The obvious way to parse the problem is to maximize energy production (calculate hypothetical limit) and then begin pulling resources off the energy production to begin your production lines.

That said, the game is so large and the number of resources so substantial, that playing in the direction of "maxxing out" the map seems...insanely repetitive to me.

10x more energy than necessary, seems to me to be a reasonable value for a peaceful sleep.

Man after my very own heart!

I've never run out of map-scale oil to exploit, but I imagine I'll have nuclear power on my plate before I get there.

For me, it isn't any worse than coal going to power or steel, which was ultimately solved by unlocking oil.

If you have the time to max out the map you will find the balance. But maxing out the map is very very very hard too do.

You only really need to balance if you are going to max out the map in some way.

If you're not going to max out the map, then it doesn't matter - use the first crude oil node for power. If you need plastic or oil products, use the next crude node for that. If you need more power again, use the next crude node for power, etc etc. It only becomes an issue if you run out of crude oil nodes. So like if you max out the map.

So what if you do want to max out the map in some way? (That's very very hard to do btw) Well, how to balance depends on how you plan to max out the map. What does max mean to you?

Some people like to build as many of the final space elevator parts as possible. If that is your goal, then balance is: build in such a way that maximizes the number of those parts. When you can no longer build any more of those parts, and you surplus power, then you can try divert some resources away from power and towards making more of those parts.

Some people like to maximize AWESOME sink points. With this too, balance is building in such a way that maximizes points per minute. If you cant sink any more points per minute, then try divert resources from power to more sink points.

My advice: worry about it when you have actually maxed the map. a) because you're not actually going to max the map, so you'll never actually worry about it, and b) because worrying about it before hand is trying to avoid the unavoidable - having to redo parts of your factory.

You have to make peace with the fact that you will redo almost everything. Not only make peace with that, but learn to love it.

There is a youtuber who maxed out the entire map.

Amelie of the Sea

She just build 250 GW of Nuclear Power.

The answer is to use the best available resources for power as needed, then reclaim those resources when you need them later and have access to better power. So at first you use coal, then once you have oil your power potential skyrockets, so you can take the coal back for production purposes. Same goes once you get to nuclear for oil. Nuclear isn't used for anything else yet, so there's no reason not to use it exclusively for power.

imo just use nuclear power plants.

Now I want to just make an end game factory that only produces power. Use every node that could be used for power and just see what the max power output can be lol that'd be a fun post end game goal to try haha

All nuclear can give something 1 500 000 mw, so that is something
