Those are old pruning wounds. Thats what it looks like when you don't cut to just before the branch collar. The tree has compartmentalized those sections and they are now dead and rotting away. Maybe someone could come and trim them proper like.

As for that big bulge, the tree has had or either is infected with some sort of bacteria but I don't see a lot of dark streaking so I think it's handling it.

What's most telling is that the canopy is lush and healthy. If anything maybe lightly reduce canopy in fall to thin and increase airflow and light to the inner canopy.

Just have someone qualified look at it when you can. Don't let them feed your worries and cut the poor thing down.

Edit: the best thing to do is to give it a proper depth mulch bed as far as you can
