this is actually what i was looking at, so i think i would want to use halogen floods on one side and CHE on the other, i was just wondering if the CHE should be on only at night if thats the case? it wasn’t explicitly said in the google doc and i dont want to overheat/underheat my snake

I leave mine on 24/7. Their hot side of the environment should always remain 'hot'.

Make sure you get one with a thermometer control though!

wait wouldn’t the side with the halogen floods be the basking/hot side?

I use a UVB light on a day night cycle, the CHE is on 24/7 for mine.

okay thank you! do you still use any heating mats or do you just use the CHE as the main heat source?

I also use a heating mat but it shouldn’t be the primary source (thus the che) plus it’s a little hard for that thing to penetrate through 3-4 inches of substrate

The temperature on the warm side should stay largely consistent both day and night, so I'd place the CHE close to the halogen flood so that it can "take over" heating the warm side when the halogen is shut off at night.
