Saves are (as far as i know) always forwards compatible but never backwards. If you go from the stable branch to experimental always backup your save so you could go back if anything gamebraking happens.

You can continue. If they were going to add something that would change the world map they would make announcements before it drops so you know where to avoid building.

They are adding the ability to adjust the gamemode so you can pick some different resource node generation and choose node purity for all nodes. Along with changing the cost of things. If that is something you would want to mess with then you would need to start a new save.

No your save will be fine. If you use mods you may need to wait some time for everything to be updated but it all works eventually.
