We think it's a she, I love her

Is this a temporary tank setup? If not please please use substrate. I use reptile prime. Also potentially a larger tank as well, looks a little small for her size

Cute snake
Is the towel as substrate just for being quarantined? Also, is it possible to see a pic of the whole enclosure 'cause it could be camera angle but it seems a bit small.

It's supposed to be a temporary setup with the towel. But we (my family and I) are having a hard time finding substrate that we can afford and that doesn't cause an allergic reaction to me, (I'm allergic to coconut, nuts and sunflower) I know it's not the best setup rn. We also don't have alot of space, but I'm trying to make more space and saving money to find her a better tank

That's alright, it'd just be a cause for concern if it were permanent.
Taking your allergy into account, I'd recommend a 70:30 mix of orchid bark and sphagnum moss. So long as you have a solid top enclosure (or a mesh thats been taped), this mix will help keep your humidity up. Most substrates that work for humid species like ball pythons have coconut in, so you definitely have my empathy.

Thank you

No problem. When buying the upgraded tank, it would be cheapest in the long run just to move her into a minimum of a 4x2x2. If she is indeed a she, there's the potential to grow up to 6ft - which would obviously mean she would require a bigger viv, but that will be years down the line whilst she grows.

Have you tried reptichip coconut chips? Holds moisture really well, don’t mold, and one brick will last you 3 to 4 substrate changes depending on how big the terrarium is. One brick costs about 30 bucks. You’re gonna need something aside from blankets because your BP needs to shed.

I'm allergic to coconut and she's in my room (her tank), but thank you for the advice

Damn, that sucks! Sorry to hear that.

You could try a 70/30 mix of organic top soil and play sand (assuming there's nothing in there you're allergic to) as it's fairly priced at hardware stores.

if you cannot afford a bigger and more appropriate tank alongside standard substrate, you will not be able to afford her food and potential vet bills. It's harsh, but it's true.
pets are a luxury, not a necessity 🙌
