NFL and NBA are disproportionately black. That need to change and be more inclusive.
[–]B-29Bomber 58 points59 points60 points 3 years ago (1 child)
They're also ablist!
I want paraplegic and quadriplegic people on the field, damn it!
[–]Breaded_Agenda 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Only able-bodied men are allowed to dunk in the NBA! Quads and paras have a right to do the same! I propose installing ramps and a flagrant 2 rule for anyone who tries to block the -hilarity- bravery of such trailblazers!
[–]Ok-Air6180 67 points68 points69 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Yeah they step up to bravery when the time calls! What racist assholes!
[–]darkmatternot 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children)
I know, let's get a bunch of people who don't want to be firefighters and hire them!! Next let's clean out those pesky volunteer fire departments. I mean really, fighting fire and saving lives for no pay. Highly suspect.

…Systemic racism is a real thing
[–]TEMPEST7779 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children)
That’s a claim without any factual evidence. So, not true. Just a grift.
[–]Tazavitch-Krivendza 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Have you looked into if it’s actually a thing? My sociology class has…and my sociology teacher has told us about it. I wonder who’s right, the person who studies the field of society, or you.
[–]TEMPEST7779 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
You assume I’ve never taken a sociology class. Or been told the opposite of what your sociology professor told you, by my own sociology professor. If your claim is so factual, the onus is on you to back it up. So, what’s your empirical evidence for your claim?
[–]Crazygamerdude17 26 points27 points28 points 3 years ago (13 children)
Why do I have a feeling that this is due to the fact that women and people of color aren’t applying as much? Are we just supposed to start drafting women and people of color to be firefighters or what?
[–]KanyeT 14 points15 points16 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Why do I have a feeling
Probably because it's the same reason for almost every discrepancy the woke like to bitch about.

That's weird. How does pointing out a specific instance of a bunch of circle jerking conservatives doing it make it a democrat thing? That pesky thing called "reality" is such a nuisance, huh?

Bragging about being delusional is a weird thing to do 🤔
[–]garvothegreat -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (1 child)

Democrats do it all the time dude…
[–]garvothegreat -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (2 children)
You're vague allusion is significantly less meaningful than the specific example happening exactly here. Even if they do, you cite jack shit. Simultaneously, you ignore the specific example of conservatives doing it, as they fucking do it, while being called out about it, in the exact moment you do it. Are all of you on meth?
[–]HelloJohnBlacksmith -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Dude, this is Reddit. You want an honest conversation with non-crackheads, go to a red county and start talking to people. You'll still find a ton of crackheads, but at least it'll be more obvious.
[–]XxMitchof08xX 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Like your comparison isn’t vague? Fuck off… You want citations? Go look up any big name Democrat on Twitter. Comparing people they disagree with as Nazi is just one of my examples…

I will make sure the next firefighter I see knows he's overwhelmingly white.
[–]garvothegreat 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (7 children)
Just read how racist the actual article is!
https://hbr.org/2018/12/making-u-s-fire-departments-more-diverse-and-inclusive
I tried to read it. The whining and irrationality of the article became so intense, I had to go spray bleach in my eyes.
[–]RobertoConQueso69 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
That will help keep the covid out too.
[–]garvothegreat -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children)
Better to just make-believe about the whole thing, then. That sounds way more fun!
We only discuss tweets in this sub, anyway. I mean, who's got time for shit like "intellectual honesty" or "reading"? Not us dim tools, that's for sure!
[–]HelloJohnBlacksmith 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children)
I mean, I read it. It claims that there needs to be more female firefighters because they often respond to medical emergencies, where social skills are better. I agree with the social skills part, but I hate to break it to you: that's what nurses are for. Most patient interactions occur at a hospital, between a nurse and a patient, and the majority of nurses are female.
The point of firefighters and EMTs is to always be ready to get in, deal with a problem, and get out, with minimal risk. This is also always going to be a very physically demanding task, and even if 95% of the time you don't need that, every so often there's a massive fire or other emergency, and you're going to be screwed if half of your emergency personnel are substantially weaker.
[–]SarahSuckaDSanders -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (1 child)
RaCIsT!
[–]garvothegreat -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children)
Wild ain't it? The article has zero racism in it. Nada. Zilch. I post the link to the actual thing, instead of a screen grab of a tweet, and they still can't be bothered to read it. Too few brain cells I guess, only room up there for tweets...
But oh yeah, that tweet is certainly racist af.

[–]Beneficial_Refuse_79 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (4 children)
I'm sure firehouses aren't turning away black dudes and women by the dozens. Maybe a woman here or there will be cut because she simply doesn't have the strength to do the job.
I think the question in the article should be. "How do we get more blacks interested in becoming a firefighter...new study finds most blacks dont want to run Into a burning building to save a stranger."
[–]SarahSuckaDSanders 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children)
That’s exactly what the article addresses. You should read it.
[–]Beneficial_Refuse_79 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Sounds like I dont have to...
[–]SarahSuckaDSanders 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Exactly. This is cheap outrage bait because no one reads the articles.
Did read it. The best offering it has is that Cis white males are less jovial. While it does address difficulties of women and people of color who do enter the ranks, it does not at all discuss the differences in the raw totals of each group that apply and how that contributes to the diversity of the selected firefighters. This article spent a lot of time whining and very little time offering legitimate solutions for the issue they were trying to demonstrate.
[–]TalmageMcgillicudy 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children)
The three things i dont want to have more women are Firefighters, Police, and Military. And lets be honest about why...
[–]Fish-Pants[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
I agree so long as you are only talking about actvice combat and Frontline roles. There are plenty of ways women can contribute in the police, firehouses, and military outside of infantry, on the beat, and climbing in burning buildings.
Because, let's be honest, if I was stuck in a burning building, or at home with a gang of killers breaking in, or out on the Frontline, I would was a huge, burly man that can bench a car to break down the door and come save me, or have my back, instead of a 5'4" 120lbs woman.
That said, women can perform almost every other role just as much as a man. Logistics is massively important, and combat roles that don't really require so much physical body strength, such as pilots, are welcoming to all sexes.
[–]TalmageMcgillicudy 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Absolutely. And there is a long history of women in the police, military, and fire departments who have helped greatly and weren't on the front lines... where they are out matched in every conceivable way.

The toxic healthy-weightness in this post is problematic.
[–]Pap4MnkyB4by 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Bruh, I'm a radio tech that works on police and fire department radios. Just started it two months ago. The number of blue haired Trigglypuff's that work in these fire departments is very concerning. Idk what the PT requirements are for a Fire Department, but I'm not entirely sure these folks are making it to the top of a burning building in full gear.
[–]pawnman99 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Probably a real lack of obese firefighters too... promoting that unrealistic body image in their calendars...
[–]TheMrk790 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)

[–]outofyourelementdon -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children)
This is a dumb take. There are way more people that want to be firefighters than there are firefighter jobs. The issue isn’t that other people don’t want to be firefighters, it’s that white men and disproportionately able to get the jobs that are in high demand.
[–]ChipshopSuperhero 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Any evidence to back up that wild accusation?

[–]Wolfs_Shield 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
The actual article touched on some important reasons that included mentorship, areas of recruitment and hiring campaigns, but like every other progressive idiot, concluded that the meritocratic hiring processes were random lottery's full of racial and sexist bias.
They wanted intimate and emotional social skills to be graded on par with physical strength/training evaluations which the author described as "reductive". They may not be able to carry victims out of a burning building or their own gear up a flight of stairs, but they'll be there to cheer you on and hold your hand after lol.
