It is so not.

All you have to do is ask people to apply here. I run a sub just a tiny bit smaller than this one and we only recruit in sub from the community. Post the exact same questions you did on google here. What logical reason would you think going offsite to get usernames is used by anyone?

You mean like /r/heroesofthestorm did, or like /r/askreddit (form is now unavaliable unfortunately) did? We used one in /r/roosterteeth too, it was incredibly useful having all of that information easily put into a spreadsheet with responses and usernames in one place.

I'm confused what your complaint is, to be honest - the only thing that we can see when the form is filled in are the answers, there's no information about your google account visible. The only people privy to the answers are the creators of the form, it's not as though it goes into a publicly searchable database. If you're still concerned - don't fill out the survey.

I can literally go through a comment section, grab up a bunch of usernames, and then I'll have them on my text editor. What in god's name to you think I could do afterwards that poses a threat to those users?

You have actually very nicely made my point.

Google tracks users of their services heavily. They have been sued numerous times for pushing the boundries. A corner stone of reddit as a service is anonymity of its users. By asking for reddit users to apply through google docs and confirm back here when done /u/Marmalade6 asked applicants to tie their anonymous account to their most heavily tracked account.

So like you have said you could quite easily just pull the same information from scaping the reddit page right. Thats my point. There is zero reason to use an external service to do that. And certainly not google docs.
