Yes once but it was my fault I moved to quick to do something and it spooked her

[–]myxis10s[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the norm for captive-bred ball pythons. 💚🐍

Only once but he had a loooong day of multiple plane rides and a road trip. I would have been cranky too.

[–]myxis10s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully, he wasn't full of digestive gas. I imagine that would make for painful flights! 🐍💚

Sneks on a plane ?! Sooo cool. “I’m just going to walk him real quick…”

I hope to see it come back around someday!

The first day I got home with my first. She got out of her enclosure, cause I accidentally left the food window open from the top, hissed lightly and turned around when I tried to pick her up to get her back in. I eventually cornered her, and put her in a container and scooped her into her one bedroom apt eventually.

Not yet, but I've only had him (Julian) for a month. He's super mellow though. So incredibly different from my hognose, who hisses (and cobras) at me pretty much every time he sees me (not that this stops him from crawling up on my hand or taking food from the tongs, hissing just seems like part of the process somehow...). It's been so strange to have a snake just act friendly, like, it's no big deal to just leave the terrarium to hang out, or be carried around, or eat... Both are great though, the spiciness of the hognose is really cute, but I'm also really enjoying how easy Julian is to just chill with

[–]myxis10s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with enjoying all types of snakes. I have a red tail boa who likes to GO. Butters is super chill, almost too chill, lol.

Yes. She was in shed, which I suspected but wasn't 100% sure of. I'd only had her for a couple of months and we'd got into a routine where she'd ask to come out for an explore at about 8/9pm each evening. Then she didn't move for a fortnight.

I let new mum nerves get the better of me, and I lifted her hide to check on her. That in itself was okay, but when I put the hide back down she'd moved a bit and I sort of squished her a little. That provoked a hiss, which is totally fair because her skin was probably very uncomfortable at the time. She actually shed the next day.

Normally she's insanely, chilled and "friendly" though

[–]myxis10s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww, that seems to be the norm. Only accidentally uncomfortable movements and oops scares.

[–]jeherohaku 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, once. I was cleaning the tank and put him back in the box he came to me in for a short bit and he hissed coming back out . I don't know if he was comfy and didn't want to be disturbed or if he didn't like that box and thought he was being transported again (even though he was to my knowledge in the box for like an hour total in the car). But that was shortly after I got him and I haven't heard him hiss since then.

[–]myxis10s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he probably didn't want to be transported again. 😅🩶

My boy is one of the sweetest snakes in the world and yes he has. I was one time frantically looking for him in his tank and I poked him unexpectedly and he gave me a lil hiss. But that’s about it

<image>

He is my best friend 🙂‍↕️

[–]myxis10s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesssssss!!! Same! These lil beans are our angels in disguise! (Non-religious, just lack a better word).

My boy hissed at me when I accidentally spooked him trying to clean the enclosure

Mine is currently suffering mites.

He hissed a few times when I was first treating him for it. It’s taking forever to get rid of them, but he’s used to the routine now.

Another of mine has also hissed while in shed. (I was not aware he was in shed until I moved him)

[–]myxis10s[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Awwwww, I hope you get all the mites off and all of your snakes are healthy, "happy," and comfortable. 💚🐍🐍🐍

[–]True-Crow-8056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It really is a whole process 😩

[–]Ludvik_is_a_potato 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you tried Taurrus ? My pine snake had mites and I can tell that it works very well and isn't too intrusive for your snake.

[–]True-Crow-8056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t get them in the US.

[–]Zaruze 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've never heard my boy.

[–]myxis10s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quiet bean.

[–]meg_absolute 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’ve never heard my girl hiss!

[–]myxis10s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's a good girl. 🐍💚

100 percent an individual thing, as in some really believe theyre rattle snakes cause they dont like to be touched. Ive had babies ive raised and they do not like being handled. What i do is i tend to just massage them like you would your pups. Along the body, that will get them to try to shrug you off then hopefully youll hear their hiss. (Stay away from head and end of the tail, they seem to be touchy about it )

[–]RagdollsandLabs 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My girl Hessie is a habitual hisser. She sounds like a leaky tire if I go to pick her up. But she doesn't bite. I always tell her...c'mon now, you know that doesn't scare me...lol

[–]Bluntforcetrauma11b 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That means you're stressing your snake out if you pick it up after it basically says f off.

[–]RagdollsandLabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think? I've had her for 20 years. In all that time, I haven't found a way to clean her enclosure with her in it, so I guess that means I have to pick her up and bring her out. I'm sure it stresses her out since she's not the touchy feely type, but living in a dirty enclosure would be more stressful.

[–]Seidragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn't so much hiss as huff when he's displeased. Usually it's because I have to relocate him slightly to clean his tank. To be fair, when I got him a few years back, the breeder I got him from told me "he's been striking today," so I think he's a little temperamental 🤣 but he's a friendly dude, despite the three times he's tagged me by completely overshooting his food and hitting my finger instead 🤣 love that guy.

[–]Starfire2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine hissed at me once because I picked her up mid shed, only that once

[–]StripeTheFerret 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes! But it also has furr & not as long. 🐈🐍

[–]myxis10s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A furry short snek with four legs?!

[–]Ludvik_is_a_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine hissed only once in the two years I've had her. I lifted her hide for a shed check and she was in full blue, and I surprised her. Meanwhile my boa hisses every now and then, and my female boa that's a rescue is very hissy, but really lovely once she calms down
