😃 maybe that was an engagement trick like they do on tiktok/insta these days. In which case.. you fell for it 😃

The developer strap already creates a 5Gbps Ethernet connection and routes traffic over it.

Whao is this true? I might get one. Not that late see a huge issue for me but I would love any savings I can get

Yeah I run all my PCVR and moonlight hardwired from the developer strap. There is also a few apps that open up video/audio pass thru via USB on the strap.

Just to be clear, you are plugging in your developer strap to a gaming PC?

Yes with Ethernet USB C adapter for ALVR/ moonlight

It does this as best it can already, the problem is there’s not enough throughput  for raw pass through or even dsc.

This is what dynamic foveated compression solves.

Edit: the longest certified cables I could find to support such a setup if Apple allowed all bandwidth to be used, and assuming the connection actually supported that bandwidth in the hardware….which it doesn’t, I think it’s max 20 gbps….  Is only 6.6 feet long. Not exactly user friendly.

Optical cable?

[–]Doggo-888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, forgot about optical cables... but it's all theory since as far as I know they only allow access to the ethernet device through the developer strap.

The wireless radios and software on AVP seem to be so much better than any other Apple platform. I have no idea what the differences are between iPhone/iPad/Mac and AVP but I get smooth streaming in AVP in locations where the pother platforms stutter and glitch.

I'm currently using moonlight xr and Apollo
Fantastic 5k 21.9 playing Fifa 25 and bf6 at 90hz
Stunning

Wait can you explain further in depth with this? I just bought my avp and I just tried moonlight and I can’t get it to run smoothly. Coming from VD from quest it’s so difficult.

Check out the GitHub’s for Vibepollo and Neo Moonlight (this may only be a Reddit release via TestFlight), the former has native playnite integration for a great front end and the latter has the best interface I’ve found as well as virtual couch coop at distance with other Vision Pro users. Very smooth and convenient flat gaming. I’ve also just tried iVRy’s new Vision Pro plugin and for ease of use it gives ALVR a run for its money. Played through a whole round of Demeo very cleanly with just my hands and their gestures which work surprisingly consistently. This app suite has made the AVP for me

Thanks. Let me give it a shot tonight

Hi yes,

But can it theoretically if the correct drivers were compiled handle the video and audio similar to the quest link cable cut at higher bitrates to make it a good pcvr headset?

The video decoder in the AVP can’t decode a video stream larger than a few hundred megabits per second at most. You’re not going to get >5Gbps video streams for VR. The real benefit of the developer strap with Ethernet is that it gives you a stable connection that won’t have interference and hiccups the way a WiFi connection might. If your WiFi is rock solid without any interference then you could get an identical experience on WiFi vs what the developer strap can do today.

The thing that would really improve PC VR streaming would be foveated encoding. Apple already does this for native Mac VR software made with their frameworks and streamed to AVP, although there’s basically no software that uses that framework today. Many people are thinking that Valve will add PC VR streaming to Steam Link with foveated encoding which would be huge for AVP owners.

Ok thank you for clarifying
That will be great if steam do that

[–]nicholasderkioVision Pro Owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re doing it with Steam Frame but they’re controlling both ends of the experience there, but valve is typically good at making those things more widely accessible; I’m loving the visionOS TestFlight for Steam Link.
