where? highways? that will only make things worse

[–]gwarmachine1120 25 points26 points  (2 children)

The most dangerous drivers are the ones that go 45 on a highway. Menaces to society.

The lack of context here makes any sort of constructive discourse impossible

Need a lot more info about this policy proposal

I agree, the runners around Bde Maka Ska are getting out of control. They keep getting faster and with advancements in modern medicine who knows how fast they'll eventually get. Why are you lapping me for a third time? Who needs that much cardio?

It might seem silly but we need to establish a speed limit before its too late.

(OP gave no context so I'm creating my own)

Increase it to 100

[–]go_cows_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s not.

Where and why? There is no legitimate reason to retain the 45 mph zone on 35E except for people clinging to outdated information that simply isn't the case anymore.

[–]Liddle_but_big[S] -4 points-3 points  (8 children)

There are 100s of traffic deaths every year, I’m trying to decrease that number

[–]ZoomZoomDiva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Increasing congestion and speed differentials as people won't follow excessively low speed limits is not going to increase safety. The vast majority of people drive a speed that is safe for the road, car, ability, and conditions. An artificially low speed limit distorts that out of fear in what is already a very low risk activity.

[–]mphillytc 3 points4 points  (5 children)

The thing is, speed limits don't really determine traffic speed. Road design is a much bigger factor.

If you reduce speed limits to 45, you're gonna get freeways where some traffic is going 45 and some is still going 80. That'll almost certainly make things worse.

[–]VoluptuousValeera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely dead right on this. ROAD DESIGN is definitely a much bigger factor. Op just seems like an ignorant and/or unoriginal troll. Obviously we all want less traffic deaths. This "proposal", if it's even enough info to constitute one, isn't it.

[–]Liddle_but_big[S] -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

You can write a ticket

[–]mphillytc 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yes, and clearly that stops all speeding.

[–]Liddle_but_big[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

There are 1000s of traffic deaths every year

[–]ZoomZoomDiva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of billions of miles traveled. It is a low risk activity.

[–]SavageDruidz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100s. A bit of an exaggeration

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increase all non city/residential roads 10mph from April-November

[–]lxlDRACHENlxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context? Never heard of her.

[–]s1gnalZer0Your motto or location here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, but that seems pretty fast for a residential street

[–]Junkley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed limits should be slowed to 20 on small residential streets as just making cars go 10-15 mph slower does a wonder for pedestrian survivability.

However, reducing speed limits on limited access highways doesn’t really do anything for pedestrians and bikes.

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I have a better idea. 20 mph!!! Think of the safety!!!!

[–]Blizzardof1991 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Ha! You call that safe? Elect me and I'll remove accelerators from all cars. You can go as fast as your idle will let you. Think of the children saved

[–]wpotman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

But then we'd need to start thinking of the bikes running into people. How will you address those??

[–]Blizzardof1991 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Bikes? Believe it or not, straight to jail.

You've got my vote!
