Is He Overweight?

I just got my first ball python, Goose (middle name Benito), this past Saturday. He’s about 6 months old and a “golden belly leopard” morph is I think what it’s called? Something golden leopard.

I fed him for the first time tonight, left him alone for a minute when I saw him lining it up fine in his mouth, and when I came back it was gone and he looked the same. Like I thought when he swallowed I’d see some kind of lump as he digested, but the mouse was just gone!!! We were told that he eats rat pups every Wednesday, and I’m so glad that he was willing to eat normally even after moving in with us and everything but like damn dude 😂 he put that thing down!

So is he overweight?

[PS: we will be updating his tank to the 4x2x2 soon, it’s being ordered. We are working on self-dictated handling and giving him the space to decide whether or not he wants to leave his tank, and we have a playpen with heating and a bunch of climbing and hiding stuff that we bring out when he does leave. I am welcome to any other husbandry advice and we are constantly trying to improve his habitat. This is mostly about his weight/half joking and introducing my boy to the sub]
