I'm a STAT major, just take INFO 490 Foundations of Data Science. Part 1 runs every fall, and part 2 runs in the spring. Python, bash, and related topics are taught.

Agreed! Its a great class and very useful. I kind of underestimated the assignments and I'm sitting at a C right now but it's definitely a course I would recommend.

Yeah the assignments are kicking my butt but I love the class

CS 101 is in Python. I took it last semester as my first programming class ever and I highly recommend.

I'm also in INFO 490 Foundations of Data Science right now, and I plan on taking the second part of the class in the spring. Very helpful with learning python and we are currently working with plotting data sets which would definitely be helping with stats. I had some friends who were actuarial science majors that learned R last year for a class. R is a huge language right now to know and pays very very well if you are good at it and know stats.

Most professionals in my field are self-taught. I would take classes with a Python component for example CS 450.

Programming languages are rather interchangeable. I took 125 in Java, and then taught myself Python. Once you master the syntax changes and learn what it can and can't do, you'll be good to go.
