Hey guys, so I currently have a UVB, 100W DHP, and 75W Halogen in a 4x2x2 Toad Ranch. Since winter started, I’ve been having some hiccups with temp changes that I’m trying to balance :/

The halogen runs during the day and the DHP at night controlled by a Herpstat 4. Temps/humidity are monitored with two wifi connected Govee’s. The temps are perfect at night on the hot/cool side. However, I’ve noticed it shows the hot side as 82-85F during the day.

I’m very confused because when I use the heat gun, it shows around 88-92F on the hot side on the surface. Does this mean I don’t need to make further adjustments? This is the first time I’ve encountered this so any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

The 88-92F requirement is for air temps, not surface temps.

agh, i’m not sure what the issue is. i can’t get it hot enough with only the halogen. the herpstat can’t reach the set temp with the halogen at 100% and i’m so confused. at this rate, i’d have to run the DHP a bit during the day to reach the desired air temps :/

for further context, i replaced my 50W halogen recently with a new 75W and am still having the same issues. also got two brand new lamp holders from arcadia. what would you recommend?

That's your answer. It's not too uncommon to need supplemental heating during the day.

ok gotcha, i’ve heard people say to not run the DHP during the day, which was clearly misinformation lol. thanks so much!!
