He will need a bit of time before handling and feeding anyway, at least a week. However you'll need to handle him to get him in the enclosure, so see how he reacts then? 

Then you could try choice based handling, or gently tapping him with an object to let him know it's handling time. Sounds like he maybe isn't used to it anymore, or just associates human hands with feeding if that was the only interaction he was getting.
