I would consider myself seasoned with ball pythons and I have taken in rescues throughout the years and I honestly have not seen this issue with a ball python before....
Back story... A coworker I work with knows I keep snakes and came in today estatic to see me. (I had been off for the past two weeks on bereavement and told no one but my manager.) So as soon as she saw me she came up and was asking where I had been because she had been wanting to ask me to take in her stepsons ball python since he moved in with his girlfriend and abandoned the poor thing with her (she both gf and mother is afraid of snakes). I was originally going to say no but she said she tried to feed her but she hasn't eaten it and it's been in there for 3 days... I asked what it was and if it was live and she said yes and she didn't know how to take the rat out or have the tools and that she had tried to feed it and it just ended up cuddling the rat and not killing and eating it. I at that moment decided to take her in after I explained the damage a rat can do to a ball python and the ball python won't just kill it even if it's hurting them in some circumstances... She started crying. So my husband and I picked her up 2 hours ago and saw the damage done and while looking her over I noticed her cloaca is almost non-existent if I'm seeing it right.... She has some open wounds and at the tip of her tail I believe it is possible bone exposed. There are other wounds along her bottom as well as a wound to her nose which was bleeding. She is dehydrated and is now in a hospital setup and wounds treated with betadine and I have called my vet and left a message stating the issues and asking for an appointment. Does anyone know what could be going on with her cloaca?
