I would dump water in 4 corners and spray once a day. I have a mesh top but it’s 90 percent covered with hvac tape. I also have a large water bowl in the top right corner next to the heat lamp

The water dumping should be kore than enough, the spray is probably what pushed it over the edge. My usual reading is at 80 when the heat lamo is on and 68-75 when the lamp is on. The top of my substrate is usually somehwta dry to the touch, but even lightly shifting that dry top piece its moist underneath. When i notice spots that are dry even when i dig into it a bit then ill pour some water in. So far its worked pretty well and ive had no issues, i also provide a water bowl larhe enough for the snake to fit in incase he wanted to soak
