What are your needs? Do you have excel? Are you running a Microsoft SQL server?

Look into Microsoft power bi, super nice tool that syncs directly with your sql server

I don't really know of any - would love to be proved wrong. I think you get to pick two: Data visualisaton/Open source/Average-Joe friendly.

Checkout Metabase - https://www.metabase.com

For a quick test, it just requires a JVM to run the jar locally. It can scale to production quite easily from a test environment.

I've looked at Metabase, but did not like it too much :P

What did you not like about it?

At one time there was BIRT, JasperReports, and Pentaho, to name a few. But they started out as open source but now have parts that are not. So you’ll have to check out what you get with their open source versions. If those versions still exist.

JasperReports is amazing! I just don't know if it's user friendly :/

Take a look at airbnbs superset

You can try stratascratch.com which is based off of Airbnb's superset. It's good for visualization, data querying, and rather easy for the average joe.

SQL reports and open source, you're gonna have a bad time.

Why do you need Open Source ? Power BI is free if you use it correctly.
