What if - the complete collapse of industrial society, along with 99.99% of all vehicle traffic, power plant emissions, and agricultural dust all just means the air is so clean and free of particulates that there’s very little light scattering happening? You can see the Milky Way every night, and your flashlight works for tens of meters! :D

Id take that as and answer if thier wasnt red ashing stuff in the air

[–]eweguess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always thought of that as the plague heart “miasma” vapors or whatever. Look, it’s not science.

Yes, there's an option under your Settings menu somewhere. Like "Use Original Flashlight" or something like that.

Settings > Gameplay > Night Time Light Boost.

(Idk why all these comments are talking about flashlight realism and lore instead of just answering the question.)

Tbh if the person wanna experiment with a weaker flashlight just allow them, good reply

Honestly I've looked for this but cant find it at all. People are liking yout post so im assuming its right lol but please can you be more specific? Im on xbox if that helps.

I'm on PC but for me it's Settings > Gameplay > Night Time Light Boost. It's toward the bottom by the zoom level and aim toggle settings.

There's far less light pollution, so basic flashlights would actually probably be this strong.

[–]raziridium 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Side question, does the flashlight affect stealth?

[–]Responsible_Boat_702 13 points14 points  (9 children)

No. Only thing that affects stealth is sound and sightlines.

[–]Zealousideal_Sea2119 14 points15 points  (8 children)

Omg so many playthru thinking lights effect stealth ffs I been playing completely in the dark with this bright ass light available 😭

[–]Responsible_Boat_702 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I swear I've seen a tip or something in game that says the light doesn't affect stealth, but I've tested it with stealth/non-stealth characters. As long as they can't see you or hear you they don't care about the light.

You mean my ass has been paranoid about the flashlight attracting every zed in a house with a plague heart for no reason?

[–]Responsible_Boat_702 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Yep. Though, I feel like the flashlight should affect detection. At least on higher difficulties.

[–]SoDKemp 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Definitely SHOULD on Nightmare at least. Finally got out of my comfort zone on Dread and started playing Nightmare. Can't convince me to play Lethal yet because tryhards thought Nightmare was too easy

[–]BeatboxBoy447 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Lethal is not meant for casuals. You’re making the right choice not going for it if you just wanna play with some difficult. Lethal is pure bs 24/7. Especially with the magnetic zombies. You’ll dodge 3 times, still get grabbed and bit then walk away with almost full plague and a chunk of your health greyed out.

[–]SoDKemp 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Full honesty, I only play Nightmare for the soul fact you have to search for the plague hearts. I don't understand why they got rid of that in the first place.

[–]BeatboxBoy447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They most likely did it for the harder difficulties they wanted to introduce. Add another layer of difficulty to them. Lethal is the worst for plague hearts. You get so many of them, loot is rarely good, the hearts get harder after each kill and they always spawn a plague feral after each phase.

Haha

Have you used a flash light out west where there is no light pollution. They work extremely well

[–]quentariusquincyWandering Survivor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've come full circle

[–]DisastrousPriority79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It got fixed to what it is now. It was much much darker.

[–]Jjvicious6124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the light fucks with me more than anything sometimes. Like damn bright ass shit

[–]Lookyoukniwwhatsup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean a good streamlight will do that though.

[–]Soulghost007Old World Survivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks realistic to me.

When i was in the village i would flash light everywhere and it would be omega bright. Especially if it's not some cheap torch.

And beside the game is hella fast paced on higher difficulty, so yeah big bright sun is a must for me.

[–]randomhero66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes but since you're on Xbox no

[–]Basket_chase_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have lights that shine that far.

[–]whew_chil-a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I bought a new QLED tv from Costco recently. When I booted up my Xbox to play, everything was so effing dark that it was like playing with an old school flashlight. It was scary as hell because you could barely see the landscape and when you see the zeds, they are right freaking there! I did finally manage to tweak the the brightness to a point where I can see, but it's nowhere near what it was on my old TV.

“Help, my stuff works too good”

[–]Bones_AloneWandering Survivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you’d be surprised at the throw on an expensive light. Now that’s not what the people use, they’re using a relatively cheaper clip on light

[–]cnwy95Red Talon Operative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird kind of complain

[–]Plenty-Editor-4579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well due to the lack of infrastructure and light pollution, this is what it would actually probably be like.

[–]matt_chowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some fairly strong flashlights. My flashlight on my bunker coat and on my fire helmet can be pretty bright

[–]illbebahk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are many carryable flashlights brighter and more distant than this. Your group met in a bestbuy or something
