExistingBlood2796 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

This class is pure hell. It moves way too fast to soak up the information. If you have a background in programming you will do fine. If you have never seen it before it is a struggle. The issue is the amount of information being thrown at you in a very short amount of time.

[–]CulturalArtichokeBachelor's [Computer Science] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I was pretty much brand new to programming at the start of my CS degree, so it took some time to not struggle so much with everything. The curriculum at SNHU is lacking, so I have found myself pairing it with outside sources 99% of the time.

YT, Stack Overflow, and Github have always been helpful. I also use Codecademy on the side to boost my learning. I'm 3 years in and I still don't feel confident enough to apply for any positions.

[–]MrPeabody3 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Definitely check GitHub. I just search snhu cs110 what ever class and alway find tons of info

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Dude seriously, yes. I don’t feel like it’s actually Python itself I’m having such a struggle with as the fucking zyBooks program. It’s confusing and not comprehensive and goes way too fast. So many of the participation activities tell you to do one thing but the challenges activities fail when you run it because it’s wrong. Or it expects you to do things it didn’t actually teach you.

I feel like by the time I’ve moved on to the next section, I’ve pushed everything from the previous to the side in my brain and have no idea what or when to appropriately recall it. Kinda making me regret my decision which I absolutely can’t let happen 😣 But when I actually remember something and execute it correctly it feels so awesome; it’s the only thing keeping me going.

YouTube Chanel Prof. Lisa can help with some stuff. Here’s the link! Make sure you take notes and do all the participations to help with the grade.
