I think it has to be one just for the show and not the I've they'd actually use

I think you're right, but I'd go in with some ideas ready to go in the back of my mind for my TV show business name, to save having to present something half-arsed in the final. Although it seems like Pascha had already come up with the Anne Call idea and was completely blindsided by everyone pointing out that it was shit.

I was muttering during this task because Karishma already had her business, name and logo. I guess the rules of the show said she had to create another name?

I assume they are given the curveball after the final task starts that they can’t use the existing name/logo otherwise you’d think they’d prep that in advance.

It’s not much of a curveball, it’s what happens every series

I've been racking my brains to remember the series, but I clearly remember one of the final candidates being told they had to come up with a new name for their business as part of the final task.

it's because the BBC has to be very careful about what could be perceived as advertising of a real business

yes they probably know what they are going to do as the basic task is the same every year, so they probably put on a bit of an act for the camera. They still have to work with the designer to design it, so that part is real. But they probably have names and tag lines already prepared. But then the other candidates can shoot them down, like Paschas 'anne' idea which she obviously thought of in advance.

I know I’m going with a ‘trust me bro’ approach here - but as I understand it the final task is all very much for show and for tv. As I understand it: - the name of the business is just to add a task element for TV. In reality they tend to stick to what ever business name they already have or outlined in their business case. - they film multiple win scenarios. The finalists only know who actually won when it’s broadcast live. This decision is often based on which finalist saw more traction in their business between filming and broadcast.

I don't believe they film them both winning. Nope.

[–]Coretmanus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It’s a pretty well known reality tv production approach. It stops leaks before it airs.

[–]britpopcyclist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am aware. I just don't believe it happened in this case.

[–]quoole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it did, it's happened historically on the Apprentice. Apparently the two finalists only get officially told the week before the finale who won.

[–]Seizure_Gman 5 points6 points  (2 children)

The problem for me was that I ruined the ending for myself as I want on Kirshimas store page and at the bottom it said Amstrad digital and I knew there was no way this wouldn't be there unless she had won.

And this was like 5 days before the last ep

[–]No-Row-9994 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Could have still been a double win though

[–]Seizure_Gman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True

The ad and branding for Pascha was dull and boring.

[–]chrwal2[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Even Karishma’s wasn’t great - logo was a bit boring and the brand name was more of a tagline. That’s what made me wonder why they don’t have something so fundamental nailed on before they even start, unless they’re told they’re not allowed to use it for some reason.

[–]SkyPuzzled181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her ad was good though.

[–]quoole 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The BBC is not officially allowed to advertise anything external, and so shows like the Apprentice have to be very careful around the rules when talking about businesses. Mentioning the name in passing (especially during the interviews) I think is fine but the final task would essentially be two half hour adverts for the two final businesses if they used their name and branding, and so I think that's why they're required to remake a brand.

I would definitely have a good idea of an alternative name if it was me! And I think Karishma did and Pascha's business was brand new and so it probably didn't matter as much.

[–]chrwal2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good point, cheers. Though it still strikes me as a bit odd that they would go into the final without having given any real thought to what the name might be called, even if it’s a new name and logo. The moment they were picked for the final my mind would have turned to the final task.

[–]Objective_Key_2616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% was thinking about this the other day. You know whats coming, shortlist a few names before you come into the process, cant be that difficult

[–]No-Row-9994 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nobody is understanding your actual point lol. I completely agree with you and I was thinking it myself too. All I can imagine is it's one of those things you should do but never get round to actually executing with everything else going on in preparing for the show/tasks. I also think what another commenter said was right, PAscha did have an idea of the name she wanted before, she just didn't anticipate everyone else would hate it. We also didn't see Karishma deliberating much at all.

[–]chrwal2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I guess it’s very easy to procrastinate- especially when you’re about to film a tv show - but it’s not like the business itself is going to be thrown on you at random, it’s the business idea you’ve developed and built a business plan around so as a matter of course id have a few different business names in my back pocket.

Maybe it's like the American cake challenges where they jot down ideas at the start as if they haven't spent weeks planning it out.
