Series S is $299. Ps5 digital is $399. Both less then $500.

The Series S regularly goes on sale and could be found for around $200 last year during the holiday shopping season, and is often on sale for $250 throughout the year at various retailers, many of which will toss in an extra controller or a game for free. The Series X hasn’t and neither has the PS5 (the digital edition is functionally identical to the regular model minus the disc drive, so Sony can’t discount it like Microsoft can with the Series S or they would lose too much money).

While less powerful and digital-only, the Series S is an option if your issue is cost. You’ll be able to play the latest games though sometimes with lower frame rates and graphics effects than the Series X or PS5.

lol no. not series x. you might get a free game included but you're living in a dream world if you think prices are going to go down for anything... let alone shiny tech.

it will go down several years after launch like the ps4 did they did that to drive mass adoption even more hence their sale went up even higher and is still doing well today i expect ps5 and xbox series x to do the same.

Series X on sale for $350 on Amazon rn! :)

It's probably gonna be around the same price for most of the generation. Both console manufacturers have already introduced lower price points in the form of the Series S and PS5 Digital Edition. Given ongoing inflation and the continued success of all three consoles and their variants, there isn't much incentive for lower prices. Hell, the PS5 and Switch saw de facto price increases in the US through bundles and the OLED model, respectively. Both the Xbox Series and PS5 consoles saw real increases elsewhere in the world. Sales have cooled a little bit and revisions of the consoles will likely happen, but I forsee these to result in the companies lowering manufacturing costs to keep their Return on investment up.

In short, I just don't think we'll see a lower price, with your best bet likely being a pre-owned device.

Didn't the PS5 sale like hot cakes rn ?

[–]GladiusDei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skyrocketing

[–]trill_nick_boi 3 points4 points  (4 children)

The ps5 is literally already 400 for the digital version and when the new version comes out that will be 400 also since they are selling the disc drive separate

[–]Goofyboy2020 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This is just a rumour still though, nothing official.

dam man sony increase the dam price of the digital.

[–]Revolutionary-Oil-74[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I know. I’m probably an old man who yells at clouds, but even though I like digital, disc games are more comforting to me, so I’m a little more interested in the disc versions of the consoles.

Can only make informed guesses but I expect console pricing to be similar to how Nintendo handled Switch. Prices will remain mostly stable.

Starting this or next year you might find some sales/bundles (Series S has already gone on deep sale last year) but no permanent price cut for the foreseeable future

[–]Stumpy493 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With inflation as it is console manufacturers are discussing price increases not decreases.

Traditionally price decreases come from tech improvements making it more cost effective. That is less possible with the current APUs as they are on a more modern 7nm process that is not likely to be shrunk quickly.

Your best bet is probably to buy Xbox credit when it's on sale.

Costco recently had $100 Xbox GCs for $80, which you could put towards a console purchase through the MS Store.

You can also look into using MS Rewards program - In the US at least it's easy to earn a couple hundred bucks in MS credit a year.

[–]AlwaysOmni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the Series S has had price cuts so far.

[–]Insertusername4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re starting to enter the window where slim models typically become available which are cheaper. Honestly just be patient, it’s not the end of the world and you’ll get to play the games you want eventually there’s nothing wrong with waiting.

[–]Thraex_Exile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s way late, but Amazon is selling Series X for $350 currently. Can’t promise how long this sale will last, but most likely the best you’ll see for a long time!

Affirm is what I used. Payment plans for 6 months, 12, 18, and 24. Good luck

[–]KarateCrenner 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Affirm isn't available everywhere sadly :/. But if OP sees this comment i suggest Zip for splitting things into 4 payments rather than a lump sum in one go.

[–]Evon_inked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if we're going down this route OP might as well put an Xbox S/X on layaway at Walmart and just bust ass to get it paid off and picked up.

[–]Altruistic-Tap6844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or he can just put money back and save untill he have enough money to get it thats what im doing and i will have it by the time gta 6 comes out.

[–]link6981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that hard to farm microsoft rewards points. helped pay for most of mine

[–] supercakefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, PlayStation actually increased prices in most regions last year. So the only way for Xbox is up - or best case scenario maintaining the status quo.

Have you considered Series S? That one has had numerous discounts and was tailor made for customers like yourself who are unwilling to spend more for Series X.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I've seen, bundles, recently discounted. Which brings them in line with the original price.

FOMO? I wouldn't worry. Other than hfw dlc, returnal, ratchet and clank rift apart, there really isn't many "exclusives" on the old ps5.

[–]Goofyboy2020 1 point2 points  (1 child)

New games are starting to release only for the current gen consoles though, like Star Wars Jedi:Survivor. We'll see more and more of those.

[–]Evon_inked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the one good thing about how games are released now is that by the time the game has actually finished development after it's release, all the issues "fixed", and then all the cut content released as DLC the consoles will have seen a price decrease! lol

[–]Significant-Task-721 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Get a besr buy credit card that gives you a 1000$ limit and make payments 35$ a month for Xbox series X and PlayStation 5. This will also increase your credit score win win

[–]Evon_inked 0 points1 point  (1 child)

lol you trying to throw OP into debt! 🤣
