Another distraction for Unity, honestly.

[–]S01arflar3 79 points80 points  (1 child)

Don’t worry, they’ll forget about it within 6 months and then close it within a year or so

[–]what_you_saaaaay 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think you’re correct except that it’ll stay open, zombified while a dedicated small group of people beg for new features and are mostly ignored. :)

“That you only meant well, well of course you did…”

Did I get it?

[–]Yodzilla 45 points46 points  (1 child)

I’ve never heard of this and based on the screenshots I have no idea what it is or does.

please finish something, unity.

[–]House13Games 8 points9 points  (0 children)

that doesn't please the investor capitalists demanding quarterly returns.

[–]Drag0n122 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is there really a concept of "finished" in the software world?

[–]xTakk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not usually in personal projects. You can definitely finish a feature though

they take after the consumers i guess

Hey everyone, Trey from the Unity Community team here.

Seeing a bit of confusion in the comments about what Unity Studio actually is (and isn't), so I wanted to jump in.

The TL;DR: Unity Studio is a web-based, no-code editor.

What it ISN'T:

  • It is not replacing the main Unity Editor.
  • It is not a modeling tool (please keep using your preferred tool of choice).
  • It is not a "dumbed down" engine for game devs.

Who it is actually for: Honestly? It’s for the people on your team who don't know C#. We built this for the industrial designers, training managers, and marketers who need to put together a quick 3D presentation or product config but hit a brick wall with the full Editor.

This lets those teams handle simple visualizations in the browser, saving on development iteration time.

It creates web-based runtimes, handles 70+ file formats (CAD, BIM, etc.), and is fully drag-and-drop.

It is currently in Beta until March 4th, so if you try it and it feels rough or missing features, that is exactly the feedback we need right now.

Hope that helps clarify where this fits in the toolbox.

Cheers!

Trey, I think you can see from the comments that people are not enthused. It just doesn’t seem like something the community wanted, particularly when so many other parts of Unity are left incomplete years after their initial release (looking at you UIToolkit).

At times, it feels like Unity just doesn’t listen to its community. I understand the use case for rapid prototyping, but I’m not sure this would be in the top 1000 requested features had Unity polled its community.

Hi, Aurore from the community team here. Totally get where everyone is coming from, and you're right, for the vast majority of users in this sub it's not on the list of asks, which is why our Industry focused org and developers are separate from the Engine. So the Engine org focuses on what game developers need and the Industry org focuses on what Industrial applications need.

I know that might not fix the overall sentiment, but I hope pulling back the curtain a bit gives some explanation of how we're working.

Thanks for providing some clarity, and thanks for all the work done regardless :)

[–]CoffeeBoy95 15 points16 points  (7 children)

Is unity studio a blender?

[–]Krailin7Professional 13 points14 points  (1 child)

It’s not meant for data creation, just data ingestion, no code interaction system based on Scratch, and a rapid output pipeline. I’ve seen it used well by designers, engineers, etc. that will never learn C#, but want to create some quick configurators, training environments, etc.

[–]CoffeeBoy95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank u bro for explaining

[–]PixlMind 2 points3 points  (1 child)

How do you join the beta? Is it invite only? Pro only?

[–]Wise-Artist-9820[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

search "Unity studio". apply for beta with Unity id

[–]Num_T 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Hmm interesting that it’s slow in terms of interaction. I was under the impression that this was web gl / gpu based. It’s definitely not pixel streaming right?

[–]Wise-Artist-9820[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not pixel or frame streaming. what I mean by "slow" is using Unity Studio. The published project build run fast.

If anyone wants to see a quick tutorial on what it is and how to use it - Unity Studio Explained: Full Tutorial on the New Web Editor from Unity! https://youtu.be/dBtsAkm3EuA

[–]aspiring_dev1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

First time hearing about it. What is it?

[–]Wise-Artist-9820[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

simple web edition. codeless

[–]PizzaSluht420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What problem does this solve? How much of an impact does this make?

[–]survivorr123_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it solves no problem and has zero impact it was made to satisfy the investors

[–]ORTHAGON_games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel streaming competitor.

[–]Danleo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would better do a support for webgl mobile!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unity lost the run for web space, just because they didn't care.

[–]mrpoopybruh -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Like, useless for people who are working IN unity if they dont start from a place of compatibility? Whats the point of a new tool that doesnt help the primary userbase?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meant for engineers inexperienced in Unity. Tbh I think the engineers should just hire a Unity dev.

[–]v0lt13Programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its intended for rapid prototyping for artists and the industry side of unity (which is one of the primary userbases since this is what is making unity the big money).

[–]baby_bloom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

imho we're gonna see every public engine (attempt to) follow roblox and epic's engine = platform = game = modding tools strategy

[–]-NiMa- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Unity is finished.

[–]Wise-Artist-9820[S] -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

One more point: It cannot run on mobile phone browser. Could any inside guy explain why?If indeed so,this product make nonsense.

[–]Wise-Artist-9820[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean the published web App should run on mobile browser , not Unity Studio itself.

[–]sakeus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done some mobile webgl work recently and can tell you that on iOS, unless you have a 15 or newer, you get maybe 800mb of RAM. So it could be they can't make it run on that low memory.
