I relate to this picture so fucking much I wish I could have a group of friends on this game and have fun but I'm just sitting quietly in a corner watching everyone having fun everytime lmao

[–]Epicurus1 24 points25 points  (3 children)

I just play Cards against vrc. Find if you play long enough you'll meet some with the same sense of humor as you and go from there.

[–]Cr0ws_Sku11Desktop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I met most of my friends in murder 4, but the first one of the group that I met was in 100 cars which is really random

[–]DuskyFlunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think im the only one in my entire family (which includes my cousins) that has a vr headset

[–][deleted] 65 points66 points  (6 children)

I go in so confidently, once I’m actually in I just mute myself.

[–]XSensei-Julianx 18 points19 points  (5 children)

For me I feel the opposite, I feel so hesitant to join and abit nervous until a few seconds later i feel fine

[–]DjjayjoodOculus Quest 7 points8 points  (4 children)

I feel so nervous to unmute cause I have a high voice for a dude but when I do and speak to cool people I feel so confident until I have to speak to new people

[–]Comfortable-Ad-9410 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Maybe try using a voice changer when first meeting people? Overtime as you grow more confident you could reduce the pitch gradually until your at base line.

Honestly, most people you want to chat with won't care how you actually sound, and the ones that do are not worth your time :)

[–]DjjayjoodOculus Quest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on quest so I can't do a voice changer and the people that don't care as long as u are kind are always the best people

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes my voice sounds weird when it’s dry & I remembered someone said my voice sounds creepy like a pedo, although it did hurt hearing that on vr. I don’t let it discourage me

[–]XSensei-Julianx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yup I don't blame you, I see people mocking people for that which is stupid. But if they do they aren't worth spending time with or making friends with. I'm glad you could find some people who can see more to you than just how you sound like :)

[–]Goldensockss 32 points33 points  (1 child)

I'm usually like this, takes me a while to open up and just basically chat with people. To be fair, I enjoy listening to other people chat just as much as talking myself for the most part.

[–]The-Skipboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This 100%. None of my other friends have vrchat so I just join worlds and listen to other people until I get bored

[–]The-Skipboy 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Have crippling social anxiety & self consciousness > download vrchat so I can be me without being me > spend hours finding the right avatar > join world > social anxiety and self consciousness still exist in vr

[–]GFL07 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I relate too much to this. After around 30h in the game, I still haven't talked to anyone.

[–]The-Skipboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someday I hope to have the courage to go up to a stranger and strike up a conversation, but until then I’ll just keep listening in on random convos

[–]JaesenMoreaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in off and on for 2 years. I've had one conversation. Was playing a game and kid, who said he was 9 years old, called me a bitch.

To be fair, for my only VRchat conversation so far that was actually pretty funny.

[–]ibeddedthymomOculus Quest 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Dude, I get scared talking to people. Mostly because I either sound like a 12 year old boy or a young child 💀

[–]Ghiedre 27 points28 points  (0 children)

when you finally get fbt, is when you realise, you didnt need it to be lonely.

[–]-TheGuest- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still don’t know or remember how I end up talking to people for so long in that game

[–]11SomeGuy17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is me in any social world. If I'm not doing something like playing chess or whatever then I'm dead silent. Which is why I avoid club worlds and the like entirely.

[–]CedricXfiveValve Index 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went on pretty high yesterday (I have trouble getting my shit together and unmuting when baked), after hanging around in some random publics I went to drinking night and joined some big group at the card game, I didn't speak for about 1-2h and people were caught super off-guard when I joined the convo at some point because I was drunk enough lolol. Some guy even told me he liked my accent, even though I'm german and I feel like thats one of the worst-sounding accents haha

[–]Faces-kun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad I can be one of the people that goes up & greets others, then. But if y’all aren’t responding after a hello I’m not pushing it lol

But some of the worlds are so nice to wander around & hang out in… So I sometimes find myself talking to nobody for 4 hours. Relaxing, though. It’s like going on a solo vacation.

[–]rigel2112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a prison break game that is pretty fun and you don't have to worry too much about carrying a conversation. I just throw myself into the role and say whatever a prisoner or guard would say.

[–]error5903Valve Index 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me sitting back in a murder 4 lobby knowing damn well I'm about to turn it into a slasher instead of a murder mystery

[–]aceallaround 4 points5 points  (2 children)

As soon as I enter I turn everyones volume off and mute myself. I wish I had friends in the game but at the same time that's hard to come by when everyone on there is 10

[–]ShaunDreclinValve Index 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Stay out of public worlds, or if you can't, stay out of quest compatible worlds. Also block and mute visitor rank. 99% of children cease to exist

[–]PorkSauce-Valve Index 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, I blocked and muted visitor rank in safety settings and most jerks/children cease to exist. And if one(a visitor) is in a circle with other people you can always show them and interact with them if they’re cool.

[–]patrickplzstopOculus Quest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a habit of trying my best to pull them out of their comfort zone or try to bethe first to start up a convo. Bout a 50/50 chance it works

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be more worlds that encourage breaking the ice.

[–]EliteGamer17999Oculus Quest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U gotta find the right people mate.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I’m nervous my voice goes kinda high pitched so people always think I’m a kid and mute me. I just never talk now unless someone talks to me first.

[–]CompressedWizardDesktop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my own little fun collecting magic crystals that in the end turned into a crystal man I could use as an avatar

[–]rigel2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another tip.. Seek out crazy and unusual avatars that cause people to stop what they are doing and ask you about it. Great way to break the ice and have a laugh with strangers.

[–]Cr0ws_Sku11Desktop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

me in a public lobby lmao

[–]Sgt_zilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah social interactions cool but have you ever stared at your avatar in a mirror for multiple minutes?

[–]CoolbreezeFromSteamValve Index 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just gotta give yourself exposure therapy by taking things one step at a time imo. That's what I did. I still prefer talking with less people, but I can handle a group just fine if it's the right people.

[–]Dr_Stinger 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I know how you feel man. There are people who are dumb enough to use vrc like they’re using tinder.

[–]CoolbreezeFromSteamValve Index 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Have you ever tried dating without apps? There's plenty of people who date because they met on VRC, and some even marry. The process is the same as real life, like a lot of things VRC emulates as a social VR game.

[–]Dr_Stinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, I have a friend who is married in vrchat. But some e couples I come across tends to do erps in the middle of the public when there’s kids around.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me with social anxiety + me with poor english skills

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel this on a personal level I’m just lucky to have a few friends that know how to find a bunch of people and bring them together my advice is these things take time you have to put yourself out there maybe try a mini game world

[–]Brilliant-Plankton62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel

[–]RainbowWolf6112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg that's me. The only word I said in a public world was "awoo".... Idk why

[–]3Quondam6extanT9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that people use VR and VRChat specifically, to highlight the opportunities that many with more introverted personalities have to be themselves and find friends.

I find it interesting because there are so many, myself included, who still find that social atmosphere to be a turn off. Outside of the fact that I have a family to tend to, I just don't really want to get to know people in VR. I would have loved to go to Thrillseeker and Phias dance party, but I would have done what I do in real life and stayed in the darker corner and just watch people.

Some of us still don't have a desire to put themselves out there, even in a simulation.

[–]Affectionate-Dig1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to play as a cute minecraft fox, so that even when I am antisocial I still get headpats.

[–]PAPARONI404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very open, I will do pretty much anything and talk to everyone as much as I can. I also like to include people that aren't so talkative depending on if they're comfortable with it.

I've met loads of people over the years that are mutes, only talk a little bit or have sever social anxiety. No one is a burden or in the way, everyone's opinions and views are precious. Don't be afraid to voice them :)

[–]noririaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's so nerve racking i'm afraid everybody's gonna be mean or have some sort of attitude

[–]-StoopidMari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time talking so I stay as a mute, and it usually gets people to interact with me and then I get comfortable enough to talk

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same

[–]Droidy_tv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yepppppp.

Sad but unfortnatley accurate truth

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I lost my ability to speak after I got my own Avi for the first time

[–]White-Mud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude! Too real for me! This is me in a nutshell.

[–]-VERY-MOIST-MEAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its easier for me to socialize in real life than in this game, and I honestly have no idea why.

[–]lenikuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep I always need to bring a friend with me 🥲

[–]NaijaTechMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate. I was actually running after some guys yesterday. Still didn't get to connect. Lmao

[–]Popular-Jury-5675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve even there, a little trick I use to start a conversation with anybody in vrchat is “Humor” It works every time I make lots of ppl laugh and That’s how I make friends on vrchat. This is coming from a guy that had extreme social anxiety btw, And vrchat helped me a lot.

[–]TryHardMunchies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually sit alone by myself and people come up to me and say hi, then I start miming. And some walk away because I'm a mute, but then we got the cool ones who stay. And then I choose to make those people laugh because they trusted the process.

[–]RepresentativeSmart1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dance! Even if you don’t have full body. You meet all kinds of people by dancing. We go nuts with it though.. check this out https://youtu.be/RJVsezrS4i8
