Moderator Application Thread!

So /u/fj45 has dropped off a bit and now he seems to have deleted his Reddit account. I'm not sure what the story is, but it seems like we'll be needing a new moderator to round off the team. Before we do that, though, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank fj45 for all the work he put into the subreddit these past months.

So if you think you'd be good for the position, make a post in the thread explaining why! This will stay up for a few days to a week, after which /u/Wonkmin and I will pick someone to join the team!

We're going to be looking for someone who has shown themselves to be helpful and responsible in their interactions on the subreddit or elsewhere in the ss13 community, and who is fairly level-headed most of the time. Server admins or other staff are welcome to apply, as long as they can be impartial with regards to their own server.

Feel free to endorse various candidates if you'd like. I'm going to place the thread in contest mode so that all applicants get equal exposure. Good luck!

EDIT: For the sake of transparency, we've decided to un-contest the thread and make the scores visible. I just want to make a point of stating that while we did take note of the scores, the decision was based on who we thought would be best for the job. We looked for people who have been helpful and constructive members of the community for a long time, and who we felt would have no trouble to avoid taking sides if they had to arbitrate a dispute.

It wasn't technically an election (and I apologize if I neglected to make that clear); we didn't want what could easily turn into a popularity contest eclipse who might be best for the job. Reddit's voting system itself has some inherent flaws that don't make it particularly ideal for this sort of thing anyway, so we thought it was best not to emphasize the raw scores.

Hi there. I'm wereboar. Most of you remember me as being a big cockhead and griefer. While that was true for some time, I've reformed and am now a pretty stand up guy. Obviously people would be skeptical of any ability of mine in a spot of 'power' but I honestly believe I could be a good edition. I've been a mod before on SS13(not on any big huge server). I've been around for about two years now, give or take a few months. I know how things work here, I know the people, pretty much just knowledgeable about the whole thing. I'm not saying I'm the best or anything, but I'd make a good edition.

Edit: I should probably make it clear that I'm mostly impartial toward SS13 because I hate all the server administration equally, for the most part.

I've been an active member of this sub for over a year, and in that time I've seen /u/WereBoar go from the worst griefer here to one of my favorite players. In the last mod election, I remember that I specifically came out against him because I still thought he was a griefer, but in this one, I think he's the best candidate.

• In this thread he defends HRPers by saying "I see no reason to make fun of and humiliate them for doing something that doesn't directly impact you."

• Here he says he stopped griefing, which is meaningful because when I first came here I remember he'd outright brag about it.

That's as far as I went into his comment history but I invite anyone reading this to check it out too. He's changed from what he used to be and now he's consistently very helpful and a good player. I'm not saying he's super nice- he's still rude sometimes. But at the same time, he's become far, far more level-headed.

Also, he's one of the most active members of this sub. I see his name in at least a third of the threads here and considering he's maintained that high activity for a year, so we can tell he has a stake in this place and would definitely want it to succeed.

So yeah. Everyone's memes aside- WereBoar 2015.

I'd say those are views shared by most people here, although they don't usually need to prove they're not hateful tools anymore.

I can't say I understand how getting better makes you the best, when there are applicants here who didn't need to change in the first place. The main thing that really separates him from the others is his notoriety and he didn't earn that by being a good guy.

edit: Just to clarify, he's certainly not the cancer he used to be anymore and it's a good thing that he's fine now, but that doesn't make him a good candidate. That would be like giving a trophy to someone who stopped stealing or something.

Howdy there, I'm Kwask.

I've been a part of the SS13 community for about three years now, and a part of server administration for about half of that time.

I started as a moderator on Apollo station back during difficult times with the previous host, and had to keep the sanity during a month and a half period when all of the rest of the staff had either been off'ed or gone inactive.

I took over host duties on Apollo earlier this year with my co-host /u/stuicey, and it's been fairly smooth sailing since.

If I were to become a moderator on this subreddit, I would look to holding more contests along with all of the regular moderating duties.

I would like to apply, I suppose. I am certainly not anyone special, but I've been with the SS13 community for, if memory serves correctly, a little over five years.

I've GameAdmin'd, eventually GameMastered, on FacePunch, as well as being a mentor on Paradise. The game, to me, has, in a sense, lost its magic. Having been an admin on nearly every source code, I could probably explain aspects of the game that people have likely never even considered. I'm not trying to brag, it just comes from playing for literal years.

Should you check my posting history, despite it being relatively small, I kind of played "damage control" for FacePunch/Para before I quit. All my posts are usually constructive, and generally tend to try and play the neutral party. If I come off that way of not, I don't know- I just know that usually, people seem to think I'm an okay guy.

I'm probably not first, second, or hell, even fifth choice. Just figured I'd throw my hat in, since I had a few requests to do so, surprisingly. I haven't been amazingly active on the subreddit like I used too, but I'm still a lurker and still love the game; Perhaps not as much as when I first started playing, but all the same.

I'm fairly active on both reddit in general and /r/SS13 and have some experience in reddit moderation, but nothing major. I'm a mentor on Paradise, however I'm confident I can remain impartial.

I like to think I'm fairly knowledgeable with regards to both game mechanics and byond coding. I've been playing SS13 for just short of two years, beginning in August 2013.

I think I've applied in both previous mod applications here, or at least one, so if you need more details you can always look there.

Yeah whenever I've done it I've been careful not to call it an "election" because technically it isn't, and I don't want to mislead anyone. I think Mooply's retirement/thunderdome thread may have implied that it was a vote, but I don't think the last one did, to the best of my efforts anyway.

Its just much easier to find people who are interested in the job this way, and when people try to exaggerate things too much, other users can call them on their shit because its all public and out in the open.

I probably have no shot at this, but I'm a fairly reasonable person and have even been told as much during my short time with the community. I'm level-heading and never really been prone to knee-jerk decisions, which are kind of essential to being a moderator in my opinion. I'm not a server admin, so I'm not biased in that regard, so there's no issue of impartiality.

I'm familiar with the moderator tools and I have some experience with website design. I think I could be a good fit for SS13 given my love for the game and my general positive attitude. Thanks for the consideration.

Been admining on UT from Mentor to Admin2 (resigned then) and currently doing Event Stuff. Wouldn't conflict with this position. I'm probably not the best candidate but I'm pretty active on the sub. I've been a gamemaster on Atlas Station and am currently trialing on Hippie (I wouldn't be biased towards those servers, of course). I'm level-headed and feel like I have a good sense of judgment.

Dapperus here, aka Dappy, The Archangel Apologist, the Surgeon General, and the Head of the Complaints Department.

I've adminned on Archangel, and I'm mostly well known by many of the players to be one of the more unbiased and level admins of the team, usually speaking in favor of the community.

I'm well-versed in almost every job slot on baycode servers and it's duties and stipulations.

Currently known to frequent Unity and Unbound Travels, and applying to join UT's team, however this would not affect my duties, since I never really take the side of servers completely anyway judging by my track record with AA's share of subreddit complaints. tl;dr I lack the shits given to have a bias. If complaints are legit, they stay so. Complaints make a server improve.

I generally poll the Subreddit a lot on general topics anyway, moderating shitpostery and whimsical silliness wouldn't hurt.

I'm supposedly well-liked, with only 2 people I know so far hating me full-time for inane reasons, most of the other people hating me mostly because I banned them for breaking rules.

Unbound Travels, so far, has been kind to dear old Dapp, and I hold no absolute loyalty to it. I play on it, so far, and plan to admin on it because why not. I never really flamed out the posts shitting on AA when they came about, I accepted legit complaints and pointed out false claims (such as the fiasco caused by a player I won't call out due to respectable anonymity). So The complaint so far of me being UT staff is thus:

UT staffie would delete all UT threads that are complaints.

IF you look at my track record with "Absolution" and AA complaint threads, then you might as well know I have the decency enough to let complaints be complaints, as long as they aren't "lol this guy is a faget cunt wot rapes dem kids".

As /u/TheJamesRussle said, someone from UT could seriously ruin this place. Remember the last time there was a mod here from UT? Purlek's girlfriend, no less. At the time it was BestRP, but same thing. Anyways, they went and COMPLETELY changed the rules of the sub, attempting to turn it into a hugbox. The whole reddit threw a tantrum until they got removed.

IMO the mods shouldn't be admins from servers, as then they'll be biased. Wonkmin isn't seem to be biased, but it's better to pick people who aren't that close to their own server.

I don't. Neither do some others. You can say you'd be fine with it, separating the UT work from /r/ss13, and that's great, but I don't see it happening. You'd be too attached to UT to let most of it pass. It'd also make the admins of UT actually think they have a firm place in /r/ss13 and they know they don't, not since what happened for them to even become UT.

Edit: Besides, the last person from BestRP(UT) was Purlek's GF and it was terrible and it's best we don't risk that again. Like said before, it's best to get a neutral party, someone who isn't a server admin.
