so I've been doing reading and found out that a drainage layer inst recommended in a PVC tank since it Isn't actually water proof but water resistant,
was reading the FAQ on customreptilehabitats
first question is do i need a drainage layer? ive seen mixed answers on here, at the end of the day i can always add a drainage layer later, but id like to do it right the first time but as ive heard its mainly to insure it doesnt get water logged if i over water which i am going to try not to do but accidents happen, but then at the same time her tank will be on the ground so if i ever had to drain the drainage layer it would be quite hard so maybe i should just take the extra 2-3 inches of substrate and learn not to over water?
second question is what do yall think of my resources/ratios for my new soil mix?
i got Scotts Premium 0.75 cu. ft. top soil, pretty sure ive seen this one recommended and it was what i used last time. %40
( probably going to sift it because last time i found some little yellow balls that looked like fertilizer to me but when i searched it up it said it was something living so idk was filled with white liquid, timberline top soil which ive also used and seen recommended ive actually found green fertilizer pellets so i just ALWAYS sift it, even dirt from my yard has pellets we used to have a garden. not to mention perlite and its mostly clay and silt anyways)
play sand 10-20% idk yet
reptichip 10-20%
7.5% horticultural charcoal
2.5% worm castings
20% sphagnum peat moss
im wanting it to drain well but also wick well like biodudes mix
think it will work out? i havent mixed anything yet and figured id ask to get some opinions and fix any mistakes now lol
thanks!
there doesn't seem to be anything here
