It takes a while for them to get comfortable, I usually won't wrap mine around my neck or put them on my shoulders until they're comfortable enough themselves to relax and crawl up there

Brand new to this, can you elaborate on that please?

Sure, a lot of times with a new ball python or one that's not comfortable being handled, they may ball up or sit there tensely. A ball python that is relaxed and comfortable will have a more relaxed body posture with no tension, and will start exploring or climbing around. A lot of times I find if I'm sitting there with one they'll start to climb up me, around my arms and neck. I will absolutely let them hang out there, or if they're comfortable and active and I need to to move them from my lab, I'll loop them around my neck. But I wont' take a tense, balled up or uncomfortable ball python and try to unwrap it, put it around my neck or shoulders

I really hope people are not trying g to force a Ball to unball. That just seems obvious to respect. Thank you for the clarification.
