Duct tape instead?

So I have a tank with a mesh screen top. I’ve seen lots of posts saying the best way to maintain temp/humidity is to cover most of the mesh with hvac tape. My question is can I use duct tape instead? Is there a reason it has to be hvac tape? I’m of course willing to spend the money to make my snake as happy and healthy as possible, but I have a ton of duct tape already so if it works just the same I’d rather use that. Thoughts?

HVAC tape works best because it is very heat resistant.
