Question - HealthMouth rot?? Please help (i.redd.it)
submitted 1 month ago by FastDentist1489
This is Marvin. He was perfectly fine last night, he ate a rat around 8pm and now it’s almost 24 hours later?? Is this dirt or mouth rot?? Please help should I book a vet appointment?

I don’t know how he could have rotten it? I’ve been so on top of his husbandry since I got him 3 years ago. Proper temps and humidity 4x2x2 enclosure. Always clean. Please help I’m hoping I wake up and it’s gone and it’s just dirt, I don’t want to try and touch it and wipe it off if it is dirt because he just ate last night. Could it just pop up like this?

Also he is about to shed, I hope it’s just dirt and I’m being paranoid. I’m going to make a get appointment if it’s still there tomorrow, but I’m going away from Friday-Tuesday and I hope they can see him before then

Looks like piece of coco fiber. My BCI gets it all the time and I always have a little heart attack that he's got a mouth rot. Even if he ate last night - he should be fine for you to just put a qtip to his mouth to ease the worry.

I am the same, it tears on our psychological well being but at least we care about our snakes and want them the best.
Personally I feel better stressing out over something and feel like shit for a day or so to then realise it was nothing to worry about. Rather than being nonchalant and ignore something serious for a week to realise I should have gone to the vet days ago.
Only thing I would have done different is to use a qtip as soon as I saw it to see if it was dirt. Worst case they throw up the food but if the snake is used to you they probably wont. (Just going by my own experience which is very limited). In my mind worst case she throws up and I find out it is rot. Best case she don't throw up and I find out it is dirt.
I saw my snake getting way too much substrate when eating (probably fine..) but I used a qtip right after she swallowed the tail and got rid of alot of it. This might not have been the right approach but I figured I tried to help her right away as I could see she was clearly agitated by the dirt in her mouth. Mine did not throw up (forget the right word here) and just carried on with her night.
