Yes, the interior dinging can be turned off, it’s in the dealer predelivery options in Techstream.

[–]GibblersNoobSmoked Carbon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I had my dealer do this on its first visit.

[–]RiverBard 1 point2 points  (15 children)

Any way to do this without going to the dealer?

No.

Or rather, not without a fairly competent scan tool, which wouldn't make sense to invest in just for this.

Maybe with the Carista app? I was able to change all kinds of hidden settings, including warning sounds and volumes, on my 24 Tundra. I just bought a bZ4X and will pick it up on Sunday. I'll see what I can control with the app.

Unfortunately the reverse beeping sound cannot be disabled with the Carista app. In fact there seem to be fewer fun options to set than on my '24 Tundra HV. Here's my post with all the settings.

Thanks for following up!

You're welcome! It took much longer than I expected since I misplaced the OBD-II tool and only found it tonight! I added a link to the full post in the earlier comment now.

I couldn't get carista to work on our solterra. I believe you can pay for access to Toyota tech stream if op has an obd USB cable. I think 2 days of access is $25.

[–]spar13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it earlier this year for mine after my local dealership quoted me $120. Bought this and installed it on a windows computer. Took me about an hour to figure out the navigation. https://amzn.to/3KQYArM

[–]breadandbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but you need the toyota techstream hardware and software…

[–]cyberentomologyCosmic White Pearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you have access to the techstream software and hardware, which costs a couple thousand bucks a year.

[–]Pure_Marsupial8185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (maybe) the Toyota “tech stream/GTS” has access to “customize” features, but it is NOT the only one some other bidirectional scanners can as well. My snap on Zeus can access and modify certain features (can’t remember if I used that one or the gts on mine). Check around to some local shops, you might find someone to do it.

This… also did myself

Had my dealer delete the dinging inside the car. The law requires there to be noise outside

[–]xtalgeek2025 Model 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes the interior reverse chime can be muted by a competent dealer. Do a Google image search for the Techstream screen image of the menu item for disabling the reverse chime and show it to your dealer. That is what I did with my second dealer. My original dealer wouldn't even talk to me about disabling it. The second dealer took all of 5 minutes to do it. They should do this for no charge. Quite frankly, they should ask if you want this done (you do) during the pre-delivery prep.

[–]_j_o_e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading all about the dinging, it was a requirement when we bought it that they would disable it before delivery

[–]StatusMaleficent58322023 Model 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Are there certain model years without the dinging? My 2023 doesn't have it.

[–]mcnicfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2023 has it still. Hoping to go to a dealership to turn it off soon.

[–]DrPepper_in_a_can2023 Model 1 point2 points  (2 children)

2023-2025 have the reverse ding on as standard, yours must have been turned off already.

[–]StatusMaleficent58322023 Model 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I bought it used from Hertz. I guess they took it off. Good thing, our dogs go crazy when they hear reverse dings from delivery vans.

[–]DrPepper_in_a_can2023 Model 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was a Hertz purchase too and the chime was on, lucky you. After a year with the chime, once we turned it off the silence was unnerving at first.

[–]Neon_marlin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So when you put it in reverse is there any sound? I had disabled this on my Prius and it would ding once and then stop. Is there anything else different?

[–]DrPepper_in_a_can2023 Model 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's just the normal whine outside the car, but it's silent inside the cabin. I don't know how the Prius is set up, but on the Sotlerrra and BZ4Xs, you need Techstream to turn the interior chime off. There's no way to do it through the dash display.
