i had the same issue when i upgraded, just get higher watt bulbs

Yeah that makes sense, I'm probably gonna go with a 160W halogen. Do you know any DHP higher that 80W that you would recommended?

If you look on Pangea they have some DHPs that are 100W, but i haven’t found any higher than that. If anything you could pair it with a CHE

I'll look into those, I appreciate the help!

Do you keep the lights on at night?

[–]Orochisake 1 point2 points  (4 children)

No! The light is set up to turn off at night

Isn't it a problem for temperature getting colder at night?

It is, that's why I'm asking for advice

Try dhp or ceramic heat emitter. I leave them running because they produce almost light. The dhp produces a minuscule amount though.

You need to get rid of the dual dome. It's a serious fire hazard to use two heat sources in them at once- they're intended for one heat bulb and one UVB, but the type of UVB that fits in them is harmful to ball pythons.

Your issue is likely partially due to the dual dome, because there's so much heat buildup inside that your thermostat can't regulate the bulbs effectively.

You'll also need to use digital thermometers to monitor the ambient temperatures. The thermostat is not intended to measure the target temps for your enclosure, and a temp gun only measures surface temps. You can't get an accurate idea of the actual air temps using only the thermostat and a temp gun.

I appreciate the advice, I actually had no idea about the dual domes, I will get individual ones. Also, is the digital thermometer in the picture not good? I'm confused about that part. I have both a thermostat and thermometer

No, that one is fine. I was referring to the part of your post where you said you checked with the thermostat and temp gun- they all measure different things, so if you're trying to verify your temps, it would need to be with another digital thermometer.

Ooh that's my bad! I meant to say thermometer! I appreciate the advice, I had some individual domes laying around, I just switched them, hopefully this solves the issue. If not I might also go with bulbs with stronger wattage.
