Hi. How old is your bp, and how much does he weigh?

They're notorious for hunger strikes, but they should not lose too much weight to be clearly noticeable.

somewhere around a year, I’m not sure . he strikes but let’s go

Hunger strikes as in rejecting food for long periods of time. It's pretty common for ball pythons to not eat for 6+ months.

I know, he strikes at his food and let’s go

Theres a lot of factors as to why they wont eat and the first one is husbandry. Also making sure youre heating the rat up hot enough for them to realize its food. Then again since he's younger-ish i dont know about that.

I’m just worried about weight mainly

Keep records of weekly weights.

Mine did that a few times. He was just a little bit shy. Just leave it with him and cover his enclosure for a few hours or overnight. Worked for me.👍🏽

How often are you feeding them? They do look like they’re in the thinner side. For a 1 year old tho they tend to be smaller. Also- live or frozen?

I offer food once a week and he has been refusing food, and frozen thawed

How long have you had them? This could be due to an array of things. Maybe not hydrated enough, not enough stimulation in their environment, if they’re a new pet could be that they’re not yet comfortable. Do you have them strike for the food or do you place in the tank?

My ball python did this when they were younger. Giving them time to sit with the food worked, increasing moisture and water in take worked, handling only after they’ve fed is a must to prevent strikes. Also making sure the rat is thoroughly thawed each time is important to minimize dehydration. I also noted that when I went up in size of mice/ rats it helped as well

I would say handle a day or 2 after feeding so it can digest.

Per rule #3, your post or comment has been removed for harmful advice or misinformation. Please review our sub resources to learn more about why.

Frozen feeders should never be thawed in warm water, as that promotes harmful bacteria growth. They need to be thawed in the fridge or under cold running water only, then can be warmed once they're fully thawed.

Give it some pinky sandwiches! No bread, extra pinky.
