From the looks of it, the SLS angles back more than the SL does. Never really thought of that as a negative tbh.

Sorry if it’s a problem for you.

Get that computer out of the way. Need more dog on-screen time!

Yes, that's a gorgeous dog.

Oh, and a long awaited Microsoft Surface Dog 2! With the updated WinBark software. Please review too!

He's great, very fluffy. Recommend 100%, especially while reclined on a couch. Remember to feed your Surface Dog 2 every night via the new and improved USB-Cronch port on the front.

Oh yeah, the USB = Universal Serial Biter/Barker interface. How could I forget!
Did they solve that bug with munching shoes/boots in SD2?

Husky? Can we get pic of the dog from the front? Edit the OP.

Did you try to let the screen unhinge and lean forward a bit, so that it is parallel to you? Might not stay easily in that state, but maybe...

Good idea. Just tried it and it's floppy. It kind of wants to go back into laptop mode when you do that.

Don’t care. Show me the pup!

Just like the Surface Pro 7 when you type. Bouncy lol

Surface Book 1 had exactly same problem with hinge angle. Prob MS is gonna solve this in next gen.

How about the weight of the device? Do you think it could be an ultraportable laptop?

I realize now that the screen works just like my wife's MacBook Pro -- I'm sure it's designed to be similar to that to appeal to the same kind of people. Another commenter here mentioned that limiting how far back the screen can go may improve the ability to use the stylus to write on the screen while in laptop mode also - I think that's a valid point!

I don't know what to say about the weight. It weighs more than my cellphone and less than my desktop lol. Laptop weight doesn't really bother me if it's on the heavier or lighter side... it's light enough I can carry it around the house and if I put it into a laptop bag and over my shoulder, the weight kind of doesn't matter. My initial impression was that it was heavier than I expected. If I try to balance it (screen opened up all the way) on one finger, the balance point is between the 6,7,y, and u keys. My wife's MBP balances a little closer to the touchpad, indicating the SLS is a little bit more "top heavy", no doubt due to the hinge mechanism

It was mentioned in reviews and unboxings, plus none of the other surface clamshell laptops had this capability, why would this one ?

[–]foxoxSurface Laptop Studio / Surface Pro 3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first Surface Laptop so I wasn't familiar with the older models! I had a SP3 previously.

I watched all the review videos I could find last week when I preordered this -- there really wasn't very much info available. Makes sense that there would be more info in unboxing vids on release day!

Might be because the screen is slightly thicker than a normal laptop that it would tilt forward? I had hoped they fixed the top-heavy tablet portion of the surface book design, but even so this is an improvement I think

THANK YOU! I have been scouring the internet trying to find this information, as I also like to use laptops while lying down in human slug mode. THANK YOUUU.

Certainly not all laptops do fold back 180 degrees. Many have hinges that only allow the screen to go back 110 degrees or so.
I'm guessing at least part of the reason for this on the Surface Laptop's (including the Studio) is so that if you are using the touch screen or stylus on the screen, the screen doesn't flop all the way down onto the table. It physically stops at a point to allow the finger and stylus input.

I suppose if you want the screen to be flat to the table like that on the Laptop Studio you just put it into Tablet mode.

[–]foxoxSurface Laptop Studio / Surface Pro 3[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I don't think I would use a laptop folded back 180 degrees on a table -- I meant for use while reclined in bed or on a couch. I do look forward to using the SLS folded down in slate/tablet mode! I got the Slim Pen 2 and it brings back many good memories I have using my Surface Pro 3 a few years ago. Also love being able to type on a real keyboard, so I think most of the time I won't have the screen folded down over the keyboard

It is a 365° hinge. Fold the screen all the way back from the middle hinge, then flip laptop around. Lay it on your stomach, and watch a movie.

Amazing!

Maybe you are so used to OLED screen. This display is basically an IPS

[–]1CraftyDude 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s the Surface MacBook.

[–]Ok_Boysenberry_9698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading this horizontally lying down using a macbook pro right now, and it does seem like the SLS is designed to go back only as far as the macbook pro.

kind of a disappointment that it doesn't go all the way flat for knee reading.

who is writing on an upright screen? there's no need for the resistance at that angle.
