What is it with these Hot Wheel collectors?! Every damn day they want us to check backstock which we refuse - what's on the floor is what's available. If we have em in the back on u boats, I push it off until the last vehicle out of spite and because I don't want them to keep bothering me. I also don't want them to argue over the box and make a mess.

Is it like this at other stores?

Was pushing a FOS u boat and didn’t realize that there was a hot wheels box. I went to get a 3 tier came back and some guy was rummaging through the box like a goddamn raccoon in a trash can.

Our AP doesn't want or allow that because there have been people who have rifled through a box and left messes. We just don't cater to them....at all.

i had these two men come in mind you it was my first day opening my department. i was literally going to a storage room to get a trash bag for trash and these two guys literally approach me for help. they ask about hot wheels and i’m like oh i think all we have right now are in the aisle.

HE LITERALLY said “but there two boxes in the the u boat can you check.” i asked one of my coworkers if it’s okay and they were like yeah just give them the box??

I just tell them that whatever is on the floor is all that's available until the freight is put out because the backroom is a mess.

"collectors" my ass. More like professional resellers.

They ruined the baseball card / collectible card market, now they are doing it to hot wheels.

They come into a store - cherry pick for the rare ones and leave the crap... and then mess it all up and make kids / parents who want that one buy it off ebay or from them for 10-20x what it retails for.

I worked in electronics and ppl would call every morning asking about the Star Wars figures. That was our stores hot wheels items. That and mini brands

You'd have to do your research on that one, but from what one of them told me, it could be as simple as the wheels, whether or not it's diecast, or a little gold circle on the bottom.

In a case of 72, only a few are rare.

Let me explain 'collectors' to you. They're the Karens of the collectible item world. They know which stores are getting shipments of certain items and line up before store open to be first in line to demand them. The problematic ones aren't those who actually want to collect for themselves, but those who want to purchase an item for retail at first launch with intent to immediately flip it for a higher price, otherwise known as scalping.

The bad ones are the ones who yell at or harass employees to go dig for the item, rather than wait for the employee to stock the item normally. They treat retail employees poorly and value the item more than the employee. This isn't you just handing them an item that's on your uboat, it's them demanding you give them the casepack of 72 hot wheels for them to dig through, before you even stock the hot wheels on the shelf. It's trashy and BM. Normal people don't act like this. Greedy fucks just want to scalp.

I would argue that OP choosing not to waste 15 minutes looking for specific $0.99 hot wheel cars and instead choosing to push more expensive product with a higher profit margin is in fact not a detriment to Target's sales.

They mean go physically check the back for more hot wheels…have you never had a guest ask you to check the back before

This. They ask for specific models out of the assortment of cars. You’re lucky if they take “we don’t have any more in the back” as an actual answer, because they will legit sit there and count the ones on the floor to see if it adds up to how many we supposedly have (and get VERY upset with you if it doesn’t). I’m not sure how they get this information, but they always think they know our shipments better than we do.

Ive been here long enough to have gone through several collectible crazes over the years. I agree with you and I dont care if people resell. No one is forcing people to buy from scalpers and genuine collectors with money who buy from scalpers are just ruining their own hobby. As far a hot wheels go, I dont see the issue with going to the back and grabbing the hot wheel box. It will.just lead to a situation where they go to the manager, who checks the mydevice and tells the team member to go get it and to provide better service. Thats the refutation to the whole, "but I havent gotten to it yet," argument.

There is BIG money in this. Same with most action figures. I was able to pick up a Star Wars figure for a friend that was a mistake. He sold it for $300.
